Trick My Truck: Big Game

Posted: June 9th, 2008 at 2:42 pm  |  By: Steve Harrah

Big GameBig Game was an awesome truck to work on. We all had a great time working on Derrick's truck because of his love for the outdoors and wild animals, and I think the theme fit perfectly. Ryno laid down some lime time green with killer ripped cheetah print graphics on the outside to get things started. Then the guys installed the 10" lift kit with traction bars with the insane 22" wheels and BF Goodrich tires. The neatest part of Big Game was the aluminum safari rack complete with TVs and sound system in the roof. And we wanted to make sure he could see where he was going, so we custom fabbed a polished stainless steel front bumper with light bar and winch. On the inside, Rob and Oz did their usual magic and loaded it up with an awesome interior and sound system. We had a great time and seeing Derrick's reaction at the reveal was worth all the hard work. I hope everybody enjoys it as much as we did building Big Game. Have fun watching!

    Dear Friends at Varuna Films,

We have been given this address as a contact to submit a request for assistance from the Trick My Truck program.

We are the Clatsop Regional Food Bank in Astoria, Oregon. As a program of Clatsop Community Action; a
501 (c) (3), (Fed Tax ID 93-1010260) we supply nutritional food to emergency food pantries, emergency hot meal sites, soup kitchens and emergency shelters for men, women, and families throughout Clatsop County. Although we have experienced continuous increases in food demand, our recent growth in food distribution has reached double digit increases within last year’s distribution. The near future appears to be grim, and we expect even more demand for emergency food.

We are embarking on the process of building a new Food Distribution Center to fulfill that need; and have been involved in fund raising for 3 ½ years in an attempt to reach our goal.

As part of our future plans we want to develop a “Food Mobile” concept that will allow us to deliver food to remote areas within county that are currently not being served or where the price of gas to travel to a food pantry now costs more than the emergency food that people receive is valued at. Our residents are truly going without nutritional food for themselves and their children. To assist us in our mission an area business has generously donated two vintage vehicles; however, they are in need of some repair, and need minor body work and painting to be very noticeable and presentable in the county. Although we have made some contact with local body shops and sign companies we have had no response. We suffer from a poor local economy and donations are getting more difficult to acquire. We are asking you to “Trick My Trucks” in order that we can continue in our mission of fighting hunger and its root causes in Clatsop County, Oregon.

Thank you for any consideration you may give to this request.

I have attached a brief overview of the Clatsop Regional Food Bank for your review.
    Stay Strong

Haha well from what I can see is you guys are adored. Well, here’s alittle taste of reality.

    You guys are a joke.

Do you know how fake you guys look on tv? Those silly little things you guys do at the beginning of each show is a waste. You make yourselves look like a bunch of fools.

The only thing that is interesting to me are your paintjobs.

My entire family is in the trucking business and they all agree you people are ridiculous. Trucking was an industry revered back in its day, and the guys who made their living driving weren’t these sissies out there today. You know who you are, the ‘new age’ truckers, who go 50mph through a parking lot, leave your trucks idle on a beautiful summer night, cuss and scream on the cb, and brag about your loads that don’t pay crap. You guys are sickening.

Back in the day of B Models, Cannonballs, Emeryvilles, A models, and KB12s, trucks were trucks and guys were real. There are still some hard working real truckers out there, but you people make it look like a joke. Everything you do is so staged and fake, it’s disgusting!

I’ve been to Joplin, and I have been in 4-state. It’s a good shop mind you, but something tells me you guys on TV aren’t the ones doing the work.

My father drives an 88 international and my grandfather drives an 85 pete. They look better than these hunks of junk you guys get that are only 8 or 9 years old. Maybe you should pick people who aren’t truck pigs. My father has practically no time, but his truck is always in good repair and decent to look at. Sure, it isn’t perfect, but it’s a good truck. These guys you get don’t even try and just want a free truck.

In other words, you guys sicken me and probably the rest of the trucking community. You have a great idea going, but you are ruining it with childish jokes and role playing. I’m sadly dissapointed.

I doubt you will send me any kind of response, but I hope you have the decency to explain yourselves.

P.S. Your setup at the ATHS Convention was foolish as well. Every trucker I heard talking about it said you didn’t belong. And you didn’t.

I’ve been on your site the last three nights trying to figure out how to nominate my husband. So, here I go. I think my husband is a terrific dad and hope you will consider this request. He gave up his 2007 chevy hd pickup when we found out we were having twins - again. Yes, I said again! We traded his good pickup for a mini van. Now superdad, cowboy, salt miner, farm hand, gets by with a 1986 flatbed chevy that has seen it’s better days. Trick his truck, make his day a little brighter, his wheels more dependable and help bring the cool factor back.

I really don’t know if this will really happen but I would like to nominate my son, Jacob, to get his truck looking and running good. You see this truck was his grandmother’s, which is his best friend. It was left to him when she passed in April. I told him we could sell it and get something newer but he refused mainly, I think, because it reminds him of his grandmother. He has been trying to restore it by sanding it down and priming those areas. He has even bought 2 new fenders and a new tailgate. Since Jacob’s mother has had 4 surgeries within the past 3 years and looking forward to another, I don’t have a lot of time (and not much experience) to help him. He has been there for everyone, including his grandmother and his mother, who both have needed him the most. So, if there is any way you could help him with his truck I think he deserves it very much.

Hey Huey, First off, CONGRATS!! I had no idea you were even on the tube. That’s a long way from where we came from. I’m not sure if you remember me, but I used to work for Brent and I helped out quite a bit on Shannon’s camero and Brent’s Firebird. I am getting out of the Marine Corps soon and am looking to move to the Joplin/Carthage area. I was wondering if you could drop me a line so that I bend oyur ear oin a couple of things. Thanks!

Please I have sent this to so many organizations and not even got a response to the letter. Your organization reaches a vast majority of people, maybe if some could see it or hear about it. I need help and no one wants to do anything except to say I’m sorry.

Hopefully there is something you can do or know someone who will help. no one will even respond. how are disabled people supposed to get the help they need if no will even take the time to talk to them?

Hello, my name is Don Parks. Are there still any organizations out there that will help disabled people? I have MS and my wife has some severe medical problems, including her spine. I need a lift chair to help me to get out of a chair. I have tried numerous agencies in this area and not one of them will offer to lift a finger. The Savation Army, The United Way, Lifestreams, and others including the govenor’s office was called and all of them say, to bad so sad. My insurance company will only cover $200 toward this chair, which is nice. But that still leaves me paying almost $1200 on the chair. I have no income, I have not worked since May 9, 2008. We live on my wife’s disability check, but that does not leave enough for everything we need. I was approved for social security disability, but I don’t get my check until late December or early January. My question to you is, is there any place a disabled person can get some help that is deperately needed? Even with my check, there is no way to get what I need. I have checked with different medical supply stores in ANderson and Middleton and they will not take payments. They say pay it all up front or no chair. Not counting the chair I still need to find a full size 4×4 pickup truck to carry 2 electric wheelchairs. The truck would need a camper shell on it to cover the lift chairs. If a person is on disability how are they suppose to get what they need if no one will help? thank you for time.
