Can You Duet: Naomi Judd Surprised by Finale

Posted: June 13th, 2008 at 9:46 pm  |  By: Kim Sorensen

Can You Duet FinalistsNaomi Judd is a judge on CMT’s Can You Duet competition.

I must say that I could have never predicted how this competition was going to turn out. Not that I’m unhappy with the final choice. In fact when you look at it purely from inside the music business, the duet with the best chance of establishing themselves and making a long career as artist were the winners.

It’s no secret that Joey and Rory were my favorites. To me they were the most authentic duet on the show and I loved practically everything they did. After the filming of the last episode I found out that my masseuse, Richard Valdez and family, is their next-door neighbor and never told me. It must have been difficult for him to have kept that secret, but knowing that it could have impacted the show, he knew it was best not to tell me. My husband Larry and I just had lunch a few days ago at Joey’s little restaurant, Marcy Jo’s, outside of Columbia, Tenn. Pork Chops, mashed potatoes and green beans.

I want to make a public apology to The Coppola twins. I was too hard on them and in the pressure of filming the show I misspoke when I said they had no character. What I was trying to convey, and it was all in the context of their music, was that I didn’t think they had a specific style or sound. They both can sing and they are both very talented, pretty young ladies. I just didn’t hear a unique blend to their voices. In fact, in my opinion, the twin thing worked against them because they blended too well. If that makes any sense. I’m sure they will go on and do very well in the business if they choose to.

I took my position as a judge on the show very serious. I tried to have fun with it but at the same time I didn’t want to mislead anyone. Trust me, it wasn’t easy. You really have to try and remove any emotion from the decisions you have to make, but it still hurt when we had to cut a duet. I got very close and emotionally invested in those kids and I wish all of them success and happiness. - Naomi Judd

I just loved watching the show. I really loved the singers!! But to the judges GREAT JOB!! I think Catlin and Will is Super Stars also!!!. I hope to see a great season 2. I will be waiting to watch the new show. Catlin and Will you truly ROCK. Your #1 fan.

Naomi, I believe that this was a very difficult decision. I always felt it would be either Rory & Joey or Caitlin & Will. I was partial to Caitlin & Will because Will is my husband’s cousin’s son, but he has always been a terrific musician. I think the difficulty they had by being complete strangers at the beginning of the competition made them work harder, and helped tremendously in their success. I can’t wait for their first CD.

Judges, I can say I was very unhappy with the outcome of the show.I always felt that Rory & Joey were the most talented most consistant. And should have been awarded the sony record contract. As for the judges I think some of them spoke out of both sides of there mouth. I think Naomi got it right when she said they were STARS. I hope they do a record because it will be worth buying.

The last show was great! However, my family and I think that all 4 duets should get recording contracts because…we’d buy all of them. Joey & Rory were our personal favorites because of their style; Will & Catlin had the best vocals but needed to polish their style. It was fun to watch the entire season and cannot wait to see the next one.

Whoa! I am disappointed yet happy. I was pulling for both Joey and Rory AND Will and Caitlyn….too bad they both couldn’t win. Joey and Rory still have what appears to be a wonderful relationship. Everything always works out for the best for those involved. I will absolutely buy a cd from either duo!

I was SOOOO disappointed that Joey & Rory didn’t win. I was screaming at my TV. I couldn’t believe it!!

Yes, Caitlin & Will are great, but I really want to see Joey & Rory make an album because I would absolutely buy it tomorrow. I can see them on the Grand Ol Opry and on the CMA’s, etc.

I sure hope someone makes a CD with them. And I hope Rory stays part of a “duet” and doesn’t just have Joey sing on her own. They are best TOGETHER.

I agree with most of the posts. It’s too bad that Sony couldn’t give out 3 contracts. I was pretty upset by the loss of Joey and Rory, but I know they will probably get a record deal anyways, as will Brownell and Richey. Listening to Caitlyn and Will captivates you. I agree that Caitlyn needs to work on her image a little, but they are still awesome and they represent the common person. Great job.

I too was not happy with Joey and Rory not winning. They were out absolute favorites and stood out because they ARE country music. I hope they still get a record deal from someone else, if I were a record label I would have signed them up already. Thanks to all the judges for a good job, I can only guess how tough it was.

I personally am so happy that Caitlin and Will won! thay have been my absolute favorite since the beginning!

And for the judges I thought what they had to say about the competition from week to week was fair(Some of it I would have said myself. Even though i dont know them personally i think they are sweet and kind people who only had good intentions toward the contestants.

I liked both Joey & Rory, and Caitlin and Will. But as a singer/songwriter myself I was leaning towards caitlin and will. For two singers to be put together for less than 2 months and have such great chemistry and harmonies, they were fantastic. And I wouldn’t worry about Joey and Rory because they probably already have a record deal after tonight anyway. I mean the Coppolas have signed a writing deal with EMI and they came in fourth. And I along with everyone else would buy cds from both of them!

Like everyone else, I too, am disappointed with the outcome of the show. I was for Joey and Rory all the way. They made Pure Country fans very proud and they will be heard from again soon. Another Record label will pick them up and they will make that Joey+Rory album for all of us. Congratulations to Will and Caitlin and much success to you both on your new journey.

    naomi,
just wanted to say I thought all the judges did get! just look how you paired the winners up. i was glad to see the music stay country and not rock. many people still love country. i thing the suggestions were on the money. your comments were why i started watching the show. i loved the humor, also. oh, everytime you came to houston, my husband was front row to watch you. it kept telling me it was because he was born in Letcher co. anyway, thanks for making the show interesting and moving.

I was always a fan of Joey and Rory as #1 and Caitlin and Will as #2. But I know Joey was a little off on her last performance and nerves set in. I understood what a hard decision it was to be fair and know the fan favorite didn’t sing well at the end. But if not them, then I was so glad Caitlin and Will were the winners! Both of them have extremely good and powerful voices. They do complement each other. Thanks for a terrific season! I’m just sorry they had to show both tonight..I guess because they were going to show Nashville Star soon and wanted this one off? Well, “Can you Duet” is ten times better than Nashville Star. I can’t wait for next season and hope all the judges stay. YOu are all terrific!

Will and Catlin are going to amaze people in the future. remember how short of a time they have been together. What will they be like when they have sang together as long as any of the other duets.

I too enjoyed Rory and Joey and think they need to do a CD of love songs. With their energy and vocals, it would be a big seller. (I know I would have a copy)

Coppolas need to work with a vocal coach and find song selections that maximize their talents. Song choices worked against them more than for them. Too much alike works against them …..and may need to consider a third person into their group to add the distinction.

can’t wait to see what Season 2 brings.

Had my hopes up for Rory & Joey. Hands down my favorites from start to finish. But now that the decision has been made, I’m so glad that Caitlyn and Will won instead of Brownell and Richy. Don’t forget your roots, C&W; stay humble.

LOVED all three judges. Look forward to season 2. 1 request - PLEASE keep it as family-oriented as possible. I love the show and won’t tolorate having my kids watching TV with bleep outs one after the next. The young ones need wholesome TV - Please help country stay close to God.

What a show, I was disappointed that Joey & Rory didn’t win, but I also loved Caitlin & Will. I believe the last two standing should have been the above duo’s not Brownell & Richy. They are ROCKERS NOT COUNTRY……..

The judges were so great, loved that Naomi was so rough on the Coppola’s, they were to conceited, just 2 more pretty faces, no CHARACTER…right on Noami……..

we’re glad that Will and Caitlyn won (because we know Will from high school and they have great voices) but I’m surprised that Joey and Rory finished 3rd. I said from the first time I heard them sing that they were going to win it all because they seemed genuinely “country”…and their stage presence was so natural. I think they blew it with their last song…not one of their best performances, unfortunately. Only my opinion, of course. I still think both duos did fantastic and I would have been happy with either one. Brownell and Richey? Too much Rock and roll…

I don’t understand why the judges continued to put through Brownell and Ritchie. Cute yes- stage presence yes- harmonize no, country NO, NO, NO. They are not country at all. Night after night they were warned about being humble and they never got it. They have no place on the stage until they can notice someone besides themselves. Also it wasn’t American Idol it was Country Duet- Brownell and Ritchie are not country. The top three should of been the Capola’s, Will & Caitlin, & Joey & Rory. The top two should of been Caitlin and Will, and Joey and Rory. I thinkt he winners are just great- they showed their range from soft to hard and they both are very humble and appreciative. Joey & Rory- We’ll see you!!! You are great. Capola’s - good but the one sister was kind of like Brownell - too cocky and gave off the persona that she deserved to be there. You’re good and I am sure we’ll see you again but loosen up be humble- your sister is a great leader follow her (one that plays harmonica). Next season I hope they boot the non grateful and humble ones- othres deserve to be there over and above the cocky ones- not any fun watching cocky.

I loved the outcome. I was a fan of Rory and Joey as well. But I was torn between wanting them to win and not wanting them to win. Because I really think that the show biz life would have changed their dynamic some. How could it not?

As far as their performances, I did think that they were probably the most consistent, but didn’t make the leaps and bounds in improvement that others made toward the end. I think though, if we could have seen more of their own songs like the “Cheater, Cheater” song we may have been more blown away. If they make an album at some point, I’ll be buying one for sure!

Oh and by the way? How were those sticky buns anyway?

Will and Caitlin are very good but Joey and Rory are what true country is really all about…How the judges could pass through Brownell and Richey week after week is beyond me…I didn’t even think they were cute…let alone anywhere close to country….If Joey and Rory don’t get a record deal I don’t know if I will even be back to watch a second season!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were so happy for Caitlyn & Will. You can help but love them! They found their harmony and the final three performances were captivating. Having said that, we were pulling for Joey & Rory. Their voices are pure country and would fit right in with Emmy Lou Harris, Allison Krauss, George Strait and Vince Gill. Despite not winning this competition, we hope they’ll continue to perform. We went the The Grand Ole Opry recently, and I think they would feel very much at home there.
As for the judges- critical, yes at times~ however they were there to do a job and they dit it well. We think that Brett obviously is very good at what he does, and Aimee,we just love her~her songwriting speaks for itself. I think she gave Will & Caitlyn a very nice compliment saying she’d love to hear them sing any of her songs. That had to make them feel good. Naomi-while tough at times~knows harmony and a clear strong voice when she hears them. She should know. There has not been another female country performer since her daughter Wynonna who has that richeness, character and range that she does. We do feel Caitlyn has that and her performances with Will~we hope to see them perform very soon.

I too have to jump in on the Rory and Joey bandwagon. The rockers (Brownell and Richie sorry for bad spelling?) were just that, rockers. They did fine if you like rock. This was country not rock. I would have figured that would/should have eliminated Brownell and Richie.

Will and Caitlyn (sp again), were great too. It should have come down to Will and Caitlyn or Joey and Rory. That would have been a tough choice even for me. I know I will hear about Will and Caitlyn, but want to find more from Joey and Rory. I will search for Joey and Rory music!

Well, I love Caitlin and Will, but I was torn between them and Joey and Rory. I was hoping that by Joey and Rory winning that maybe country music would get some of their “traditional roots” back. I am not saying that C and W are awesome, because they are! I just think that Joey and Rory bring such humbleness to everything they do and I love the fact that are in love and not just a put on and it shows everytime they perform. I am such of a fan of greats like Tammy Wynette, who when most kids were listening to Micheal Jackson,Duran Duran ( in the eighties ), I was still listening to Loretta Lynn, Tammy and George, Barbara Mandrell, and Patsy Cline! I would love to hear someone re-record “Till I can Make It On My Own” again. I just love traditional, from the heart, story-telling, real-life music of the past generations! I still can’t wait to buy Joey and Rory’s cd or Caitlin and Will’s! I honestly love them both, and I am glad it was them instead of the boys!

I truly hope that Caitlyn (wow what a voice)and Will can continue to evolve into the duo that we know they can be. Thank you for such moving performances. I too, was moved to tears the last 3 performances. Please don’t be another “star” that falls apart and can’t control their lives. You two are better than that. KEEP FOCUSED. “God” given Talent and Humility. When you have both those qualities, you are already a winner. Cailin & Will (Congratulations) You used both of your qualities to your best advantage. To the other contestants, like Naomi said you are all winners. To experience so much talent on one show was the incentive for watching. I would not want the Judges job, I am not qualified, and how difficult it must be to know you are looking for the “It” factor. Naomi, Brett & Amy (what a tough job) Your choice was fair & insightful. All of the entertainers were excellent and I am sure we will see them all again! Good Job Judges!
Excellent Entertainment Contestants! As for Brownell & Richey. Give the boy a break, He’s young, cocky, yes, but they were good. He just needs the humility to realize that
“God” is First, in all scenarios. Without that “God Given” Talent he would be just like most of us. (A Spectator)
Thank you for first class entertainment, and your wisdom in selecting the duo you did! Even the contestants stood for Caitlin & Will & Rory & Joey gave them their endorsement on a spectacular rendition of their singing
abilities. It was hard not to cheer for everyone!
I look forward to all the wonderful music we will hear in the very near future from such a talented group of people

I was disappointed last night, but not completely surprised. All three final duos were fantastic in their own rights–BUT, this is a country music competition, and only 1 duo was truly country. The others are rockers. But, country isn’t country any more, is it? Rock music has bled over to into hip hop, so rockers are now going over to country music since rock isn’t pure anymore either.
I hate that country music has been pimped up, rocked out, and watered down–nothing pure about it anymore.

Two of the three judges are into that “new-wave”, bleeding vocal chord style that so many performers are using today. Many of today’s stars may not be singing in another 5-10 years as a result as they buy into “louder, bigger, blow-it-out is better”. Given that, I understand why Joey and Rory were cut. They were authentic, pure, gifted and had a quiet, confidence that resonated loud and clear every time they stepped out together on stage “and off”. They are genuine through and through–from their music to their characters to their marriage. They reflect the values and character America (and country music) has lost along the way–and how refreshing to see them demonstrate it over and over again.

It also is not lost on me that “Judge Amy” is a song-writer, and Rory is a bit of a conflict of interest for her. She would want a winner who will make her songs shine. He writes his own–and has for many big stars as well.

I wish Caitlin and Will the best. They are truly gifted and seem to be good people at heart. I hope they will work on their chemistry with each other–as they were tossed together, but never believable as a couple/duo. They need to connect and develop that chemistry.

Thanks for a great show! Joey and Rory, I can’t wait to buy your album. And, if you tour, I’m first in line for a concert ticket!!

I normally do not watch reality shows, but I was hooked early on CAN YOU DUET. I enjoyed the judges and thought they were extremely fair. I along with others were upset that the 2 real country stars did not win. Joey and Rory. They were absolutely wonderful. I turned off the TV and did not watch the ending. I had to go on line today to see who won. I also hope they have a CD out soon because I would love to have it. My second choice was also Will and Caitlin. Naomi,
I am 63 years old and have always been a country music fan. Some of my favorites have been Loretta, Tammy, the Georges(Jones and Strait), Kenny Rogers, The Judds, etc. Well you get the picture. I really think that you were right about the Coppolas. I can’t believe that they got as far as they did. The way one of the girls laid all over her twin at the end of each show. As for Brownell and Richey, Jerimiah was fine but that little cocky Nick should be made to take humble training. He certainly thought that he had won when he said, “I want it now”. However, the true winners were Joey and Rory. I will miss my fix on Friday nights. I would buy any cd those two make or go to any concert that they perform. Some of us don’t like that head banging and screaming. We like true country. I understand that you wanted someone who will win awards. Even the award shows have gone to that rock screaming. I can’t stand to watch them anymore. Caitlyn and Will are young and impressionable. I hope that they will become more country and less rock and roll.

Terrific show last nite! I really liked Joey and Rory too, and the passion they bring as man & wife, but the strength of Caitlin and Will’s voices can’t be denied.
Naomi commented that Caitlin & Will are the type of act that you wish you could go see every Friday night in a club around the corner. I’m happy to say my wife and I have had that pleasure (or at least half that pleasure)several times. On a stormy night we went to see Caitlin in a little bar on the other side of the Chesapeake Bay. The storm had knocked out the power, but Caitlin sang for two hours acapella by the light of the emergency exit sign. The crowd was small but everybody stayed. Caitlin’s mom also has a beautiful voice. She had recently had surgery for breast cancer and this was her first night out. Caitlin and her mom sang a duet that had tears running own our faces. Last night’s show had much the same effect for us but we’ll never forget that night by the Bay with Caitlin and her mom.
Thanks for putting together a class television series. Well done!

I loved the “Can You Duet” series and looking forward to future shows. However, if possible, could we keep the focus on country music. There are so many other shows out there for the rockers and pop singers. I agree with a number of the previous comments in regard to Brownell & Richey. Yes, they are very talented, but they are not a country duet. I believe the winning contestants should stay country throughout the series. I also am not interested in the screaming rockers as you can’t understand what they are saying half the time. I go to CMT versus MTV for a reason…Country Music. I agree Will & Caitlin were the best choice.

    Naomi,

I think you did a good job as a judge, and it must have been extremely difficult with so many people there with their hopes and dreams on their sleeves. People may beat you up about the Coppolas, but I understood what you meant when you said it, because I agree….it’s not personal character, but stage character, presence or charisma lacking in their performances. Lovely ladies, lovely voices, but they couldn’t hold my attention very long.

Obviously Rory and Joey are very special people with great talent. There were times when they were so “in” to each other onstage I felt as if I were intruding to the point it was almost painful to watch. What a great pair.

I wish them all well, but I was pulling for Caitlin and Will and I’m glad they won.

I am very happy for Caitlyn and Will, YES I LOVE JOEY and RORY too because the ARE WHAT COUNTRY IS ALL ABOUT. I am so disappoined that Wild Honey left before the Cappola’s, those girls were nasty, and yes NO CHARACTER!!!!!!! Brownell & Richey are definetly NO COUNTRY and yes they were good for rock. The judges you were great and it has always beed a dream of mine to be a backup singer or to be in a country music video, I am proud of the judges it is a hard job. But when you have the best you get the best in return.. Can’t wait to get a CD of Caitlyn and Will AND Joey and Rory!!!! God Bless you all… SEe ya next season. Congrats from ALASKA.

I have never been so disappointed as when the Cappola twins were voted off.I think Naomi just had it in for them from the beginning. I am totaly discusted with her,Iam no longer a big fan of hers.I think they did better than Brownell&Richey,I also think Joey& Rory should have been gone long ago.Rory didn’t actually do any singing until they were fighting for the final three.I think Naomi new who was going to stay right from the beginning. I will never watch can you duet again.

Great decision judges!! You definitely went with the most pure talent. I thought Rory and Joey might have been picked because they were Naomi’s favorite - I did not see it! Caitlyn’s voice is superior to the other female singers in the competition and Will has a unique edgy voice that brings a rocker sound to country music. Congratulations to Caitlyn and Will - I can’t wait to buy your first CD!

I am so very disappointed that a show that professed to be looking for a great “country” duo didn’t choice the only truly country duo there. And they certainly deserved to win based on their consistency throughout the program. I will definitely hope that Joey and Rory end up with a CD from someone and it may, indeed, be a good thing that they are not tied to a Sony contract. That said, I am glad that if they couldn’t win, Catlin and Will did. I will have to say, of all the music shows I have seen lately, this show had some of the most talented folks I have seen in awhile.

Loved the show. I thought Naomi was very disrespectful to the Capolla twins.I don’t think Naomi was qualified to judge the show in the first place as she had no very little talent and never would have got a second glance without Wynonna. Naomi idea of performing during a Judd show was to sway back and forth and mumble a bit of harmony(I use that term loosely)while Wynonna was the star of the act. I was disappointed with the outcome but I believe they are all worthy of a career in country music.
I was hoping for the Capolla’s (first place) and Joey and Rory (second place). I won’t watch again if Naomi Judd isa judge.

I know that you, Naomi and Ami and Brett have made a very tough decision and I think it was absolutely the right decision. I would have been disappointed if Brownell and Richie had won. I don’t like them at all and it is partly attitude and likeability. They are, however, talented if you like their style.

Caitlyn and Will have it all. It’s obvious Will was soaking up every piece of criticism positive or negative and that he can be worked with easily.

Joey and Rory are also excellent. For me it was between them and Caitlyn and Will until the last song they sang.

Great job! Great show! I hope that there is a next season and that the judges remain the same. Naomi, you did sound too tough at times but always truthful and real. The best kind of criticism for growth. I liked it.

And if Joey and Rory are worried about their marriage standing up to the public life, just look to Tim and Faith….have faith in each other and God…you can’t go wrong.

Certainly Caitlin & Will demonstrated sensational talent. I was rooting for them all the way and they upped their game at a crucial time which rocketed them into the top spot. I was thrilled. Caitlin & Will won fair and square and when they sang “Love Is”, it literally brought me to tears. I am so happy for all who performed as it, I am sure, was a dream come true. I too believe that Joey and Rory deserve a record contract. I would definately buy theirs as well. I can’t wait for Caitlin and Will’s to come out. I will have that one on the top of my stack. I almost turned off my TV when J&R took 3rd place. K&W were my pick to win it all but B&R had no business being in the competition. I was so afraid of a repeat of “So You Want to be a Country Star” with Rich (of Big and Rich) when they picked the least qualified singer. Although K&W are edgy for Country Music, their freshness and style should take them all the way. I can’t wait to see what a “team” can do with them and their talents. J&R, the only true Country singers left have a bright future also. But not to the levels that K&W bring. Kuddos to a wonderful show that is really not even my musical taste. But I’m learning…

I was a Joey and Rory fan from the beginning and felt that they should and would win. I also learned to like and admire Catlin and Will, but felt they were more rock than country. I also turned my TV off and did not watch the finish after Joey and Rory were eliminated and will never watch “Can You Duet” again, not because they did not win, but because Brownell & Richey were not eliminated before the Coppola twins. Brownell & Richey are not country and if they can come in second in a country music competition, do not call it country, call it something else. I have always been taught that honesty is the best policy. Please let’s keep it honest. Naomi, your criticism of the Coppola twins was much too harsh, cruel and unnecessary. You could have accomplished the same result in a much nicer, kinder manner and would not have lost so many fans. You have written books, we have read them, and know that you can communicate without being cruel. Was it personal????

Naomi, I admire what you all did as judges. I could not have been a judge on the night of the finale. Each duo had something special and remarkable about them. I would have had a hard time deciding.

I was in the audience for the finale and it was an amazing night. Joey and Rory were great, (I was also there the night Wild Honey got cut and J&R sang “Cheater Cheater”) but Caitlin and Will absolutely electrified the crowd. There was something commanding about them on that stage that you couldn’t take your eyes off of them or turn away. It was the most powerful performance I have ever experienced. I have no doubt that J&R will have a career in the industry. They were a fabulous duo but when you stacked up all the elements needed to make a great artist, Cait and Will had them all. All of the finalists were deserving, but I look forward to the release of Caitlin and Will’s first project.

This was great television. When does the next season start?

It was hard for me too, I wanted Joey and Rory, but Caitlin and Will just blew me away. Their powerful, from the gut style and sound is just amazing and I loved them. Joey and Rory remind me of a “loving” version of George and Tammy. I’m sure they will do well after the publicity of the show. They deserve a contract too. Anyway, loved!!! the show and thanks for the entertainment.

I just knew Caitlin and Will would walk away with it. It happened to a couple of the nicest people. Also fans of Joey and Rory. Two more really great people. Brownell and Ritchie and the twins will have great futures in country music. But Caitlin and Will rock!! I’m very sorry to say I will NOT miss Naomi as a judge. I realize she has had the strength to overcome tremendous obstacles and she has been a talented recording artist, but as a judge, I found her to be extremely prejudiced, overtly biased, and bordering on cruel in her criticisms. Did no one else notice her blatant flirtations with the guys and her nearly obsessive hatred of the blond twins? Surely not everyone else was that oblivious. Brett Manning was the only consistently fair and objective judge on that show.

I watched the show a couple of times. I had no favorites and really did not care who won. I am totally baffled as to how Judd was chosen as a judge. I was a huge fan of her daughters. I think the mom was a joke. I never saw her do anything except attempt to dance all over the stage and act like a fool. Her attempt at harmonizing was painful to listen to. I guess that qualifies her to critique people with real talent and she isn’t any better at that than she was at singing. Kudos to Wynona for dumping her.

I wasn’t able to watch the final show. Just got on the CMT website to see who won. Happy for Caitlin and Will but to me their music was more on the rock side with just a twist of country. Couldn’t believe the boys came in second. To me they were totally rock and roll. Now Joey and Rory were the ones I was for. There sweetness, love for each other, love for country music - in my eyes they had it all. I know I didn’t see their last performance. But C&W blew it several times, and so did the boys. But Joey and Rory had it everytime (except maybe the last time by all the above comments). This shouldn’t have stop them from WINNING. My husband starting watching this with me and we BOTH were for Joey and Rory.. Hey, recording studiossss whereever you are PLEASE sign up Joey and Rory and place them on tour. My husband and I would buy their CD and come to a concert. PLEASE HURRY!!! OH make sure the tour comes to Tulsa, Oklahoma. We will be sure to get tickets!!! We will miss seeing the every week. Hey CMT how about creating an Country show weekly for them to host called the Joey and Rory show!! Love you Joey and Rory keep your heads up high. You really are loved out here!! After their performance in the final 4, I wasn’t surprised that Caitlin and Will won the whole thing. They blew me away with their passion that they brought to the song. And when they sang “Stupid Boy” with just as much passion, it was over for the rest. Joey + Rory were also my favorites but they had a wrong song choice in the final 3 and I think that is what got them eliminated. I wish they would of given viewers a choice to vote on the finals. Who knows if the results would be different.

Thank goodness that Brownell & Richey did not win. I believe they should have been on an MTV show for the next greatest act. Judges, come on, the show was about country music’s greatest duet. They never should have been in the top four. While a like my country with an upbeat tempo, Joey & Rory displayed a true country style. The final two should have been Joey & Rory and Caitlyn & Will. Both duos will do great. Caitlyn & Will were our favorites just because of the obstacles that they had to overcome. It was great watching them go from perfect strangers to winning the contest. If they put that much hard work into their CD it will be awesome!

Okay, for next season, bring Brett back as a judge, but please get the hair out of your eyes. I could not ever decide if I liked Aimee as a judge, but she is definitely better than Naomi. I always felt like Naomi was putting on an act to keep herself in the spotlight. She was automatically prejudiced against young pretty girls.

I liked songwriting night, but let’s add a ballad night and a country two step night. Ballad night will highlight vocals and should make you want to slow dance. Country two step night will make sure all duos can do a country dance song. If any duo does more than one rocking perfomance they should be eliminated. If I want to watch that crap I would be watching MTV! Come on CMT, good season one, but let’s have a great season two!

Joey and Rory were my husband’s favorites because they sounded like “real” country but we all know that if they had won their sound would change forever. Caitlin and Will have the best voices, and I can’t believe what they accomplished in just a few short weeks…it’s amazing! Can you imagine what they will sound like after a year or two together? Naomi, I have never been a fan of country music. There are a few songs that I have liked but for the most part I have never been attracted to it. This show has impressed me like no other like it, though. That other American Idol show…you know…American Idol (itself) could learn something from the quality of judging I saw from your panel. While I know you were hard on the Coppola’s your criticism was spot on and I don’t know if they will ever truly understand what it was you were trying to tell them. You either have soul or you don’t and they didn’t have it, yet.

Caitlin and Will had it in spades. It wasn’t until the second to the last show that they got it under control, but when they did…oh my! I am not an emotional person but “Stupid Boy” choked me up to the point where I couldn’t tell my wife how blown away I was. The finale’ was less conclusive, but I think you made the best choice. My only hope is that Caitlin and Will can stay together long enough to make something of it…they are just incredible together.

I can’t believe none of the comments have not included anything about Jeremiah and Nick, whom were THE BEST!
SERIOUSLY, when it comes to marketability, doing concerts, etc., they fit the bill to a “t”..they were my #1 favorites, then Will and Caitlin who are also VERY GOOD yes..for a guy/girl duet, Caitlin is blessed to have such an awesome voice for someone so young, they are both the same age, can you believe it? Hmmm…I suppose that was part of the “set-up” .. and Will’s voice is awesome, too he reminds me of a young Bob Seger., and she of Stevie Nicks.
I fail to see “country” in any of that though, as a matter-of-fact, most of the contestants, in my opinion, (except for Rory & Joey) failed to resemble what I consider to be “Country Music”..which I THOUGHT was the whole idea behind this competition *scratching head*
I do believe that the last 3 of the competing duo’s should ALL get recording contracts., they each had something for someone out there that will buy their music!

Our entire family watched from start to finish. We taped the last two shows on DVR. We have watched them over and over. I have cried and been covered in chill bumps each and every time I have heard Caitlin and Will sing the song originally done by Tim and Faith. (Caitlin and Will also topped Tim and Faith on the song and that is almost impossible) We were die-hard fans of Joey and Rory up until that performance and we knew that Caitlin and Will had totally nailed it. That was an impossible act to follow. We still love Joey and Rory and hope to see a CD out from them as well in the near future. As previously said above, I would love to be riding down the road with “Cheater- Cheater” blaring on the stereo. I went around the house singing it for days. They are the real deal and pure country. I can easily see them ranked right up there with the all time greats like George and Tammy and Conway and Loretta. They are a true example that there is still true love and compassion today and that authentic country still exsists.
Best of luck to all of you.

We would buy their CD as soon as it hit the stores. I grew up on Country Music and they represent everything that is Country. Their original song “Cheater Cheater” should be on the radio. I am still singing it. Their love and devotion is pure and inspiring. I wish them the best of luck. They desreve all of the great things that, I know, will come their way. On the other hand, I am happy for Caitlyn and Will. They worked extremely hard and they deserve their success. They too were humble and kind. We loved the show and hope to see another season. My favorite duo throughout the show was Joey & Rory until I saw Caitlin & Will sing the song by Tim & Faith. It blew me away! After that I was torn about who should win. Im getting tired of the 80’s and 90’s big hair rockers that can no longer sell music to their fans come over to the country side too make a little more money. Though not my style I hope that

    Naomi,

I just love you. I have from the start of The Judds, in the early 80s, seeing 8 1/2 x 11 copied flyer on my local laundry mat’s window advertising an appearance at a nearby honky tonk. The black and white, grainy photograph radiated beauty and class, and after 20 years you have never disappointed me. (However, you did come close when you said the the Coppolas had no character, but your apology seems sincere and heartfelt).

All the hoopla over traditional country reminds of my parents talking about George Strait, Clint Black, etc. They believed that country music was changing too much. Whatever happened to the likes of Ernest Tubb, Hank Williams, Sr., Kitty Wells, etc. Simply, like everything else in our society things evolve and change. And luckily, they re-emerge. Ricky Skaggs stays true to Bluegrass. We still Rock-a-billy. Gospel music is present in much of country music. I love all genres of music. The only thing the I require some part to reach me. It may be the beat, the lyrics, the harmony, the artist, or even something inexplicable, but it has to touch me personally.

With all that said, I loved the show, the contestants, the judges, the format, and the outcome. I am positive there will be more success stories than the top three to emerge from the show. I love the idea of a medium to showcase untapped talent that allows the public to see the process, work, and dedication it takes to become an artist.

    Thank you for sharing.

    Love and Peace,

    Toni

Come on…have you folks not hear of country rock? Funny how some of the most successful singers and duets have a “rock” sound. For example, Brooks and Dunn, Montgomery Gentry, Tim McGraw, Garth Brooks, and the late Chris LeDoux. My vote was for B&R…lets hope they get a contract, or America will be missing out on two great artists.

I’m sorry. I thought that Joey and Rory were cute but marketable? Not so much. I’d buy maybe one or two sappy CD’s but they certainly wouldn’t be someone that I would want to go watch at a concert. Traditional country? Yes. Appealing to the next generation of listeners? I don’t think so. Their story is great and their “Sadie Hawkins” outfits were different but the purpose of the show was to find the next country duet to sing, perform, and sell music.

Brownell and Richey represent the kind of music that country fans want to hear. They are easy on the eyes, full of energy (albiet it somewhat full of themselves, too) and I think that should be allowed when you are that young, good looking and talented. They are tuly performers and would be well worth the cost of CD’s AND concert tickets.

The right group was chosen as the winners. Caitlin and Will are everything that is great about the other two groups. Good at the sappy love songs and yet energetic and enormously talented. They run oposite of the current “perfect” looking country music stars (with which the Copolla’s would have fit right in!). They are individuals who are comfortable enough in their own skin to break out of the current image of a “star” mode and just be themselves. They are awesome together and have the opportunity to create a new venue for Country Music. I can’t wait to see where the road to stardom takes them!

Normally not a reality TV or Idol watcher, I was sucked in this season and look forward to another stellar season. Great show. Great choice.

When I heard Kaitlin and Will sing “Like we never loved at all” I KNEW they would win. And when Brett gave them a standing ovation I got tears in my eyes.

Their voices are so rich and speak to every emotion….and isn’t there something magical about two perfect strangers being placed together as a duet and THEY WON!!!

Thanks for the show..it was pure entertainment all the way through!!!

    Naomi,

Nice of you to apologize to the Coppolas. I have to be honest and say that I wanted to slap you through my TV at times by some of the mean and hurtful remarks you made to them over the course of the show. You liked them in their audition and it seemed you turned on them and became almost vicious in your attacks on them week in and week out. And when they finally did something you liked, you could barely spit out the words to compliment them. It was very disheartening. I think you held it against them that they are pretty blondes. I didn’t want to like them and was upset when the Herndon twins were cut earlier on, but the Coppolas won me over as a fan with their original song and I’ve never looked back.

I am having a hard time liking you, Naomi, and I almost didn’t even watch the show after hearing you publicly and immaturely make hurtful gossipy remarks about David Archuleta’s dad. Do you even realize that is also hurtful to David? You sounded like an immature school girl both on the Today Show and the red carpet interview for the CMT Awards. To me, it all seemed like a pathetic attempt to get some publicity for your new show. You need to stop and think before you speak Miss Judd because you come across as a jealous, catty school girl by the remarks you make on TV and it does you no favors, nor does it win you any new fans. Perhaps you should think about what kind of parent you were before publicly trashing other stage parents. You don’t exactly have the best reputation.

I hope Naomi will not be back again ever judging a show. She was on another show and was cruel to kids singing. She was not fair at all and showed her favortism all the time. Congrats to Caitlyn and Will. Can’t wait to buy your album. I do think the negative comments about the Coppolas will help them in the future.

Caitlin and Will are the “Perfect Duet” and I am so glad that they won! I do have to say that I enjoyed Joey and Rory but Joey appeared to be more of the “duet” than the both of them together.
I do admire Naomi, however, it was very disappointing to see that side of her that was NOT very TACTFULL when she addressed The Coppolas as not having any character. Naomi has been in the business long enough to know what the word “TACTFULL” should mean and should know by now how to apply it professionaly. Some people need to remember that they too, put their pants on one leg at a time and that God has the power to knock some people off of their pedestal.

I’m not goin to lie - I’m glad Brownell & Richie didn’t win…they weren’t really country to me - and they seemed really fake - there’s only so much that you can go on, by your looks.

I was disappointed that Joey & Rory didn’t win - but I’m glad they’ve got an album out! I can’t wait to get it!

I’m really glad that the underdogs won - plus it wasn’t based on looks….love love love them! (almost as much as joey & rory!)

I agree with Naomi about the Cappola’s - they didn’t have much “flavor” to them - or enough to keep me interested - I think I only really liked one song that they sang - but they had very good voices - just not an album I’m looking forward to….

I thought the four finalists were all great in their own ways. They each had unique talent that would appeal to different groups.. like apples and oranges. So it would be hard to say who was “best”, since they were hard to compare.. all of them should put out CD’s! I really hope that Naomi won’t be a judge on future shows. Her rudeness and cruel remarks to the twins was painful to watch. Instead of helping them, I think her destructive comments were so unnerving that it’s amazing that they had the gumption to get up there week after week. It shows how classy and professional they were - unfortunately the opposite of how Naomi behaved. Congrats to Caitlyn and Will!

Naomi, I never for a minute thought you were rude- you were the star and teacher as well as judge. I think only the Coppolas had a problem with being criticized; I think this is why they couldnt evolve as the others did. Somewhere along the line, they thought they were a finished product. I missed the humility of the others in them. It was a CONTEST- why should a judge apologize?
Caitlin and Will did something to me- and I am not a typical concert goer or star gazer but they touched somethng and they were the right choice. The sweetnes of Caitlin responding on message boards, the flush on Will’s cheek. The look, the whole thing.
Rory and Joey were real country singers and a fantastic duo. Someone had to win- they are all winners and all should continue with great careers. Brownell and Richie have lots of stage appeal. Charming and talented. But caitlin and Will were the difference and they deserved to be #1. This show was a pleasure for me, as were you, Brett, and Amy. An upscale show without any true unnecessary drama except where some wanted to fabricate it.

The best observation by the judges is when Brett said “America needs this” about Joey and Rory. I’d like to add that Country Music needs this. Any long time country fan knows why. When Will and Caitlin won, I was totally shocked. I’ve become so accustomed to rockers being force fed to us as country for the sake of sales that I figured the judges would choose Brownell & Richie. I’m hard core country but appreciate many kinds of music. Brownell & Richie were great & I’d go see them in concert, but they ain’t country….. or my definition of it anyways. Would have loved for Joey & Rory to pull out a George & Tammy or Conway & Loretta for the last show. Will and Caitlin- Love you guys. Work hard. Hope to hear you do some traditional country and southern rock. Hope you have a lot of success.

I felt from the moment Caitlin & Will were put together that they would take the final prize…..the “kick butt” gal paired with the “teddy bear” young man. I like that combo! I felt that Caitlin had the best voice of all the females and at first, I thought that this alone would most likely carry Will to the top with her. But, as time went on Will proved his own style and merit to be number one right along with her. I enjoyed watcing him evolve. Will and Caitlin compliment each other. I love this duet couple.

As a country clogger who has competed in numerous dance competitions and performed in many exhibitions, I know what it means to dedicate yourself to working with a duet partner and I understand the hard work that goes into the process of growth taking place — each little step at a time. I think this couple has what it takes to move forward with a successful career together. Congratulations Caitlin & Will. I will most definately be buying your music and ya’ all make me well up in tears at the beauty of your voices working together.

And folks, lighten up on Naomi. It’s not easy being placed in a position to pick only one from a group of so much talent. Not only have I danced in clogging competitions, but I have judged a few and it’s tough to be consistently honest and straight forward with the competitors. You have to take so much into consideration and often there is a fine line with who will win or lose because it is absolutely that close. I personally think Naomi was a great pick to judge. Some of you feel she was a little harsh with one or two comments, but her honesty was right there for pulic display in a tough competition that absolutely could not be all sugar coated. For heavens sake, she has traveled the very road these young hopefuls are just starting out on. Who better to judge something like this than someone who has been there/done that. For those of you who are upset with her harshness towards the Cappola’s, perhaps you should take into consideration that her blundt honesty will most likely be the very catalyst that pushes the twins onward and upward with raw determination. And honestly, I do have to agree that they just did not have a distinct blend and I personally would not want to listen to a complete CD of their music right now (as Naiomi said herself). But, do I think the Cappola’s will never make it — heck no — I feel they will take the constructive criticism they recieved and they will turn it around and be right up there on top. Were they my favorites of the last four — no, I think the top three were the right choices. But, I believe the twins will keep at it and we will hear from them again — bigger and better than ever. They just seem to have that determination.

Naomi, YOU ROCK and those of you who think her job was easy just because she already is a star need to think again and try to comprehend what a tough job all three of the judges had. I love you Naomi, I think you were honest, gracious and fair in your judgement of this season’s duets and I hope you will be back next season.

Can You Duet — Great show, terrific judges, a wealth of talent and THE BEST DUET WON. Thanks for an exciting competition…..I have been thorougly entertained.

I’m not much of a country fan — I married one 16 years ago, but I have only about dozen CDs total. However, I have been to a few concerts and have enough music knowledge to be an amateur judge.

I want to second some of the complaints that there isn’t much C in this “CMT” series. Even if you count folk and bluegrass in addition to the traditional country (southern, rural, white working class), there wasn’t much on this show. I suppose there are some who consider early Shania Twain as country but without the music videos you couldn’t tell it from the CDs.

Of the final four, J&R were the only ones that were consistently a country act –an updated Johnny and June but without the personal tragedy (and self-inflicted pain). The improbable pairing of Caitlin & Will makes a great story but they never did it for me; one of the judges said you have to be likable to make it in country, and Caitlyn has even more of an attitude problem than Gretchen Wilson (who has a lot more talent).

So I hope Joey & Rory get a contract somewhere. Maybe if they tour 300 days/year they’ll get some more pain to sing about, since it seems as though their happiness has been working against them. And perhaps the Coppolas will take their folk act to the Denver club scene.

I absolutely believe that the most talented duo won the Can You Duet? competition. Joey and Rory were so “old-school country” that they came off as one dimensional and after awhile became quite boring. I don’t see how they could hold an audience’s attention throughout a concert or an entire CD unless they found a way to liven things up. And I was also quite disappointed in their final performance, and I think they took themselves out of the competition. Caitlin and Will, on the other hand, just got better and better as the weeks went on. Caitlin’s voice and range is amazing. She brings an edge to “country” that I believe will separate she and Will from the herd. Also, I was impressed with Will’s growth and great guitar playing. They can do it all.

As far as Brownell and Richey, they’re style is representative of many of the country rock bands I have heard. They need a lot of work on their vocals and most of all their harmonies (you can’t scream your way into success). I feel it is okay to be cocky and confident if you have the talent to back it up, but not okay if it is based solely on looks. The Coppolas suffer from the same affliction. As someone else noted in their comments above, I too felt that the Herndon twins were more talented and was disappointed when they were eliminated so early.

If I had been a judge, I would have come to the same final conclusion and named Caitlin and Will winners. However, my top five would have been different. I have been a singer for years, singing both lead and harmony, and I play the piano and guitar by ear. I was appalled at how badly some of the final contestants were on holding pitch and actually harmonizing with their partner. That is when I screamed at my TV. Singing harmony takes a special talent and not everyone can do it.

Congrats to Caitlin and Will. Anyone who thinks they should not have won should go back and listen, really listen, to their performances of “Like We Never Loved At All” and “Stupid Boy”. I think you’ll change your mind.

Hmm…. I didn’t notice that attitude in Caitlyn, I thought she came across as sweet. And Will just made me cry almost every week with his humbleness as he thanked the judges. All three of their last songs just blew my husband and I away. We got chills and almost couldn’t speak while listening to them. They were the best and certainly deserved to win. I just hope they keep that sweetness about them.

We have really enjoyed the show and have come to know and love each of the judges. Brett is our favorite! Please have another season and I echo a comment from above, keep it family friendly!

What a great show - I started watching a bit “late” … when the groups were being whittled down to 25 duos but I instantly had some favorites and became fans of all the duos.
Between the talent of the performers and the great mix of the judges - this was a great show.
I really have to credit the judges for assembling such an extraordinary group of talent and nuturing them.
I enjoyed all of the duo performances and based on who I’m watching re-plays of “most” will look forward most to buying Brownell & Richey and Wild Honey CD’s - but will be looking for everyone on the radio.
    Thank you!

I loved the show, and I have always loved Naomi, but the show is still under the American Idol wing therefore they weren’t going to have judges that would be to kind and agree on everything but what I most loved about the show was that the judges judged and it wasn’t based on phone calls from fans. I was actually shocked when after all these years I found out Idol lets you vote nonstop for 2 hours, that makes it just a popularity contest.
That aside I rooted for Rory and Joey from the first time they opened there mouths and each week Caitlin and Will grew on me, I do believe the judges made the right choice and I believe Caitlin is country she just looks like she rocks but when they sang Tim and Faith’s Like we never loved at all I was sold on them to win and when they did Stupid Boy I was even more blown away.
Would I go see a Joey and Rory concert, yes especially if I was looking to have a romantic night, but I really think that Caitlin and Will if they are smart can have a really great career as a duet.
Rory is a writer, he has written number one songs the doors that weren’t open before I think have swung wide open for them now and they too will have a great career together as singers ahead of them.

Looks like several viewers feel the same as I in the fact that I am hugely disappointed that Joey and Rory did not win. I surely hope that someone recognizes their talent and gives them that record contract they deserve, I know I for one will be buying it.
As for the judging of the show however, unfortunately IF the performances are judged as they are supposed to be on that ONE performance, not the prior ones, the judging was correct in cutting Joey and Rory because unfortunately that wasn’t their best performance. However, they DID give B&R a chance to go on when their one performance bombed based on their priors, therefore Joey and Rory should of made it through. Caitlin and Will, although I wasn’t that impressed with them at first, they really wheeled me in the last three performances and even gave me chills. So, all and all at the end of the night I was disappointed, I was at least happy that Caitlin and Will got their chance. Out of everyone in the show I would have to agree that they have made the most improvement, they’ve come a long way and for that, they deserve to win.
Now, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE someone out there listen to the viewers that want a contract for Joey and Rory!!!!! Give them what they deserve!!!!!

I absolutely loved watching Can You Duet!! Cant wait until the next season either!
I have to say that Joey and Rory were my favorite, but I was VERY impressed with Caitlin and Will as well! Simply because I prefer traditional country music over most of todays country, however i do enjoy most of today’s
    country.
The chemistry Joey and Rory have together made me just as emotional as when Caitlin and Will sang. Joey and Rory’s chemistry was true and real, where Caitlin and Will’s was theatrical, but still very emotional! (I guess it was thatrical, who knows, maybe they have something stirring…:)
Aimee said it best when she said that Joey and Rory pulled her into their little dream when they sang “Young Love”. That is how I felt every time I would see them, and even now as I watch their performances online. I truly hope someone gives them a contract, because i KNOW, that i KNOW they would be able to make it big! This fan wants “TO EAT THEM UP” as Naomi put it! LOL

Come on Nashville, someone step up and give them a big fat contract…they deserve it and America does need this!

I also wish the best for the ones who made it to the finals, and hope to hear that they make it someday as all were very talented.

Obviously everyone has their own perspective. That said, I think it was awesome that the right duo won. Go Will! Go Caitlin! I definitely want them to go Country, but that doesn’t mean it has to sound like the ’40s. Joey and Rory were a close second for me during much of the contest but during the last two episodes I think the best duo was just too obvious. My wife and I would love to see more of Joey and Rory but honestly, I don’t think his heart was in it and she definitely did not do as well at the end. As much as I’d love to buy a CD of them or even see them in concert, I see them on a smaller stage and can’t imagine them doing many albums as a duo.
Regarding Brownell and Richie, I’m sure we’ll see more of them, but in my opinion they just didn’t stack up compared to other male country duo’s like Big and Rich and Brooks and Dunnne.

Congratulations Caitlin and Will. Can’t wait to see you in concert.

To all of you who think that Naomi was too harsh on the Copppolas, she was dead on. They were too show boaty. However, one of them had a humbleness about her, but the other thought she’s was all that. Not good. They should have been booted off well before Wild Honey. Naomi was right in saying there was no distinction between their voices. She should know. She was the harmony in the Judds. Duh!

I was rooting for Cait from day one. As soon as I saw her, her voice and “rockish” image look made me envy her but in a totally good way. She sings amazingly! And Will. Ahhh Will. When I first saw him audition “sweet teddy bear” came to my mind. I also was touched by his voice once I first heard it. They make an awsome duo and they disereved to win this! I can NOT WAIT until the CD’s come roaring out cause thats the 1st thing hittin my ipod! lol

    To the other duets:
The Double C Twins you guys also rocked I LOOOVED your voices were awsommmmmmmmmme!

Rory+Joey: Your sincereness(sp?) when you guys sing is amazing and you know that. I got chills EVERYTIME I heard you two sing and I know that the road doesn’t end here for you two! Get a manager and start makin those country cd’s!

Brownell and Richie.. you guys are hot. Nuff said lol Even though I loved your voices you wern’t my favorite BUT I still believe that you two should also get with someone and make cd’s cause you two rock.

Wild Honey. Even though you guys didn’t make it to the top 3 I love your music alot. I seriously do. I love your sound so much and “What love looks like” is my favorite song ever in the world! I went to go google it cause I thought it was a record labeled song and nothing was coming up and then I found out that you two wrote it and I was like WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! AWSOME!(I know I say that too much lol)

I think everyone that I listed truely deserves to get their own Cd out if not already cause I think our country loves you!

ONCE AGAIN TO CAIT AND WILL!!!! I WAS ROOTING FOR YOU GUYS SINCE DAY ONE AND IM SO GLAD YOU 2 WON! CAIT I WANT YOUR VOICE! WILL…I WANT YOU lol I have work on Fridays and even if there were repeats I’ve never came upon them so I’d miss it! And last night (6/16) It was so late at night and my head was nudging and I fell asleep right b4 they announced the winner! lol well anyway I hope you guys rock the house with your country style and get a big tour set up if not already cuz I’m gonna be right in that front row goin CRAZY! Yes Joey and Rory were a very sweet love story, and both of them are extraordinarily talented, Stop crying about Joey and Rory, they probably have already gotten a record deal, and if they havent I am certain it is just around the corner for them. As far as I am concerned Browenell and Richy were great.
What people don’t seem to understand Country today is part rock and roll and Country. What do they think Elvis Presley was he was not all country.

Browenell and Richy keep you cockness and keep doing what you are doing. You performed great I was so disappointed that you did not win. Catlin and Will are not country they are Rock and Roll. Especially Catlin. She looks like a biker. No way are they country. The Capollas were lousy from the first time they went on and never changed.
Look also at the Judds they were not all country. They were country and Wayonna was a rocker. I really think these programs that have judges know exactly who is going to win from the beginning.

Browenell and Richey keep up you singing and you will go far. You got my vote from the beginning. You are great to watch and have great talent.

    Good Luck in the future.

WAY TO GO Caitlin & Will!! CONGRATULATIONS!! You bring tears to my eyes and goosebumps all over when you two sing together. In fact, I cannot get enough “Stupid Boy”….I have watched your video on “youtube” over and over, again and again. You are refreshing and humble, and will go a long way in the business. Please keep making beautiful music together.

I always admired Naomi Judd. Always thought she was so precious and adored her daughters BUT lost all respect for her at the way she treated the Coppola twins. Will never listen to another one of her songs and never have any respect for her again. Cannot believe I ever thought so much of her in the past. So disappointed to find out that she is such a fake.

Naomi…you ROCK!! You are the only one with the guts to tell the Coppola twins the truth. I agree with Rhonda…not much talent on Nashville Star. Bring back Joey and Rory. I can’t get enough of them!!!! Did they sign with a record company yet. I want their CD!!

First of all I want to say GREAT SHOW! There is nothing on tv that I will make a point to be home and watch every week. I didn’t miss five minutes of the competition.
I was, and am, a huge fan of Joey and Rory. They were my favorite throughout the show!! TRUE COUNTRY STARS!!! I would go WAY out of my way, pay any price, to see them live. However, in the last two weeks, Katlin and Will elevated them selves to the top. The ONE performance, as Amy said, was the best we saw hands down! I was SO pleased to see them win after that.
I would have liked to seen Joey and Rory have one more shot (song). They were my overall favorite. I will watch them on U-tube video until they make it.

WOW!!! I really loved Joey and Rory! I thought they had it hands down, but i guess not. Caitlyn and Will were my second favorite but i just thought they didnt sound country at all, more rock. I have to admit i was very upset when Joey and Rory were eleminated, i absolutly loved them, they were the real deal, and i dont know why they didnt win!

I have never been so disappointed in my life of watching any talent show. I know there could only be one winner but since this is a COUNTRY TV station looks like we should have been looking for a country duet. Caitlin and Will were great but a little rocking. I can almost live with that. There is no way i could send Brownell and Ritchie finishing 2ND. HOW is that possible if there is a country bone in anyone Joey and Rory is the only country that was on the stage. How could anyone let them walk off the stage and not have a record deal? Nashville must be asleep to have such talent living there and look over them. I don’t know if I want to drive through Nashville or not there seems to be to many blind people there and they may be on the road. Thanks to CMT for a great show you had me all the way till the end and it was like a great movie where the star dies and we all cry. I hope Joey and Rory get a record deal somehow because I would love to hear them on the radio and in my cd player. They sing from the heart and to listen to country music you listen with your heart and thats what they do they open your heart.

Talk about humility. Go to speakerheart.com and listen to the Rory Feek cd. He has as good or better voice than Joey. Something is strange here. They were the most talented duo on the program. For some reason they held back. Those two could be the greatest country duo of our time if they wanted to, possibly of all time!!!!

I have loved them since the the first few shows. Eventhough, I was kind of hoping for Joey and Rory to win! After their cover on Free Bird, I completely fell in love with them. They had something about them… Eventhough they didn’t win, they got alot of attention and I am SURE we will see them down the road. Congrats Caitlin and Will! Can’t wait to hear you guys on the Radddiiioo!! Whoooo!

OK…Naomi’s masseuse lives next door to Joey and Rory. Word must have gotten out and CMT was scared of a big scandal….”Cheater, Cheater” That is the only thing that makes any sense. Joey and Rory (Love his voice, too) were clearly the best duet and everyone’s favorite. Can’t wait for their CD.

  • Tim Jacobi says:

We’ve been had folks. It made for great television, but we’ve been had. The only explanation (it seems to me) is that Joey and Rory didn’t want the sony/bmg contract! If they did, I don’t think they needed the help of “Can You Duet”. I think they were put on the show for ratings; and it worked pretty well. What I don’t understand is that there must be people in Nashville who are familiar with them that knew they were holding back. Amy’s dissension played right into the whole thing. If you don’t know what I am talking about go to Speakerheart.com and listen to the Rory Feek cd. These two could have a recording contract any time they wanted one. I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with them not wanting to be famous. I totally understand!! What I am saying is that we’ve been had!

I was disappointed also that Joey & Rory did not win but Will & Catlin blew me away too. Would buy an album from both duos as well as Brownel & Richey. Can You Duet really brought some talent on!!! I would like to try out myself, my husband & I have so many songs of our own but no money to go anywhere with them-po folks in MS,LOL. Joey & Rory made George & I think that was us up there. We have that passion for each other and our music. How do you try out for this show. Ddon’t even care to win just get our songs out there. We have some music I could them doing great with!!!

OMG Susan, I was just thinking the same thought as you - there are very few comments about Brownell and Richey. They were good, yes. Cute, yes. But country, no. Joey and Rory are PURE COUNTRY! I was pulling for them all the way. They are what Country music is all about. They are beautiful people as well as excellent musicians. They are genuine. I know that Joey let her nerves get to her on the last performance but she is still amazing! So beautiful and so unaffected by her beauty. I do believe that the world will be hearing from them again.

Naomi was an awful judge and frankly, showed her TRUE character by beating up on the Coppolas EVERY week..Naomi did not like that the girls were “clasicaly” trained..Naomi, I felt, was intimidated by them as she, Naomi came up hard and didn’t have that training…too bad for her. These girls had beautiful voices to match their beautiful faces. More importantly, didn’t any of you hear that song they wrote and performed?..It was great! How could you NOT see the talent in this duo. Joey and Rory were good but SO boring..seriously, SO bory. Brownell and Ritche were cocky and green and rock, not country..they should have been gone much earlier. Will and Catlin are a sweet pair and I do wish them success. Naomi really did real damage to her reputation by trashing the Copolla sisters. I truly have NO respect for Ms. Judd.

True country music fan love country music nd they don’t just listen to music they feel the music and you could feel the music when Joey and Rory were on the stage. The next time you listen to true country music listen with your heart not just with your ears. Then you will understand.

I liked The Cappollas and Joey and Rory. I was deeply touched when Joey and Rory sang, “Freebird,” because it was such a different perspective of the message of that song. The way they sung that song, I believe had it been the finale, they would have won. Hands down. Will and Caitlin are good, but I don’t really think they are good with each other. They might find better success on their own.

I liked Joey and Rory too, but to be honest, they were not a duet. There was only once in the entire series when he actually sung a verse by himself. Will & Catlin rightly won, as they both contributed. To be honest, the Judds, were never a true duet either. Naomi contributed very little. It was obvious that Wynonna was the real talent there. Naomi was just along for the ride, as she still is.

I have been in the music industry my ENTIRE life of 40 years. Caitlin and Will had what it took to carry it to the end. Their chemistry of being thrown together and their stamina is what brought it. I cried and had goose bumps and called it. Brownell and Richey were way to smug - talented but Naomi you called it - one is on it the other needed to tone it down. NOW…Joey and Rory - country, talented, very adorable and connected. HOWEVER, the last couple of shows they did not bring it to the table. I loved them as well, but just didn’t quite bring the DYNAMO that they should have or possibly could have. I think everyone loved them and saw they most definitely are what we all hope to see in our music industry and maybe someone will be smart enough to pick them up and give them the deal they deserve. But they did not pull it off at that time like Caitlin and Will. As far as Caitlin’s image, WHO CARES. I think the way a person looks should not say anything about how talented they are. Those two kids are hopefully gonna show us some wonderful and unexpected things. They are both young have very trainable and have many years to keep us soulfully happy. I wish all of the contestants the best of luck.

I feel that Joey and Rory should have one it all after all, this show was trying to find the next best COUNTRY duet and they were indeed country THEY ARE WHAT AMERICA NEEDS down to earth good hearted country folk. I belive someone will be getting a hold of them and we will be seeing an album from them soon. Yes Katlin and Will are also great sounding but I think that Joey and Rory just absolutly spell COUNTRY MUSIC. Also I do feel that Naomi was to hard on the Twins it was like she was aginst them just for being 2 pretty talented young women. On a final note best of luck to Joey & Rory and hope to hear your wonderful voices soon!

Naomi left alot to be desired as a Judge. She seemed to favor the duets that she put together and her interest in the young men (young enough to be her sons) bordered on perversion.
Naomi seemed to pick on the Coppola twins every chance she got. She had trouble saying anything nice to them even though they seemed very talented.

THE DEPTH OF THEIR CHARACTER, THEIR LOVE FOR ONE ANOTHER, AND THE QUALITY OF THEIR MUSIC IS RARE AND HARD TO FIND. J&R DESERVED FIRST PLACE AS A COUNTRY DUET, C&W SHOULD HAVE BEEN 2ND. PERIOD.
PLEASE DON’T CHOOSE ROCK AND ROLLERS SUCH AS B&R ANYMORE FOR THIS SHOW–IT DOESN’T MAKE ANY SENSE. THE COPOLLAS SHOULD HAVE BEEN ELIMINATED AGES AGO.

I’m not “surprised” that Will and Kaitlyn won. If you were watching closely on one show after a performance Kaitlyn had made a comment to Naomi ( while waiting to see if she was going to push them on to the next week) something like “come on Aunt Naomi” if you didn’t catch it re-watch the episodes. This was not a “fair” competition if they were related. I was never a fan of the two guys that were in the final 3, I thought they were rude and too full of themselves. As for the rest of the duos, most of them were good. Naomi was way too hard on the Copellia’s ( sp?) She didn’t like them because the were “cute” talented girls, as a “claimed to be” Christian Women she was NOT so “christian” to them.

Nashville is all about “who you Know” and very little about talent. Not that the winners don’t have talent, but it helps when your “related” to a judge.

I just loved watching the show. I was amazed at the wide range of talent and QUALITY of talent. I could hardly wait for each new episode and watched all of the reruns. lol I really loved the duos!! The judges did an outstanding job. I was pulling for Joey and Rory at first but they seemed to just stay the same. Each week I saw Catlin and Will grow and actually become partners. When they sang they sang not only to us but also to each other. Their voices blended much better than Joey and Rory and they had a better stage presence. The judges made the right choice. When they sang love ballets it seemed like they were really in love. I know they were just thrown together but it could happen. I saw what brought the judges to their final decision. Catlin and Will have a fresh carrisma that leaves you wanting more. They are definitely Super Stars and I am anticipating their albums!!!. Catlin and Will you ARE Country’s NEW DUO. Good Luck!! I am wiating for your albums.

I think Sugarland are real good artists. But there comment about the direction of county music is a insulting to me. Npr do I care for there new song Wpw 00000 Woo 00000 wow 00000 is stepping to far out of country. Her body movements ( And I no square) are to far away from what country is about. Nevermind this talk a change is coming. Don’t look to change what already molded true blooded American music. Your songs are mostly really good. Just watch the body movement. I’m sure your next album will be great. Your a great team. Remember, the heart and soul of country came from Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Merle haggard, Willie Nelson Lorreta Lynn and the mama of them. Mama MABLE CARTER, They didn’t have any hip swaying, or obnoxius movements. No offense to either member of Sugerland. Just my opinion about the annoying movements. Go Miranda
!!!!! Your perfect and don’t you even think of losing one ounce.

I waited in line in the freezing cold with my two granddaughters to audition for the show. Being from Florida, I have to say we were really cold, but we had so much fun on that trip. We were standing in line with Caitlin and were very impressed with her vocals, she had a female friend play the guitar but she did not make the show.
The night before the auditions we saw Bucky Covington and several other country stars entering a chariy event. Bucky was so cool he stopped his truck and took pictures with my granddaughters.
We are all looking forward to season two….

there are few words to say when it comes to joey and rori. they put the true emotional connection back into country. very few country artists can and ever will stand up to the songwwriter and singer in this couple. even the greats didn’t have what these two have. am i upset that they didn’t win. i was a bit for a few seconds. but they DID win. no contry producer who has seen or listened to their music can say they are not the root of all things country.

joey is not only a greatlooking singer, but her range and how she manages the lyrics of each song is no less than perfect. her stage presence is natural and her body talks as much as her voice does when she performs. she is a star.

rori is counrty to the bone. he emulates the down home feel. as an accomplished writer, he too carries his voice and stage presence i think, in exactly the way it should be. to change who they are, would be a sure fire way to go down the tubes.

so my hat is off to these two. i say thank god for two people who are solid as one love, and who can make a grown man feel the music to the very core of his soul.

when brooks and dunn came out with the video
believe”..it took all i had not to tear up..and tat song and video actually made me think about my relationship with god. joey and rori have far surpassed this because i get a lump of what i think is pride…every time i hear them. they are true people..the real deal. the LIFE in country..if i ever meet them..i would surely thank them for making a lasting impression not only on country music..but on mankind.

Anybody can sing a Love Ballad long notes you hold …. Joey and Rory were great, but when you watch and listen to Will and Caitlyn, Rory and Joey thats all they sang and excelled in. Country is about love, but people get tired of sad country ballads all the time. Brownell & Richie…. they are a marketable Duet, YOUNG, DRESSED RIGHT, and had stage persona, not to mention the look. All my friends and family said that they would pay 100-150 to see Brownell & Richie, but not for the others. The other two just had no on stage persona, just looking all puppy dog eyed at each other, no multi ranged voices. Yes when sing slow love songs, but when it can to fast beat, had to hit, change octave orthe song will blow you up,they choked and were horribly flat… I AM SO DISAPOINTED IN YOU (Naomi) AND THE JUDGES

But there was something unique, authentic and special about Joey and Rory that touched me. Joey’s voice is amazing, and the chemistry and harmony between her Rory is remarkable.

Got so carried away praising Joey and Rory, I forgot why I wanted to comment in the first place. I wanted to applaud you for publicly apologizing to the Coppolas for the “no character” comment. I saw the show the first time around when you first said it, and I love you, loved The Judds, but was disappointed myself at that comment.

Then when I watched the show again in reruns, I heard that you weren’t attacking their character, but were commenting on the character of their music. Still, I feel much better now that you’ve apologized publicly to them.

That shows what a classy woman you are.

I thought the decision was right. Even though I liked Rory and Joey in terms of style and just personal taste of music. It just shows how well Caitlin and Will had to do to change my mind. Let’s face it folks the choice of material on at least 2 performances for Rory and Joey were bad decisions. The choices were outside her vocal comfort range, there will always be niches for all kinds of performers but in terms of competition they needed to be very careful about song choices and that cost them in the end.
