Around the Web: Can Songs Cause Seizures?

Posted: June 11th, 2008 at 5:46 pm  |  By: Link Ray

Get your medicine ready, or turn the radio down. Because sometimes a song can be so infectious it causes musicogenic epilepsy.

Staying fit never looked so good. As the Urbans get ready to hit a gym in Nashville, it looks like Keith plans on working out with the morning paper.

Entertainment Weekly has a lot of opinions on Nashville Star, from the judges' comments to the predictions on which contestants will likely be around for a while.

What could possibly give Miley Cyrus the blues? Her fancy schmancy bedroom, all decked out in vintage blue hues.

“Can you Duet” is hundred times better than Nashville star. Did I hear right? This was the best 12 out of 6,000 applicants? Hard to believe. The first 5 were so nervous and I thought there were far worse performances than the guy they voted off had. Billy Ray was mono-voiced and bland. But shock statements from judges really confused me:
Jewel: “We are looking for the best Country artist, not best Country singer” Huh?
John: “Tayler Swift has the best Country sensibilities today and that’s why she is Country’s biggest star” I think I get what he means: He said sensibilities, not singer. She puts on the charm (some of it is getting quite old..the surprised hand to the chest look each time she performs and gets applause? How many times can you be surprised?), she is one of the best songwriters, and she has loads of business savvy charisma but live good singer, she ain’t.”

Whoa and the snipes back and forth between John and Jewel: John: “Who you calling pitchy? I’ve just produced your record and you get pitchy.”
Jewel: (obviously humiliated says) “who you calling pitchy..you with the one octave range?”

I thought Jeffrey just looked embarrassed and wished he could be someplace else where real talent prevailed and where he could shake off this disaster with a cold one.

what a mess, once again swift proved she cannot sing. please I don’t care how much she flops around the stage, she is a no talent and it is becoming so boring.

Re: EW opinions on Nashville Star: Link Ray - Thank you so much for that link. Mandi Bierly, the author of those opinions was ’spot on’. Man, that girl can write and write well!!!!!!!!!

Re: musicogenic epilepsy - Been quite a while back where a TV news program featured one person who became quite disabled by this ‘previously unknown’ malady.

Back in the day: it was the strobe lights that did cause some epileptic kind of problems w/some folks for real.
Other folks the strobes, music and various available and ingested substances contributed to their seizures.

MILEY’S REAL CASE OF THE BLUES

Re: Miley Cyrus having the blues and her blue bedroom - didn’t even bother to look,
but the magazine tabloids say (you know unsubstantiated but printed gossip- Star - June 16 - Page 61)

… Miley’s real blues is being caused by Mama Tish who thinks she is too big for her britches - bad attitude, snotty comments, and online flirting with boys and older men. Article sites Miley is banned from all non work-related activities, computer taken away, no shopping, no sleepovers and no chat rooms. (Miley’s gonna need that pretty blue bedroom sanctuary now!)

I say if any of that is true, then HOOORRAYYY for Mama Tish who is actively parenting. It was also reported that Mama Tish told Billy Ray he’d better be on board for this.
    Good for MAMA!

I’m amazed to here that some feel Taylor Swift is not a good performer. We just got back from CMA Fest and she gave a wonderful performance. She is also the only performer who took an entire day to sign autographs for her fans without taking a break. She is a very sweet young lady and will be around for along time

    Lorraine,

You must be tone deaf. And she HAS to sign autographs for an entire day to distract from how horrible she is vocally.

Lorraine, I know she is a good performer. She’s exciting and does creative things. I and many music critics are just talking about her live singing. Some people can sound great on a CD but not live. Many feel that it’s her age and once she matures enough vocally, she could be one of the biggest country stars to remember.
