Hooked on New Summer Music

Jewel

I've been lucky to hear a bunch of albums so far this year, and every once in a while, I just get hooked on one song. For example, I really love "Anyone But You," which is on Jewel's new country album. I wish she would make a whole album of traditional country music, because her voice is certainly suited to it. I also get a big kick out of Dolly Parton's reinterpretation of "Drives Me Crazy" from the Fine Young Cannibals.

Meanwhile, Jakob Dylan of The Wallflowers offers a positive perspective on "Something Good This Way Comes," and John Hiatt's "Love You Again" is a refresher course on romance. (Alan Jackson, if you're reading this, I think Denise would love to hear you to sing it, too.) Beyond that, I have included a UK sensation (Adele), a roadhouse band (Reckless Kelly), a bluegrass master (Dan Tyminski) and a quiet Australian songwriter (Whitley), among lots of other goodies. Try ‘em out and you might just get hooked too.

Some neat picks there. I wish CMT would pay more attention to all country fans and not just their target demographic whose taste are really outside what most country fans like.

CMT writers should check out the best country-rock sellers on amazon.com which right now including not only include a few Nashville pop artists, but also classic country rock including the Byrds, CCR, and Mark Knopfler. Emmylou is No. 1, Van Morrison is No. 2, and Levon Helm is No. 3. Classic artists sell better on Amazon than what CMT usually promotes.

I’m really diggin’ the new Jim Lauderdale album, Honey Songs, as well as the Byrds archival release from 1971, Live at Royal Albert Hall which is No. 2 in live album sales. CMT should have 12 string guitar genius Roger McGuinn on.

And for the record, at age 65, Mr. Guinn is very handsome, looks young without modification, and also popular with women. I’ve seen him 10 times. :D
