Country T-Shirts Are Coming On Strong

Ever since Jessica Simpson put on that "Real Girls Eat Meat" shirt, and Craig Shelburne wrote his blog about it, my T-shirt message radar has been on high. It's remarkable to me that in this hyper-verbal age of ours, with everyone texting and im'ing and staying in constant touch, that people need shirts to say what's really on their mind.

So at a country concert over the weekend, I was on the lookout for some really good T-shirts. Not just your average, everyday country shirts like "Mama Tried" and "Redneck Woman." I wanted to see some originals. And, boy, did I get lucky. Near the beer tent, I saw a man with one that said "Go Ugly Early." He told me it was a strategic move, that it was a sure thing to hit on an ugly girl early instead of waiting around for the nerve to try to hook up with a pretty girl later on. I wondered if he'd be wearing that shirt while flirting and how that might affect his odds.

Then I saw a cool one. It had a picture of Willie Nelson smoking, with the words "Legalize It." Another similar T-shirt just said "I Want to See the Country the Way Willie Sees the Country." But once the show started, that's when I saw the really strong stuff. Like the teenage girl with the "Save a Horse, Ride a Cowgirl" shirt. Nice. And another woman, trying a little too hard to look too young, had on a tank top with this brazen statement: "What Happens in Nashville, Stays in Nashville."

By the end of the night, though, my two favorite T-shirts were ones inspired by two of my favorite country artists. One said "Titties and Beer, Thank God I Ain't Queer," which comes from the lyrics of the Rodney Carrington song of the same name. And the other one simply said "Does This Honkytonk Make My Badonkadonk Look Big?"

    Hey Alison…

You should have sat by me last weekend…You could have been treated to the guy in my row whose T-shirt said

” Yeah I am that Big”

I don’t think my husband thought that was too funny.

A few years ago at a country festival I saw a young woman wearing a shirt that said “I French Canadians” (incidently, there were quite a few Canadian acts on the bill.) I laughed my butt off. Alas, I’ve never seen that for sale anywhere.
