"Come On Over" for Jessica Simpson's Country Video
Pay attention in that first scene of this video, where she's holding the cell phone up to her ear, because that way the ending will make a lot more sense. In the meantime, you can enjoy Jessica lounging on the kitchen counter, dangling her feet on the bed of a truck and perching herself (with no pants) atop a bathtub. That's good stuff, but does the video have any legs? Oh, I think I can count on a few guys watching it over and over and over.
Also, for all you people who say she's nothing but a pop singer, take note: She's in a barn for most of the video, so she must be country, right? See what you think.

bobby_25_el paso says:
truck’s license plate is CALIFORNIA. need i say more?
bobby_25_el paso says:
aaaahhh— it has been changed so you cannot see the license plate from California anymore
- what a pop tart
Anxiously waiting . . . says:
Gee what a surprise that she would have to resort to something with major sex appeal to distract from the fact that she is talentless and has no business in country music. This crap may be fine for guys to oogle for free on a website, but how many men will acutally BUY her album? That just leaves us girls, and well, everyone knows us country girls require a little more substance in our music, therefore I don’t believe any of us will be rushing out to spend our dollars on her album. Let’s see . . . a tank of gas or Jessica’s album? Screw her, I need to get to work everyday!
KISSIT says:
Hey DOLLYFAN—Did you know that Dolly worked hand and hand with Jessica on this album and came up with the title for her? Bet ya didnt know your idol LOVES Jessica and has total faith in her
Kimmy says:
I Love the video and think she looks gorgeous. I love her WR jeans. She sings and looks adorable. You should all stop baggin….she’s here to stay. She has a HUGE fan base from pop that will help her through it.You can count on that! We dont need you sorry, unwelcoming Washed up country fans to support her. BLAH!
C_J_J says:
Cant wait to hear the album
SJB says:
And “Kimmy” you are how old? When you reach 30 and have gained some self esteem to where you don’t have to put all your self worth into dumb TV twits, call us. Then maybe YOU will be here to stay.
David Nisbet, Scotland says:
Jessica’s showing some so-called Country singers what real Country is - and the haters hate her for her it :-D
Kimmy says:
You all cant stand confidence, can ya? Sorry to hear that. must be So awful to live in your pittiful, boring, grumpy world. I will say an extra prayer for you tonight.hehe
hotelmotel says:
Basically, this song and video exist so Jessica can act sexy. But that’s true of a lot of country videos, so its not really fair to single Jessica out on this.
The problem isn’t that Jessica Simpson wants to cross over; the problem is that in both pop music and the world of CMT, sex sells more than musical merits.
Some people seem to think Jessica isn’t a country singer or she doesn’t know what country is. But I think Jessica fits right in with Top 40 country radio and CMT videos. She does this stuff just as well as the others on CMT or radio because what matters is not music but acting sexy, and Jessica knows how to do that.
This is a sad state of affairs, as those looking for high quality music have to look somewhere other than CMT or mainstream radio.
I should say I like attractive women as much as anyone else. I’m not opposed to sex appeal in music, per se. But what I do lament is when the music is 90% about sex and 10% about good songwriting, musicianship, and vocals.
sally says:
I saw a video of Victoria Banks singing “Come on Over” while playing the acoustic guitar and even though it wasn’t studio quality, it sounded much better than Simpson’s version. Another plus (for those who watch music videos for the music) is that Victoria Banks keeps her pants on through the whole song!
Kerry says:
I heard a sound byte of Jessica saying that on all her songs you will never hear her sing something she hasn’t lived because that wouldn’t be believable. As if her real life just has so much substance and depth. What, are you going to sing next about how you went shopping and just couldn’t decide between the Hemes bag or the Louis Vuitton so were forced to buy both? What have you been through in your life? I’ve heard people also compare Jessica with Shania Twain (maybe just because they used the same song title?). But let me tell you the difference between the two: Shania has faced real, honest to God hardship in her life. Her parents died when she was young and pretty much raised her younger siblings. She was able to be hot and sexy AND sell records because she appealed to both men AND women. Her first songs she put out may have appealed to men visually in her videos, but they very much spoke to women in the song (Whose Bed . . ., Any Man of Mine). You really could feel for her, and the difficulties in her life she conquered on the road to success made you really respect her. And that is my $5.00 worth.
nan says:
There is a scene in the movie, “Forrest Gump”, where Jenny, who so desperately wants to be a famous and respected singer, can only get a job performing on stage if she is naked and in a strip club.
Remind you of anybody…
Yeah Kerry . . . says:
You also left out how distressing it must have been for her to decide just how short those shorts needed to be in the Dukes of Hazzard movie. Oh the humanity!
Yeah, Shania’s Dad wasn’t around to help her in her successes. She truly lived a country song. Jessica, was your Daddy on set the whole time telling you how much clothing to take off in order to make this video a hit so he can keep paying the bills? Ick.
WHA? says:
ok…first, it HERMES, second, her shorts HAD to be short in Dukes because of the role (are you a card short of the full deck?) and third, WHY oh WHY does someone have to have been through Trama just to sing about thier life? has anyone ever listened to any of her other music? When she was going through her divorce, she sang about that hardship, when her marriage was great, she sang about that, and when she was finding herself and becomming comfortable with being a woman, she sang about that. Also, I LOVE that you brought up Shania Twain, because, girl can sing, she’s fabulous, but uh,if I recall, there were PLENTY of videos where she was hardly dressed, so can you all find something else to jabber about other than her choice of attire? Get real!
Stephanie from Waco, Texas says:
Oh my….I cannot wait to buy the CD in September. What a great song/video. I am a truly a Simpson fan. I have nearly all of her CD’s along with her sister and this one so far tops them all. Well I really like the Christmas CD from 2-3 years ago but for the country category…this was seems awesome. Thanks Jessica for going country. Definately your style.
Kerry says:
OK, first, yes it is Hermes. It’s also trauma, not Trama. Oh, and newsflash genius, you don’t capitalize a word in the middle of a sentence. Spelling lessons from Jessica herself?
I also said that Shania WAS indeed hot and sexy (Comprehension 101). No doubt about that. BUT there is a major difference in her being believable and having some credibility in this genre. And no I’ve never listened to any of her other music and have no desire to. I prefer my dinner to stay down.
Next Queen of Country? says:
The video doesn’t work. I saw part of it on another site. Every time I hear the song it just reminds me of why I hate pop, love country music, and hate where country music is going. Might as well re-name the genre pop now. I actually used to listen to some pop and Jessica’s music is one reason why I stopped. This is just a shallow booty call pop song with country music thrown in so they can call it country. All we need is to dumb-down country music with mindless pop-lite lyrics. I’m glad Jessica hasn’t really gone country, and no wonder fans of her pop music like this song. I don’t get why she’s suddenly the next country queen, since all of the other ladies on the country chart are better.
Next Queen of Country? says:
Kimmy says:
You should all stop baggin….she’s here to stay. She has a HUGE fan base from pop that will help her through it.You can count on that!
Like she was here to stay in pop? Her last pop album only sold 299,000 copies and they paid radio to play her. Not really a huge or a real fan base.
Next Queen of Country? says:
The video is working now. It’s better than the song, good for her because she needs the promotion. This is officially the first song in a new sub-genre called country-lite. On EXTRA she said she spent just 3 weeks writing the album.
hey WHA says:
The point some of the other posters were making when commenting on her choice of attire was that since Jessica doesn’t have a great voice or credibility, the video had to focus on something else. Shania is credible and talented, so there are reasons to watch her videos other than what she is or isn’t wearing.
David Nisbet, Scotland says:
Next Queen - “just 3 weeks writing the album”. May I remind you that Hank Williams once said “If a song can’t be written in 20 minutes, it ain’t worth writing.”
texasgaltoo says:
I know Jessica Simpson has a writing credit on that song, but I wonder what that might mean. Does she play an instrument? Read or write music? If not, she could not have had anything to do with the music.
And while the lyrics are hardly profound, I have a hard time believing she would be capable of having any real input in that area either.
I’m sure the other two writers credited did all the heavy lifting. Maybe Jessica came up with the “concept” for the song (”I want the song to be about love”), but I suspect Jessica “writes” songs the same way she “designs” fashion. She just puts her name on other people’s work.
SJB says:
Texas Gal Too, I hold that same theory on the whole writing credit thing. That instance is very prominent in the pop world. Often an entertainer will agree to pick up a writer’s song and hopefully turn it into a hit in exchange for some writing credits, which in turn gives the performer a little more substance (and JS needs all the substance she can get). Sometimes it’s something as simple as changing a word from present to past tense or whatever. Now I have no clue if that is the case here, but your comment definitely holds some validity which I’m backing up.
Next Queen of Country? says:
David Nisbet, Scotland says: May I remind you that Hank Williams once said “If a song can’t be written in 20 minutes, it ain’t worth writing.”
That’s because Hank was a real country artist, not just a star or superstar but an ICON of country, and a great writer - one of the most influential musicians and songwriters of the 20th century. His songbook is one of the backbones of country music. When Hank died in his car the only items found in the backseat were a few cans of beer and the hand-written lyrics to an unrecorded song - the mark of true writer. Great writers can write great songs quickly. Not exactly the same thing here and if Hank heard Come on Over he’s probably rollin’ on over in his grave. Like texasgaltoo said, Jessica probably co-wrote some of the lyrics and professional songwriters did the rest. Nothing wrong with that if you like the lyrics. I don’t because they are shallow, average, booty call, and fit pop more than country. Other girls on the chart are better country songwriters and singers.
Next Queen of Country? says:
The 9513 says: I hear that if you keep your eyes peeled you might catch a glimpse of the bottle for her new perfume, Fancy.
I noticed that bottle the first time I saw the video and thought it’s an ad for her own. She also named it the same as Reba’s famous song. So she’s using country music to sell her perfume. How convenient. I’m surprised CMT allowed the product to be shown in the video. I thought CMT, MTV, and VH1 have a policy against product placement in videos. Maybe they blurred the name out. Why didn’t she name her perfume after her own song, Come on Over? Nevermind, she also named Come on Over the same as a Shania song. Does she do anything original? I guess it’s all part of her country image buildup. She’s not real country so marketers are making her image country. Fake it til you make it.
DTR says:
Oh please. I’m not a fan of Jessica Simpson by any means, but this song is good. If it wasn’t Jessica Simpson singing it, most of you would like it.
It is certainly more country that many things CMT has played lately (Tim McGraw + Def Leppard; Snoop Dog + Willie Nelson).
All personal issues aside, I would say that Jessica Simpson is more “country” than many new artists on CMT…say Julianne Hough for example. I would argue that “Come on Over” is more country that “Song in my Head All Day.”
Vicki says:
BTW, she wanted Tony to be in the video. But he’s not there, notice no face so you can just assume he’s there? I think Tony is still dating her but doesn’t want to get to serious yet.
texasgaltoo says:
DTR…what’s wrong with not liking the song because it’s Jessica Simpson singing it? Part of a song is the voice singing it and if listeners don’t like that, it will influence how they respond. If all that mattered was the quality of the song, people would buy concert tickets and cd’s based only on song titles, not the artist performing…and that’s not how it works.
Think of all the remakes of songs over the years. The voice singing can make the exact same song very different.
SJB says:
I think the problem is that Jessica comes with too much Hollywood drama and baggage and general country fans just don’t deal well with that. Most of us take refuge in the fact that our beloved genre of music has NOT been tainted with all that crap. Also, we tend to require more from the performers than just a pretty face. Most of our performers just really do seem like someone who could live next door to us, sit next to us at our jobs, or just go sit in a bar with and have a drink. Also, the fact that she has tried so many different avenues and with each one she swears that that is truly where she feels she fits. And she feels she fits there until it’s proven that she has not succeeded and cannot keep paying the bills for her Daddy, so she moves somewhere else. The majority of country music fans just don’t buy into that.
hotelmotel says:
Perhaps “most of our performers just really do seem like someone who could live next door to us, sit next to us at our jobs…” but if they seem this way, its largely because of public relations and marketing efforts. The labels spend small fortunes trying to convince record buyers that country artists are “genuine” and “sincere” and “authentic” and the public falls for it hook, line and sinker.
It is remarkable how public relations campaigns can convince otherwise intelligent people that their favorite singer really is their “friend” because that singer agreed to shake their hand and make some mindless conversation if they pay a small fee to join a fan club.
No doubt most country stars would be “regular people” were they not country stars. But the same applies to Hollywood stars, too.
And as for the idea that there is a kind of “Hollywood drama” that doesn’t exist in country music, that seems to be incorrect. A quick glance at this website would disprove that claim.
DTR says:
I have to agree. Did Kenny Chesney ever really work “Shift work” like he claims in the song? If he did, I bet it wasn’t long. But the average Joe can identify with that…and if they think he did too…. well then they can sit down and have a beer together.
In reality, Kenny is sitting on some beach in Mexico drinking a Corona while the average listner is working in a plant somewhere……
Alice says:
I think Nashville should run Jessica Simpson out of town. She is a fake and hopefully the music makers and fans will realize this. She couldn’t make it in Hollywood so she trying to get our money now. I can tell you one thing she won’t be getting mine. All she has are boobs and a perverted father.
TexasGuy says:
I think DTR’s original statement was that “If it wasn’t Jessica Simpson singing it, most of you would like it.”
That may or may not be true, but if Jessica Simpson were not singing it, it would be a different song.
Would you want to hear Jessica Simpson record her own version of “Crazy?” Or “He Stopped Loving Her Today?” No? Why not? They’re great songs, aren’t they?
I saw a clip on YouTube of somebody else singing “Come On Over” and it sounded much better than Simpson’s version (although I still didn’t much care for it.) I don’t care about her looks or her background or her “Hollywood baggage.” I don’t like her singing voice.
SJB says:
What the Hell are you talking about? You think KC just had his Daddy pimping him all around town until he found a niche? He busts his ass everyday and has for the past 20 years to make it in this business and to stay afloat. He kept on keeping on in the early years in spite of what everyone in Nashville originally said. He didn’t just have his Daddy shop him around util he hit the jackpot! Give credit where credit is due.
texasgaltoo says:
Amen SJB!!
DTR says:
SJB-
I’m not saying that at all. I am agreeing with the previous post that said marketing companies are trying hard to make it seem like the average country star relates to Average Joe’s problems. (Kenny Chesney was just an example that came to mind quickly - I have no idea what his background is…)
How many of today’s country stars are *really* from the country? I’m not defending Jessica Simpson (by no means) but just country stars in general today. That’s all.
Amirpardon says:
Who says Jessica Simpson’s father got her into country Music? Is this all speculation, and you all are turning it into your own reality? Where does it say that HE found her the country singing career?
TXGALL says:
You all talk about jess’ Holywood Drama and baggage…what exactly is Her baggage? A divorce? Thats all I know of. Anyone want to elaborate on all the “drama” this girl has? I see she has had a failed marriage…so has Sara Evans, Kenny Chesney, and do we want to bring up any cheating in country…on name comes to mind….Garth Brooks….OH, and scandal?? Dixie Chicks, Toby Keith, Ect, ect. Lets not throw stones, when they are all plastered all over the front of this website!
TexasGuy says:
Amirpardon, I guess it’s true that we are assuming a few things about her father getting her into country - but he IS her manager. Is it that much of a stretch to think he finds her gigs for her?
OTOH, given that her father has commented on her boobs in published interviews, we can all agree with Alice that he is a pervert without any speculation.
TXGALL says:
Because her father said something about covering them up (or them being big)..that’s the obvious! So now he must want to touch them or something? You all are the ones with the sick minds.
TXGALL says:
Oh, and BTW, there are people who decide what they want, and thier manager happens to help them follow the path they want to go. Do we know if this was HIS idea?? NO…it was hers, and he (as her manager) helped her get there….THAT IS HIS JOB, AS IS ANY OTHER MGR!!
TexasGuy says:
TXGALL said “Because her father said something about covering them up (or them being big)..that’s the obvious! So now he must want to touch them or something? You all are the ones with the sick minds.”
Uh…okay… Here is what he said:
““Jessica never tries to be sexy. … She just is sexy. If you put her in a T-shirt or you put her in a bustier, she’s sexy in both. She’s got double D’s! You can’t cover those suckers up!”
Perverted? Natural an “obvious” way to talk about your own daughter?
I report, you decide.
TXGALL says:
well….sorry, but I dont think in any way that is perverted, its just stating the obvious.
DTR says:
No, it’s weird.
Anyway, again, that’s the father not the daughter.
I have no problem with this song. It’s much better than some of the crap CMT has been playing lately….Kid Rock (need I say more?) and what’s with some of this stuff that comes off as rap? Some big dude in overalls rapping in front of a trailer?
SJB says:
He does refer to them as “suckers.” Fathers should never refer to their daughters as sexy or their breasts as suckers. There’s just no way to make that sound right.
hotelmotel says:
I don’t care much for Jessica Simpson or her music (or her “I’m dumb” routine,) but comments like “Nashville should run Jessica Simpson out of town,” and the like make me feel a bit of sympathy toward her.
At the end of the day, I think she’s a mediocre singer and her song “Come On Over” is pretty weak. But I don’t think she’s done anything to deserve this kind of hostility.
She’s accused of being “fake,” but she’s probably no more “fake” than other singers. And while she isn’t a great performer, neither are many others who aren’t being “run out of town.”
I have no problem with people giving harsh critiques of her music; and if Simpson behaves in an immoral or outrageous way, I have no problem with people calling her out on it. But I just can’t see what she has done to deserve this sort of vitriol.
jessic-HUH? says:
The song is weak. However, the 1st time I heard I kinda liked it because I, sorry, was expecting it to be really terrible. But now the more I hear it, the more it turns me off and I WILL NOT BUY IT.
Wonder how she sounds live?
ErninM says:
I saw her live on her last tour. I was really close to the front. She sounds great…even better. I see though she has gotten stage fright scince her public divorce. she needs to gain back her confidence. I think she really lost all that when she was off stage for so long. Good luck to her.
LOOK@THIS says:
Suffice to say there was healthy skepticism at country radio and on Nashville’s Music Row when word began circulating last year that Jessica Simpson was recording a country album, due later this year via Columbia Nashville.
But at least by early indications, Simpson is on her way to swaying opinion in her favor. As reported yesterday, her first single, “Come on Over,” makes a historic debut at No. 41 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart this week.
A flirtatious, uptempo song, it was co-written by Simpson with Rachel Proctor and Victoria Banks. “The fun thing about the song is that anxiety of wanting the guy to come over right then and there,” Simpson tells Billboard. “Everybody’s felt that before.”
Columbia Nashville VP of promotion Jimmy Rector says radio is responding positively to the single. “More than anything, people are pleasantly surprised. A lot of people didn’t want to like it, but when they heard it, regardless of pre-conceived notions, they realized this is a really good record.”
One unnamed programmer went as far as to tell Rector, “‘God help me, I really like this song.’ That’s the reality of what we were facing,” Rector says.
Comments like that surprised Simpson, who remembers thinking, “Oh, my gosh, people want to hate me,” when first told of radio’s feedback. “That’s kind of hard to grasp, but at least they’re supporting it. At least they know good music and they play good music. I can’t believe the single’s doing what it’s doing.”
For her part, Simpson says the process of recording and releasing a country album is exciting. “I feel like a brand-new artist,” she says. “It’s a great feeling.”
And early skepticism aside, Simpson feels like she’s found a home. “I did a lot in the pop world and I had a great time doing it, but this just feels so much easier,” she says. “There’s a lot of soul in country and while I was making this album I discovered that. I can’t imagine myself anywhere else, to be honest with you.
“I look in the mirror and I know I’m doing the right thing with my career and my life,” she adds. “It’s a great place of comfort.”
**Yes, I realize that this was a month ago, but what you all dont see is that people are giving her a chance and they are happy for her to get a chance. You all need to just simmer down. Sounds like she’s doing just fine with out the extra fan base. She brought plenty of pop fans with her, and you have to give her credit for putting herself out there and taking a chance.
DallasNative4EVER says:
No, people dont want to hate her. But she does appear very Desperate.
I think it is more along the line of a last resort and that just leaves a bad taste in the mouths of true country fans.
She really did not have a huge base in pop either, since her last album in pop did not fare well at all.
Us country fans are true to those who are true to us.
Ididlook@this says:
From the Look@This post: “Columbia Nashville VP of promotion Jimmy Rector says radio is responding positively to the single.”
Big deal. The VP of promotion for her record label said something positive about her song. As VP of PROMOTION, it’s his job to promote the album. Of course he is going to put a positive spin on Columbia’s product.
“her first single, “Come on Over,” makes a historic debut at No. 41 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart this week.”
I could be wrong, but isn’t this the chart for how much radio airtime a song gets? And don’t record companies frequently purchase airtime for records they are hoping to sell? This could just mean Columbia purchased a record amount of time for her. The chart for sales will be more meaningful.
“Sounds like she’s doing just fine with out the extra fan base. She brought plenty of pop fans with her”
You mean the 299,000 fans that bought her last album? I’m not in the music business, but it sounds like she might need the extra fan base afterall.
cb says:
I agree with DallasNative. She looks pathetic, and country music seems to be her last hope.
hotelmotel says:
Lets say country music is Simpson’s last hope, and yes like cb and DallasNative say, “she looks pathetic.”
How does country music being Simpson’s last hope differentiate her from all the other country singers on the charts who, were it not for mainstream radio and Nashville labels, would either be eking out a living as an unknown musician or perhaps be working in a more typical job?
Country music may be Simpson’s only remaining chance at continued fame or a music career. But the same could be said about many Top 40 country artists. So aren’t they just as “pathetic” as Simpson?
Could it be that Simpson is recording music she doesn’t really believe in just because she thinks it might be a hit? Its pretty likely. But the same could be said of many Top 40 country artists.
People are calling Simpson “pathetic” for trying her hand in country when her pop career has stalled. But perhaps this isn’t pathetic, but admirable. Perhaps we could say, “Here is someone who loves making music, who loves being a celebrity, and who isn’t going to give up when opportunities in one form of music evaporate. Instead, she’s going to give something new a try so she can continue doing what she loves.” Shouldn’t we celebrate that kind of determination instead of mocking it? After all, Simpson is wealthy enough she could just stop working and live a relaxing life of leisure if she wanted.
If Simpson is “pathetic” for going country when her pop career began to fizzle, perhaps Reba is “pathetic” for going on Broadway, and then taking a role in a sitcom when her career at country radio started to fizzle a bit in the very late 1990s and early 2000s.
Of course I don’t think Reba was pathetic for trying to keep her career alive by trying new projects (it worked and even resulted in a rebirth of her country career). And I don’t think Jessica Simpson is “pathetic” for putting out a country record or trying to keep things going. I don’t like “Come on Over” but I see nothing pathetic about her trying to sing country.
I agree with Ididlook@this - Jimmy Rector is a hype man. Exactly how is a debut at 41 on Billboard “historic?” This is pure promotions talk.
I don’t care for Jessica Simpson or her music but I see no reason to call her all sorts of names for the simple crime of releasing a country music album.
savannah says:
Listen, She is NOT!!!!! counrty. Her album last album flopped and she has nowhere else to turn in order to sing. Do I hate her, no, do I like her somg? i guess. Will I buy her album? Hell No!! The only thing she knows how to do right now is try to make carrie underwood mad. The girl has nothing on carrie. News Flash - She was not a Huge pop star. She was always in brittney and christinas shadow and will say in carrie and tayler’s here. And just because she played Dasy Duke does not make her country.. Go back to pop and tony needs to go back to carrie!!! Go Cowboys
HeyCarrieFans! says:
You should all head over to the blog about the paparazzi taking pics of Carrie on the beach. LOL. This CMT board is all about just plain rude, angry people! I have noticed that whoever the article is about, people enjoy being rude. WTH??
You Carrie fans might want to stick to your blogs about her and fight her battles instead. Leave everyone else alone!
WHA? says:
Savannah says
“The only thing she knows how to do right now is try to make carrie underwood mad.”
I dont see anywhere that Carrie actually got MAD or even responded to the shirt, and ONCE AGAIN, I must say, the shirt is just That…a shirt. You all made it out to be a big ordeal, noone else. Most people didnt even know Carrie was a vegiterian anyways…..
DTR says:
Can somebody please explain this Carrie vs. Jessica idea? Where did that come from? As WHA? stated… I don’t even think this is an issue.
Also, why has Taylor become this alpha-female in country? She’s had a few hit songs, but that doesn’t mean she’s got staying power. She may/may not be around 2 years from now. And from what I’ve gathered, Taylor has a bit of an attitude about her…
savannah says:
SHe is wearing that damn shist to piss her off, I did not say that carrie has stooped low to respond. Jess has even admitted that was the reason that she wore the shirt. I did not say taylor was an alpha female, but right now those two are the ottest two females. I dont hate, but I think it is crazy if people can not see it for what it is. Her career is over in pop and when she made that remix of theses boots… and she won a teen choice award(WOW!!!) and then put her line of cowboy boots. she thought hey this is easy, I can make it in this business. If she has always been country, when she came out as a pop start, she was young and could have went the country route, but she is pop and that is were she WANTED to be a star, NOT COUNTRY. WHat makes people so mad, is that they think all she has to say is I am from texas, were cowboyboots and make a video in a barn and we all will be dumb enough to say hey well she really is country, Look at her. Is is not a huge pop star and when people interview her I wish that would stop saying that. I heard her on after midnight and all she has waon really are teen choice and mtv awards. Stop saying she is a huge pop star. She love the media attention and will do anything to get it.
WHA? says:
Can you please leave me a website where jessica said or admitted as you say that she wore it to make Carrie mad….PLEASE??
You are immature!
WHA? says:
OH! and I dont recall her EVER saying she WAS country, she wants to sing country is what I heard her say.She made the line of shoes WAY BEFORE she ever chose to sing country, and I dont think she ever said that being in Dukes made her country…SO, before YOU speak, get YOUR facts straight, and PLEASE dont act like you know ANYTHING about Jessica Simpson, because you dont.
savannah says:
Imature is name calling, When she wore that shirt pita was up in arms and had made a big stink on their web page, her pub came out and made a statement that she ment nothung behind the shirt regarding animals, but she wore it just to make her biyfriends ex mad. With a statement to follow that she is jealouse because she can eat meat and still look that good.
no hating going on, just responding to her actions and if I can not do that she should not be in the public eye. Dont be so blind and look at it fo what it is. She wants the media because in the pop world media(good or bad) sell records. She wears that damn shhirt all the time, why because it got such an uproar, She is the one imature and I guess you are one of the people that got fooled by her publicist. Say what you want, but all she wants is the media!!! What other counrty singer do you see that loves the medis, jess whole self worth is measured on how many people are taking her picture!!!!

Obviously NONE of you have ever been to Hollywood, because if you have, you would know that there are paparazzi EVERYWHERE! She doesnt seek the frickin paps….they are ALL over everyone like flies on #$@%! Every corner…every club. I SEE IT all the time. Its pathetic. There are pics all over websites like TMZ and X17online that have photos of everyone…even ya’lls dear Carrie that you all worship. She could live anywhere and they would follow because (sorry to burst your bubble) but she is who sells. People love her, she’s genuine, and sweet, and pretty. Her pics sell and make mad money.
Also, I have seen Jessica wear the shirt 1 time, and it was like 2 days after she got back from New York, and the Steakhouse that is her fav and she visits everytime she is in NY, gave her the shirt…SO, again, I see NOWHERE that Jess’ rep ever said anything about jessica admitting that about the shirt. And its PETA. I even checked thier website, and nothing comes up. You are probly one of those people who believes what the national enquirer wrote! UGH!

A person can never know what motivates another person. I don’t know if Simpson’s numerous attempts at show biz are a sign of determination or a sign that her only guiding force is the quest for fame.
Maybe she is a sincere lover of acting and all forms of music, and doesn’t deserve to be mocked. Then again, she could just as easily be somebody who is willing to do anything to be famous… and she certainly doesn’t deserve to be “celebrated” for that.
Since I don’t know which it is, though I have my suspicions, I won’t be celebrating her any time soon.

by the way the peta website did have it on there, back when it happened. It was marked as 10 dumb things ….something jessica simpson. SO get your story right. That is why it came out. And she just wore it again not to many days ago. There is no need to write with such anger, i really did not believe that someone could big that big of fan of hers. Hey but more power to you. If you choose to listen to someone who sounds like that, hey everyone has there own opinion of music. And to just calm you down, just try and check the archives of the peta web page cause it was on there and no i did not get that from the enquirer. Why do you think it got so much attention, because peta was pissed!!!! yea the pap is all over, but you have some of those celbs that ate their inpotance on how many are there for them and what mag they are in. You can tell the ones that love the attention and the ones who hate it at times. News flash, Jess loves it all the time… she has to because once they stop with her she has nothing left.Except the fools that get her “country” album!!!

ok, so maybe you are right about PETA having it on thier pages a while ago, BUT if you do a search on it NOW, it says NOTHING about Carrie and Jessica, it states that some idiot was casually saying she must have been trying to make Carrie mad, but it never said Jessica said it. Yes, PETA was all over it, and I could care less. They chose to single her out because of a tshirt, and what about all the thousands of other A listers who eat meat. PETA actually sounded kinda lame in thier outburst. More than half the universe eats meat. And dont you worry, Im not all upset….it takes more than in insecure computer poster to get me upset, Im jusat stating facts, and it drives me crazy when people spurt out thier pie holes with out even knowing what they are talking about. STILL…I see NO article anywhere that says Jessica Admitted to that comment. There ya have it…..

So bottom line is can Jessica Simpson sing and is everyone excited to hear her in Wisconsin?
TexasGuy says:
hotelmotel, I understand your point, but I have to take issue with using Reba as an example. Even her last three “pre-sitcom” albums went platinum or multi-platinum and she had 7 or 8 top 20 singles from them. I guess you could argue that by Reba’s standards that’s “fizzling,” but by normal human standards, she was still quite successful. But neither Broadway nor her early 2000s sitcom were her first acting roles. She started acting in the early 1990s, and continued acting throughout that decade. The full-time foray into television was a pretty natural progression in her secondary career that she had gradually gotten into throughout a decade when she also recorded some of her biggest hits.
Back to this thread’s topic… I’ve never heard a Jessica Simpson pop song, and couldn’t name one. I know she had a reality show a while back, and that is the only reason I ever heard of her.
It’s easy to blame the entertainment press for distorting one’s image, as some of her booster’s here seem to be doing, but people mostly earn their reputations, for better or for worse, by their own actions and decisions.
I suspect if another reality television star from Survivor or the Donald Trump show tried to break into country music, they would be treated with some skepticism, too. And if that reality star were also a tabloid favorite like Paris Hilton, she would be treated with some extra disdain. That’s because by doing “reality” TV, you sort of forfeit the benefit of the doubt.
I’m not sure where on that spectrum Jessica Simpson fits in, but from my casual seat on the sidelines of pop culture, reality TV, not pop music, is the corner of the entertainment world she is coming from, and reactions to her among country fans seem pretty predictable…and very understandable.
Having said all that, I’ve “given her a chance.” I listened to this song, and I didn’t like it. I just don’t think she’s a very good singer.

“Oh please. I’m not a fan of Jessica Simpson by any means, but this song is good. If it wasn’t Jessica Simpson singing it, most of you would like it.”
Yes because at least the singing would be better.
“It is certainly more country that many things CMT has played lately (Tim McGraw + Def Leppard; Snoop Dog + Willie Nelson).”
That ain’t sayin’ much and it stinks that they play Snoop too. Someone in country music said the people at CMT have lost their minds playing the Snoop stuff and I don’t know anyone who wants to see it. There’s a reason why we have different genres and I’d like to keep it that way. At least we don’t hear Snoop on country radio though, unlike Jessica’s song that’s played every day.
“All personal issues aside, I would say that Jessica Simpson is more “country” than many new artists on CMT…say Julianne Hough for example. I would argue that “Come on Over” is more country that “Song in my Head All Day.””
Julianne’s song is better, she’s a better singer and sounds more country. Every time I hear Come on Over I want Julianne to come over and get that song out of my head. LOL
Next Queen of Country? says:
hotelmotel says: “Country music may be Simpson’s only remaining chance at continued fame or a music career. But the same could be said about many Top 40 country artists. So aren’t they just as “pathetic” as Simpson?”
Hell no! ALL of the other girls on the chart are better and that’s why Jessica’s song should not be getting played more than their songs! She’s making a big bang into country music with her big name and promotion.

I don’t know why but here are my guesses:
A. She chose it because she’s trying to channel Shania, a true country/pop crossover queen who is waaaaaaaaay better than Jessica.
B. She chose it because she wants her pop fans to “come on over” to her “country” music.
C. Both.
I’m guessing C and it’s all part of her country image building.

You are probably right, however there is disdain for Paris in pop music because her album flat out sucks and she’s a terrible singer, well below average. She started her own label so maybe she couldn’t even get a record deal. I hope there’s no way in hell she can go country. What a joke that would be.

Would you care to provide some substantial input on the topic or just keep googling song titles all day?

Dont get so defensive next time. Really what did you expect?
S.Johnson says:
“Come on Over” was co-written by country music singer-songwriter Rachel Proctor, Victoria Banks, and Simpson herself. The single speaks of the narrator’s paramore, who does not need to impress her with his appearance, and who is asked repeatedly to “come on over”.
Food for though says:
Good Lord, my only speculation was just as to why there might be such a parallel (IF ANY, I DON’T KNOW IF THERE IS ONE) with two country singers with bombshell appearances. I’m sure the powers that be were well aware that Shania had a catchy tune with that same title. Was that on purpose, was it an after-thought? Just trying to understand the psychology and/or marketing behind it because I thought it struck me as interesting that everytime I, myself, heard the phrase “Come On Over” inevitably Shania’s song (from several years ago to boot) would always get stuck on my mind as opposed to Jessica’s. Has that occurred with anyone else? If so, I’m sure the marketing machine behind Jessica’s song would be interested to know that. Maybe I’m the only one it does that to. ???????
KLO says:
Cristina Aguilera has a song called Come on over too!
DTR says:
I’m detecting some jealousy or something here from some of you….
As I said, not a fan of J. Simpson, but I do like this song and I do think it is much better than a lof of other songs getting played right now.
And Julianne Hough wants to be a star soooo badly (and I’m sorry, but her song isn’t that great). You could tell when she was on Dancing with the Stars and doing cameos on Entertainment Tonight. I’ve never seen anybody ham it up to the camera so blatantly. You could argue that she “couldn’t make it as a dancer so she tried country.” These arguements don’t hold water.
TexasGuy says:
Food for Though: I’ve had the same question about the song title (whether it was intentional,) but I also suspect that the choice of titles may rub a lot of country fans the wrong way.
Obviously (Wha?), many song titles have been repeated over the years, even some well-known ones, and it usually means nothing. Maybe they never even thought about it.
However, given that “Come On Over” is the title not only of Shania Twain’s top 20 single, but also the title of the biggest selling albums (in any genre) of the last 15 years, recorded by one of the biggest selling country artists of all time, it’s a little hard to believe that nobody gave it any thought at all before choosing to re-use the title for the very first single to be released.
Sure, titles get recycled, but, really, if you were trying to break into rock music, what would you start with? “Dark Side of the Moon?” “Stairway to Heaven?”
Anyway, I know you (Food…) didn’t mean to make a big deal out of it, and neither do I, but it did make me scratch my head a little.
In the end, though, the song will either stand on its own, or it won’t. To me, this one doesn’t.
To WHA says:
WHA, I don’t think anybody here has knocked JS for her boobs, choice of clothing, etc. I think they are only pointing out that maybe they are part of the reason a mediocre singer whose last album sold in career ending numbers has gotten another chance.
I think it’s less jealousy and more a way to explain their bafflement.
It might “sound like jealousy” to you, but here’s my take: If she can make a living off her boobs, more power to her! All we’re saying is she can’t make a living off her voice, at least not in country music.
Food for though says:
Texas Guy: I too thought about how some may perceive her as having the audacity to take a title that Shania had used. That’s why I was wondering who thought this was a good idea and why. I’m not saying it’s good or bad, I’ll leave my personal opinions out so as to keep the discussion constructive. I suppose we won’t truly know how this will work for her until we see real album sales. After all, like with anything, it all comes down to making money. It can be good or bad, as long as it makes money. Another poster had commented about the Billboard ratings and what they really mean and I think he/she had a really good point in saying all that means is amount of air time a song is getting. But that airtime doesn’t always necessarily mean the general public is calling in demanding to hear it. All that can be bought and controlled. And as far as the record company’s promotions/PR person saying it’s good (as someone else mentioned), well of course they are going to say that. A record exec isn’t going to say its sucks, don’t buy it. The real answer, unfortunately, will all come down to money and whether she sells or not.
LOL says:
This was a good one, TexasGuy:
“Sure, titles get recycled, but, really, if you were trying to break into rock music, what would you start with? “Dark Side of the Moon?” “Stairway to Heaven?””
Maybe the title of Jessica Simpson’s album will be “Meet the Beatles” ;)
TexasGuy says:
Food: I guess they could try to say the “title-lifting” was unintentional. That would be a little less “in your face” than saying (as Wha? does) “who cares?” I don’t think, simply from a PR perspective, it would be a very smart thing to claim ignorance of the Shania title.
Think about it - even if it’s true, the idea that they just didn’t realize “Come On Over” was the title of the biggest-selling country album of all time isn’t likely to endear them to country music fans.
Considering the weakness of the song itself, I’d think they would try to be more careful about the things they can control - especially when trying to break into a new market.
Food for thought says:
Well, I think to plead ignorance on the title would definitely not fly because there is no way in Hell that no one in her camp could have NOT known. But then to blatantly just say yeah we piggybacked Shania, that certainly would be just as bad. Perhaps they truly did feel that was the title that did the song justice and said to Hell with it, that’s what the song is and says and feels and we are going to turn it into our own. Again only time and dollar signs will tell if this will work for her. And thank you for some unbiased, constructive conversation on the subject! And I STILL get Shania’s song on the brain whenever I hear “Come on Over.”
Food for thought says:
Oh and to plead ignorance on the title would defintely be an insult to someone of Shania’s caliber (again like her or not, she was a machine in country music). To say you’ve always been a true country music fan (as JS claims) and to NOT know Shania’s titles let alone one of her biggest. Definitely not a good move for someone trying to build herself in this world.
KLO says:
I see where you all are comming from. each person has a really good opinion and rightfully so. Two things from me. First, someone said this
“All we’re saying is she can’t make a living off her voice, at least not in country music.
I see that were not sure if her album will sell or how many copies yet…but then it was also mentioned that her last album (jessica’s) flopped. That was her last album, and her last album only. Jessica has enought money to live comfortable the rest of her life. I think we should all know that…and honestly, its not from the sales of her shoes or hair extensions (just being honest) Its is from her first few albums. They had mad sales and she made tons of money. In other words, She HAS made a living off her voice. Yes, maybe not in country yet, but weve only heard one song that has a 50/50 like/dislike. We cant tell yet. She worked with some really great people on this album, so Im actually really excited to hear it. Another thought is (JMO) I think if she just wanted to make money, she wouldnt have taken such a chance in the country genre, knowing what kind of response she would get.She has said in interviews that she was nervous about how country fans would react. She didnt NEED to go country in order to live her life…she did it because it truely is a passion (singing) and she felt comfortable singing it.
To go back on what I said in the beginning(sorry)about her last album being a flop, I honestly thiink that was because people tended to take Nick’s side in the divorce and were punishing her for it. We dont really know why they divorced, only they know that, but there was lots of public speculation, which later died down, but her album released durring the prime of thier divorce, and she wasnt giving it her all. (Note: in PA she has a title copy there too)
All I think Im saying in this entire post (again, sorry for the lenght) is that she has a right for a chance, because it seems to me it comes from a genuine place. We shall see.

KLO: I think one of the points I was trying to make is that if she was truly “nervous about how country fans would react” she might have given a little more thought to how it would look to release a single that re-uses the title of a Grammy Award-winning song, and the best-selling country album of all time.
I couldn’t care less how much money Ms. Simpson has or makes or wants, and I also don’t think material gain is necessarily (or even primarily) linked in any meaningful way with talent.
Personally, I do not like her vocal style, and don’t think it really fits country music. All I’ve got to go by is the only song of hers that I have ever heard, which is this one. It is also the only Jessica Simpson song I could name. But first impressions are lasting impressions.
You sound like a fan, and so she has nothing to prove to you. But I think more country music fans are like me. She didn’t become as widely known as she is by singing. Outside of the hype around her reality show a few years ago, I would never have heard of her. And outside of her dating Tony Romo, I would have forgotten even that. I’ll have to take your word for the fact she had some success as a singer.
Anybody who listens to the radio will hear the song, and that’s the only “chance” any new singer gets. I have listened, and I don’t care for it.
KLO says:
I get it Texasguy. I get the point you were making, and yes, I am a Jessica fan. Its not that she has nothing to prove to me, Im an over 30’s female fan, so in other words, she does have to impress me, she just cant get by on me being a teenager and I idolize her, but I heard her last album and before it came out, was super excited, only to be let down. I didnt buy the album, because it was not worth it. Now maybe some wont call me a true fan then, I dont know. Im just saying that To hear this song after a bad album makes me happy. This is what her older albums sound like, but with much more emotion put into them. Take my word, yes, she did have some HUGE success from “in this skin”,Sweetkisses” “irresistable” and “rejoyce”.
I know she may not sound like much to you, but to her fans that have followed her, we know she is capable of this and even better :)

Ok, ladies and gents, I just saw a news blip about Jessica’s new perfume . . . “Fancy.” ????? OK, the “Come on Over” was one thing, but now yet ANOTHER recycled big title from ANOTHER huge female country music icon. And before anyone gets their drawers in a bunch, yes I know that “Fancy” was a recycle for Reba. I believe it was Bobbie Gentry of “Haper Valley PTA” fame that sang it first, but PLEASE correct me if need be. But with all that aside, to do this right on the tails of releasing a song with a recycled title (a BIG song, from a BIG artist to boot)? OK, I’m starting to see a pattern. I don’t know about this. This really is starting to seem NOT so much as a coincidence. Again, anyone for some constructive speculation on this one?
KLO says:
How do you connect a name of a perfume to a song?? I think some of you that are quick to jump on Jessica’s back about petty things need to do some research. What about Mariah Carey’s perfume? ok, Paris Hilton. I guess she took that from the Old CanCan dance? Maybe she wants to channel that era? come on people, now your finding anything and everyting to pick on
Food for thought says:
KLO - Gee, let’s see? I connect the perfume with the song just the way I described it above! Nevermind, I’ll save my typing for someone who has real input on this.

Nick Lachey says: says:
Hey Whats up Girl
TexasGuy says:
Food: I was with you on the song title. That was pretty big, and it still kind of bothers me.
I don’t really make the connection on the perfume, though, and I assume it’s all different marketing teams making those decisions. I also don’t think too many people pay attention to “celebrity brands” anyway. I guess if you are going to try to promote the product by placing it in a country music video (as somebody above noted,) you might want to think about the connection, but I did not notice the bottle and only know the name from this thread.
And when you think about it, isn’t Reba’s song about a girl whose family sells her into prostitution? I’d like to think that there is no way that’s the image they are trying to evoke, but with all that’s been written about her dad’s strange comments, I suspect there will be people who make great sport of that connection.
Food for thought says:
Texas Guy: Again, thank you for some actual input on this.
Once again it was just speculation on my part and I have no idea whether or not it was intentional and really don’t care. I have my own opinions about Jessica’s foray into country music and where it may or may not lead. But I’m trying to leave that out.
I definitely don’t think the actual content of the song “Fancy” has anything to do with Jessica’s perfume or an image they are trying to invoke. Just the use of the title on the tails of another recycled title she used. I found the timing to be interesting. I’m just curious as to the thinking going on behind the marketing of all this.
DTR says:
Jessica was wearing cowboy boots in her new video. She is just recycling that from an old Shania video (who is Swiss now, BTW)… she has no original ideas at all.
And the barn thing has been done to death. Geesh!
amberlynn says:
LOL….These discussions give me entertainment for the afternoon. Thanks all ;)
amberlynn says:
okay and, JMO, but I think we could go back to every song in any genre, and pick it apart and find something or someone else to compare it to. Im with you on the same name of the song thing. She should have thought long and hard about that, but I dont think it was intentional name stealing. The lyrics for both songs are very different. Back in the day she was head to head with Mickey mouse clubber Christina Aguillera, but that doesnt mean she took the song title from her does it? Hmmmmmm, maybe? (Christina has a song titled Come on over, too) I think everyone is looking way too hard into the subject. I wish we had answers as to why the song was named that, and why her license plate says Cali, why she is in a barn…etc, etc..OH, and the new funny one about her taking a country song name and putting it on her perfume. Relax, all. There are only so many words to go around!
texasgal says:
Her perfume is called FANCY?! And it is in the video?
That is TOO funny. You are right Food and Guy, there is NO WAY they meant to use the name of that song – not with the dad’s reputation. They are DEFINITELY outsiders to country music!
“Just be nice to the gentlemen and they’ll be nice to you…”
If I ever see it in a store, I don’t think I will be able to walk past the display without laughing!
Always Right says:
LOL at “Nick Lachey’s” message.
But yeah, Jessica needs to leave the country genre—now.
Food for thought says:
I just wonder that if given the obstacles that I think we all believe she will have to overcome on this adventure (and like her or not I think everyone knows she probably has a little more to prove given her history), I think perhaps there should have been a stronger effort to produce something a little more original on the front end. Or maybe the perfume venture should have waited. I know down the road it appears there is some more originality on the horizon, but I’m just wondering if the timing and order in which all this is presented will do her more harm than good. Again, I don’t know. We will know when we see the dollar figures.
LiLi says:
food - “and like her or not I think everyone knows she probably has a little more to prove given her history)”
Are you speaking of her last album not selling well? Im an unsure of her History that was so bad that she would need to prove anything? If she can sing, she can sing. We shall see when the entire album comes out. I have recently listened to some of her older work, and she sounds good, and I see the albums sold well.
I agree and being a little forward with the perfume. That was a little ballsy for her first song in a while. I think the song is cute, but I think the rest of the album better show some fantastic work, or she is gonna have a tough time.
Food for thought says:
Her history meaning that she came from the “Hollywood” and Pop scene in which country music fans tend to not be impressed by. Therefore she may have a tougher time winning over the majority and may have to fight a little harder as opposed to someone unknown who’s reputation is fresh and new.

You would think someone who claims Reba as one of her inspirations would think twice about using her country debut video as an ad for perfume that shares the same name with Reba’s top ten hit about a girl sold into prostitution by her family.
What country fan would buy perfume that reminds them of a poor, unfortunate prostitute. Again, it’s a pretty strange product placement.
allmarketing says:
DId I read Memfis correctly that she is quoting female counrty singers as her inspiration. If that does not make me sick, When did they become her insperation, while she was getting schooled on the famouse country singers before her interview.
All this about her title is stupid, if you want to bash her about something there is a lot more things then a title. Like how she is fake and obviosly thinks country fans are stupid to believe that she is country
I think I would have had more respect for her if she was honest and said, “hey i need to sing and no one else will buy my albums” not I am country and have always been.
Please!!!!1
The only fools that believe that are the fools that are going to buy her album,
Thank God, the stations around her do not play her song like that.
allmarketing says:
shee is all about marketing!!!!!!
Andd please stop saying she was a big pop star. She was a pop singer, but star not even.
she as teen choices awards and mtv awards, she was never a big pop singer the only thing that blew her up was the tv show and that coment
not her singing!!!!!
love her all you want, but come back and comment when you graduate from middle school
KIM says:
Allmarketing - Maybe YOU should come back when you graduate middle school, because judging by your spelling, you must be ….what??… 3rd grade?
I wont even feed into your jealous comments about Jessica, either, that would just be a waste of my time. Night!
KIM1 says:
Is everyone excited to see Jessica this summer?
KIM says:
I sure the hell am!
Harr119 says:
I am a huge Jessica fan & think her album will be a hit. If people will give her a chance. Her last album was o.k. but everyone was getting back at her for the break-up so it didn’t do well. People blamed Jessica for the divorce not even knowing what really happened. I believe Nick was the one who broke her heart. I only want the best for Jessica & wish her all the luck & give her a chance!!!
Drew says:
I was very much a skeptic at first, but am willing to give everyone a chance. Well, when I saw her live last night at Country Thunder I was AMAZED!!!! She was really, really good. I didn’t realize she had the voice that she does. My foot is definitly in my mouth for past remarks I’ve made. She has a sortof country/gospel sound that I really like. My girlfriend filled me in that she first recorded gospel music as an early teen and it came thru in the music. Some of her new material that is suppose to be on her new album is inspirational and I’m glad she has decided to make her home here in country music. We should all feel blessed for that, seriously. Wait, until you hear some of her other songs and you’ll be seeing what I’m talking about.
btw I was next to a couple who were very vocal and booing Jessica as she came up onto the stage and by the end of her set she made some fans out of them too. The one dude was even moved to tears on one song telling his wife, I assumed, that her voice made him think about an angel landing on earth and embracing the audience with lyrics that really touched him.
Amazing! I’ve actually got 9-9-08 reserved in my calander to pick up a copy of her cd and I will not be ashamed to blast it on my car stereo. And off-topic, this whole Carrie vs. Jessica argument is really childish and doesn’t belong in country music. I respect both of these young female singers and will support the music I enjoy to listen to. That being said, some of the songs Jessica sung last night blew away songs I’ve heard recently by all these other supposedly ‘authentic’ country singers. I hope that everyone will just be patient and not judge, in which I think we shouldn’t even judge cause that is left up to God, but be respectful and open up our arms to Jessica and embrace her as she has started to do with so many new listeners and newly-enlisted fans.
GREAT JOB JESSICA!!!!!
BobTN77 says:
I thought she bombed last nite at country thunder.
Have you seen her live? I did. I don’t like her voice.
Enough people are making excuses for her lack of talent, in pop, in music, in relationships.
I gave her a chance and I choose not to see her again or spend any $$ on her music - country, pop or whatever her next attempt may be.
She will earn her worth in country music. Country fans are fair and ARE NOT stupid. It’s up to her, dont blame others.
She has had more than enough chances than the typical person.
Sam L says:
She got booed last nite.
I was there and the local paper noted it too.
RayKenosha says:
Gee, “Drew,” are you her brother, mom or publicist? And how dumb do you think we are…
Good grief…
From the Kenosha News says:
Excerpts from “Simpson Songs Panned by Many” by Megan Schmidt of the Kenosha News that I read online. They did find one person to quote that liked her singing (Drew’s girlfriend?), but here’s what everyone else said…
“With only one country single released, fans doubted if the pop diva could stack up against other country music acts.
“Just because she’s dating Tony Romo it doesn’t make her country,” said Mike Rodriguez, 31, from Lake Geneva. “She doesn’t fit in with country, and I’ll have to drink a lot of beer to sit through her concert.”
Zach Schlodt, 19, of Palatine, Ill., agreed. Simpson’s heart isn’t in country music, and she is just banking on the genre’s current popularity, he said.
“She’s an embarrassment to country music,” he added.
“The crowd welcomed Simpson with a mixture of boos and cheers Saturday night.”
“So the question remains: Did Simpson prove herself?
It didn’t sit well with audience members that Simpson played after a more established country singer, Kellie Pickler.
Many audience members found her attempt to crossover into country irritating and that her vocals lacked a southern sound.
“I just don’t hear the country in her; I don’t hear the twang. She’s not good enough to be here,” said Adam Matos, 21, from Arlington Heights, Ill.
One man summed her performance up in a single word.
“It’s crap,” said Ryan Sia, 28, from East Troy. “She doesn’t belong here.”
Drew says:
Seems to me like people don’t want to open up their minds to the fact that maybe someone they thought wasn’t a country musician is actually better than some of the musicians you enjoy. There were a mixture of cheers and boos at the concert, but, honestly, by the end of the concert there were more cheers than boos. The place was packed to me and I was there on the other 3 nights 2 know it was a packed house. I have to admit she was really nice to look at, but her voice would’ve kept me there too. My girlfriend did enjoy Jessicas’ music beforehand, but we were there to really see Sara Evans, who also did an awesome job! Miranda Lambert was my favorite of the 4 nights and I’m a fan of Emerson Drive so they would have to be next, but I’d put Jessica Simpson right behind them. Then Sara Evans, Taylor Swift, Dierks Bentley, Carrie Underwood, Heartland, and Kellie Pickler.
I really enjoyed myself those 4 days and just wanted to comment on what had really surprised me the most. I’m one who can admit when they are wrong, even moreso on the web rather in person, and I was wrong with pre-judging Jessica.
You can say whatever you want to make yourself feel better or to put others down, but for me personally, I’m glad I have a cd to look forward to after I buy Sugarlands here soon and that would be Jessica Simpsons.
RayKenosha says:
ok, “Drew” … who do you think you are kidding?
Are you that dumb or do you think we are? “Voice of an angel?” People were “weeping?”
NOBODY is that wonderful that they could win me over so completely in one show. Seriously, who do you think you are kidding?
Im sure she has a few fans from whatever she did before, but most country fans don’t prejudge anybody. Kid Rock is one of the most-played vids on this site right now, so who is prejudiced?
Just because people don’t like her doesnt mean they are prejudiced. I heard her song right here and i dont like it…whatever…
And now you try to recruit god to jessica’s fan club???!!! “I think we shouldn’t even judge cause that is left up to God”
What? Only God can judge a SONG? I am pretty sure nobody on this blog has judged her SOUL, just her VOICE. If you want to send her voice to heaven, good for you - oh sorry, i mean BACK to heaven, right, “Drew?”
Give me a break. I like intelligent conversations, but this just takes the cake… who do you think you will win over? theres maybe 25 people who posted here and most of them already took a taste and spit it out, so now you try to tell us dont believe your lying ears, you “jealous haters”
if you want people to listen to her then shut up and let them listen dont try to tell us what we just heard
Drew says:
I really don’t want to get into a fued with somebody, so I just want to clarify some points.
I can’t speak for the couple that was next to me, but I just commented on what I heard and saw. Not all people do the same things as others would do or act. I wasn’t weeping nor was I close to it, but I was really surprised out how great she and enjoyed her performance.
Everyone has their right to their opinion esp. when it comes to their own personal taste in music, movies, and soforth. When I commented on the judging I meant about the comments that were attacking her as a person. I’m sorry if that came out different. I didn’t intend for my comment to come out that way and if I did indeed offend anyone I am sorry.
Her songs just really impressed me and I wanted to voice my opinion when I had read some comments that just seemed to be unfair to her esp. if they had yet to hear anything she has done and are attacking her ‘tabloid persona’.
“RayKenosha” I respect your opinion and hope when she has released more material you may enjoy what I do, but who knows, she just might not be your ‘cup of tea’ and you’re entitled to that.
Did you perhaps want my social security number before you take those air-quotes off my name…lol. Just poking some fun at the whole situation :)
Take care man!
CountryThundrFAN says:
In my opinion. I was there and I gave her a “chance” and her vocals were not good. I am a straight guy and she was okay to look at but not the best, for even that night. She looked desperate. I wish her the best of luck.
Butthead says:
I think the “tears” from the concent-goer last night were probably too much alcohol all day long. You drink enough, anything sounds good and moves you to tears.
Total Rubbish! says:
This is just a booty call, countrified! there is no plot, no meaning, no story at all to this song. All jessica does is try to sell sex– surprise, suprise, given that she is still a pop artist and always will be. She needs to go back to pop– she is about as country as kanye west. Between her skanky outfits in this video, and seducing the camera, she may as well be Britney Spears. Total crap.
Carrie Underwood, she is not. TEAM CARRIE!
JessicaWasBooed! says:
I was there last night- and everyone was booing her in my section and elsewhere.. I think she had a few fans there as she did get some cheers- some people were being polite, but couldn’t wait for sara evans.
What irked me the most- is why on earth did Poor kellie pickler have to OPEN for this skank? Kellie may not be exactly up to par with Carrie Underwood or sara evans- but she has been here a few years now and deserved to go AFTER jessica-popfake-simpson. That was an outrage. Poor kellie!
Jessica is an ok singer- but nothing special live. She sounds much better on the cd– just like Taylor swift. The two of them have a real hard time singing live. Carrie Underwood, on the other hand- can sing better live then on the cd somehow- and I never thought that was possible. Same with martina I guess- she rocks live too.
anyway– her concert was a mess. She did mostly cover songs, and tried to do a Shania song but destroyed it. I think she is trying to be the next Shania/Carrie Underwood- but it is not going to work.
We would have left happily before her set- but my wife wanted to see Sara so we suffered through it.
The only tears- were those of us in pain, hoping she would leave.
Carrie did sound like an angel on Wednesday night- but Jessica sounded like a pimped out Taylor Swift, not much better vocally, but a little better. Then again- anyone can sing better then Taylor so that isn’t saying much.
Michael says:
Drew— are you seriously trying to put Jessica Simpson ahead of those great artists you listed?? Jessica BEFORE carrie Underwood- are you serious?? Carrie sings circles around Jessica– they are not even in the same league!
I was at both Carrie’s show on wednesday, and jessica’s last night…not by choice (for jessica)– but we paid the money and wanted to see kellie pickler and sara evans- so we stomached JEssica. But it was ugly- let me tell you.
Was she horrible? no. She actually sings better than Taylor Swift who was the worst live singer I ever heard. (what do people see in her anyway- she is BAD!) I am not a liar so I won’t exagerrate. But I am honest. She was not good– but better then Swifty- who is very over-rated.
But Carrie, Miranda, Kellie and even the newbies like Ashton Shepard all beat jessica by miles.
It was an insult to Kellie pickler to have to go before Jessica- who was doing her first concert ever…
How did that happen anyway? Does anyone know why jessica wasn’t put aat 4:00 instead of AFTER kellie?? kellie has been here 2 years, and jessica just started. what an insult! It really got my goat- and pissed off alot of other people too.
She did not sound like an angel and no one was crying- unless they were drunk. she wasn’t horrible- but she was nothing special.
Best performances of the whole festival: Carrie Underwood, Joe Nichols, Dierks, Miranda, and kellie.
Drew- how can you possibly put jessica ahead of all those great artists you listed? wow.

MSNBC review:
Jessica Simpson tries to go country
Gets mixed reviews from fans at Wisconsin concert
3 p.m. ET, Sun., July. 20, 2008
RANDALL, Wisc. - Jessica Simpson’s gone country – but can she stay there?
The aspiring crossover singer made her country concert debut at the Country Thunder USA Festival in Randall, Wisc. on Saturday, where she reached out to an unsure audience.
“I don’t know what your perception is of Jessica Simpson or what tabloid you buy, but I just want you to know that I’m just a girl from Texas; I’m just like you,” Simpson told the crowd, according to the Kenosha News. “I’m doing what I love and dating a boy.”
High-profile boyfriend and Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo may not have been there to comment, but concertgoers were quick to offer their opinions of Simpson’s show.
“I actually like her country songs better,” Mary Grace told the newspaper. “She has a great voice, plus, she’s adorable.”
In addition to her own material, Simpson reportedly sang country covers including Willie Nelson’s “On the Road Again” and Shania Twain’s “Who’s Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?” But she didn’t win over everyone.
“I just don’t hear the country in her,” said Adam Matos, from Arlington Heights, Ill. “I don’t hear the twang. She’s not good enough to be here.”
Mike Rodriguez of Lake Geneva, Wisc., seconded that opinion.
“Just because she’s dating Tony Romo it doesn’t make her country,” he said. “She doesn’t fit in with country, and I’ll have to drink a lot of beer to sit through her concert.”
Simpson faced some steep competition at Country Thunder, where more established artists such as Carrie Underwood, Miranda Lambert and Sugarland were also on the bill. Her country album is due for release on September 9.
Drew says:
Hey, don’t stone me for my own opinion…lol. Just my take on the performances, you don’t have to agree.
Off-topic, but wasn’t Miranda Lambert excellent?!?! This was the fourth time I’ve seen her and I think this is the best I have seen her yet. Love her latest album too!
Audrey T. says:
Loved it! The song is really fun and the video was shot beautifully!
Michael says:
I loved Miranda– she was wonderful. Carrie is a better singer though…but both ladies were great in their own way.
sawheronextra….. says:
Wow, did everyone know that she was in nash. for a whole 3 weeks doing her album… Oh my, how could i have been so closed minded. she is soooo country and has the 3 week hotel reciept to prove it.
by the way, did i happen to miss sugarland on extra pushing their album, didnt thnk so. She is pop and that is all she knows how to be. She put her heart and soul in this album for 3 weeks, put some boots on and made a video in a barn
What was I thinking this girl is all counrty!!!!
The writers must have missed the memo to meet in ca!!!!
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
me says:
There are a lot of haters here too just like the pop world. Maybe we need a new genre, where people can sing and not be judge by gossip in tabs. Her last CD maybe didn’t sell the way it could have, but she didn’t promote it the way she should have. Perhaps because of what she was going through in her personal life. She also had a few songs that sounded country on that CD and the pop fans did not support that. She stated that she loved country music even when she sang pop.
People forget the kind of heart that this girl has. Jessica has visited the troop numerous times. When the troops call she first in line. Never mind that it could have cause her life not knowing she had a kidney infection. I, as a fan will remain her fan no matter what genre she sing under. I love her voice, like her spirit and personality. Her heart is in the right place. People have yet to hear and know about some of the thing that she has done that are not public. They like to hear about the bad and not the good. Everyone here should be looking to help. You should be part of the solution not the problem. If you don’t like her song then don’t buy them. But for God sake stop the trashing she does not deserve that. I wonder if any of those other singers have as small a heart as the people in here do. I think you would be supprise that many of them have embraced her and are encourging her.
You have yet to hear her. I mean after the fear of failier has past. It took her three year to get up again. If she got boo at a concert, it wasn’t because she wasn’t good it was because your hearts were small.
Food for thought says:
Sounds like the people that are trying to promote her and this adventure are just not making the right decisions. I agree with the person who said that Kellie P. should not have had to “open” for her at Country Thunder. Country fans don’t take too kindly to seeing people just get everything handed to them. Kellie (like her or not) is attempting to work her way through the ranks and has some damn good songwriting credit under her belt (”I Wonder”). And then on top of Jessica’s title copying (”Come on Over”, “Fancy”, the perfume promo picture looking like Faith in “Breathe”) you gotta be wondering who is making these decisions. All this is really starting to appear as BIG marketing blunders.
countrythunder lineup says:
they had to put her between Kellie P. and Sara Evans at Country Thunder or nobody would have stayed to listen to her. People came to hear Kellie and Sara. By putting Jessica in the middle, they made sure thay had a captive audience for her.
Food for thought says:
Good point, “countrythunder lineup.” Sounds like if that was the case it sure did backfire. This is just not looking good for her.
Audrey T. says:
I wonder if the lineup was set that way because Jessica has been in the music business for longer and has worked her ass off for 10 years since her first cd came out. Don’t you think it’s also funny that the promoters for the concert decided to give Jess a huge spot on their poster for the event. You can’t blame Jess for the way the event organizers decided to handle it. Even before Kellie had her first cd come out she was often compared to Jessica and said she was a fan of hers during her American Idol stint. Jessica even gave Kellie her whole line of shoes during the show including a pair of ‘Red High Heels’…lol.
Food for thought says:
Well, whatever it was, it doesn’t appear it went over well with the fans. Fans won’t really care who or what Jessica likes and who she let borrow shoes. Marketers and organizers have to know what appeals to the audience and it sounds like someone in that area is not doing their job very well.
countrythunder lineup says:
Maybe the person in charge of marketing Jessica Simpson’s shoe line gave Kellie shoes while she was on Idol, hoping she would wear them on the show. A lot of people watch Idol. It would have been a free ad for the shoe line. You know, a product placement, like the perfume in this video.
So she tried to use Kellie Pickler for a product placement on one of the highest rated shows on T.V., and that’s the reason we’re supposed to buy her cd?
Food for thought says:
I agree that the subliminal perfume ad in the video is REALLY tacky.
JoesTexMix says:
Please just go away - its like that cock roach that just keeps coming back.
JoesTexMix says:
Jessica Simpson and Papa, please listen to the country fans, you do not belong in country music.
alicia says:
seriously all the haters are upset about everything that has to do with jessica simpson. if it all bothers you so much then why get on here and talk about it sooooo much. get over it and get a life. your rediculous. nobody is forcing you to talk about her see her or hear her but yourself.
matt m says:
sorry alicia. i disagree. jessica simpson has been shoved in our faces over and over again. we have a right to speak our opinion. the poor souls who went to see sara evans had to sit through her crybaby set and then she cursed about the people that talk s#it. this coming from the immature shirt about real girls. get a grip jessica.
She is n-a-s-ty. She needs to grow up. Shes almost 30. SAD
Jessica says:
I believe the REAL reason Jessica is making a country album is to make more money for herself and daddy.
Jessica is in it for the money. People are STUPID if they don’t see it. Jessica’s heart is not singing country music, It is making as much money as possible off of her fans.
She lies to her fans ALL the time ( She even admitted that “I’m a Good Liar” in the November 2000 issue of Teen People).
Jessica and Joe are ONLY in it for the money and nothing else.
If Jessica has such a HUGE fanbase as people claim then why have all of her albums bombed? In This Skin had to be re-released becuse it was not selling well.
Jessica is a Hypocrite plain and simple. She’ll do and say ANYTHING just to make a buck.
I don’t believe that Jessica is the Christian that she wants people to think she is. Her Fruit (words and actions) speak VOLUMES. Jessica is not a follower of Christ, she is a follower of money. Jessica goes where the money flows, wether that be in Pop or Country music.

Jessica Simpson’s New Perfume Stinks, Informal Survey Says |Published by MTV News on Friday, July 25, By Jennifer Vineyard
Jessica Simpson’s no stranger to the perfume counter. With all the products she’s put out over the years, including the Dessert line, you’d think she’d be an expert on fragrances by now — well, at least when it comes to kids’ stuff. Her first foray into an adult line — called Fancy — launches in department stories August 15.
“With Fancy, I wanted to create a pretty fragrance, one that I could be just as comfortable wearing on the red carpet or every day with my favorite jeans,” the singer said in a statement. (Jessica already has a jeans line, but she recently announced she’s branching out with contemporary dresses and lingerie to launch next spring…
However, that combo wasn’t too pleasing for several of our female staffers and interns (and even a few brave guys!) who sniff-tested a sample of the scent. The overall consensus was that it smelled like a little girl playing dress-up. …15 of them had to say:
“It smells like the perfume girls would bring to summer camp (…likely swiped from their mothers’ vanities).” — Rya
“It smells kind of old lady-ish….” — Kristen
“I wouldn’t wear it. It smells like a girl and not a woman. It’s too fruity. It smells like cotton candy.” — Shannon
“It smells like a mix of lillies and bubblegum. Random, but good.” — Christina
“I have a bunch of jewelry that belonged to my great-grandmother, including a pendant that held perfume and tainted all the other necklaces it was stored with. This smells like my great-grandmother’s jewelry.” — Lindsey
“It’s awful. It smells like the cheap stuff they sell at Duane Reade.” — Tami
“It makes me want to put my hair in pigtails. It’s way too sweet smelling.” — Kate
“It’s a good smell for food, but not so much for perfume.” — Steve
“I would wear it. In fact, it’s kind of like the fragrances I already wear. I really like sweet, fruity, ….” — Brittany
“That smells horrible and I would never wear it. It’s too strong and sweet. I still smell it, and it is making me nauseated.” — Julie
“It’s a lot like when you leave a bunch of cotton candy in a hot car, and then get back in the car a couple of hours later. Once the initial sweetness dissipates, it smells oddly boozy, …” — Michelle
“After the amber sinks in, it has a lasting musk smell. I do not like the perfume!” — Kelly
“It’s a pleasant surprise. It’s very sophisticated for Jessica Simpson.” Ashley
“When combined, this seductive bouquet of exotic fruits, tantalizing candy flavors, and other fabulous scents immediately singes the nostril and causes freakishly violent nausea. If my girl was wearing this, I’d have to really reconsider my relationship status on Facebook.” — Sebastian
“It smells like cotton candy, which I love to eat, but not to wear. Who wants to smell sticky?” — Liz
Lori says:
First of all, I can not stand this chick……. She thinks she can sing country, well she can’t….. Her song is come on over, she needs to go back over to pop music and continue to try and sing that…. Country music, to the country music fan, is about the music and feeling poured into it and she is just there to act like the slutty chick that she is…… Don’t need her…. Send her back quickly……..
FANCY-Reba’s song says:
I remember it all very well lookin’ back
It was the summer I turned eighteen
We lived in a one room, rundown shack
On the outskirts of New Orleans
We didn’t have money for food or rent
To say the least we were hard pressed
Then Mama spent every last penny we had
To buy me a dancin’ dress
Mama washed and combed and curled my hair
And she painted my eyes and lips
Then I stepped into a satin’ dancin’ dress That had a split on the side clean up
to my hip
It was red velvet trim and it fit me good
Standin’ back from the lookin’ glass
There stood a woman where a half grown kid
had stood
She said here’s your one chance Fancy don’t let me down
She said here’s your one chance Fancy don’t let me down
Mama dabbled a little bit of perfume on my neck
And she kissed my cheek
Then I saw the tears wellin’ up in her troubled eys
As she started to speak
She looked at a pitiful shack and then she looked at me and took a ragged breath
She said your Pa’s runned off and I’m real sick
And the baby’s gonna starve to death
She handed me a heart shaped locket that said
“To thine own self be true”
And I shivered as I watched a roach crawl accross
The toe of my high heeled shoe
It sounded like somebody else that was talkin’
Askin’ “Mama what do I do?”
She said just be nice to the gentlemen Fancy
They’ll be nice to you
She said here’s your one chance Fancy don’t let me down
Here’s your one chance Fancy don’t let me down
Lord forgive me for what I do,
But if you want out, well it’s up to you
Don’t let me down now, your Mama’s gonna move you uptown
Well, that was the last time I saw my Ma
When I left that rickety shack
The welfare people came and took the baby
Mama died and I ain’t been back
But the wheels of fate had started to turn
And for me there was no way out
And it wasn’t very long ’til I knew exactly
What my Mama’d been talkin’ about
I knew what I had to do and I made myself this solemn vow
That I’s gonna be a lady someday
Though I didn’t know when or how
But I couldn’t see spending the rest of my life
With my head hung down in shame you know
I might have been born just plain white trash
But Fancy was my name
She said here’s your one chance Fancy don’t let me down
She said here’s your one chance Fancy don’t let me down
