Around the Web: John McCain for Gone Country 2

John Rich has given John McCain his pledge of support. In return, the presidential candidate offered his support of Rich's hosting duties on CMT's Gone Country 2.

Get a clue, Sara Evans. That's what she'll be doing on Regis Philbin's upcoming game show, Million Dollar Password.

Meanwhile, Evans and her fiancé have put together their charitable wedding wish list.

What's your Tennessee story? Kix Brooks shares his and wants to know yours.

Even though country fans love a good camp-out, staggering gas prices have led to declining site rentals in and around Nashville during CMA week.

Chills. Butterflies. And chart history. That's what's up with Jessica Simpson and her new country single.

Sheryl Crow spent a day at the park. But there were no swing sets this time. This is Crow at her rock star finest at a concert in Central Park.

“Oh Brother Where Art Thou” - Here we go with political candidates being mentioned in the Country Blog headlines. I did notice one of the ‘Dem’ candidates mentioned in the link article.

Either way, we got political debate on some of the message boards, morning and evening newscasts, radio, celebrity news and TV programming.

Why, please tell me why, why, why, why, why, in this once considered my ’special’ music place do we have to mention any political candidate’s name.

    “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?”

“Come on Over.” No, that’s not an invitation. It’s Jessica Simpson’s new county single, and it’s pretty much what you’d expect from a pop princess…….”

    **********************************************************
So she debuted at 41 beating out M. Lambert and B. Cotter who debuted at 42. Link, you were so sweet on Julianne Hough and tough on Jessica and I told you both songs were ‘Bubble Gum Country Music’. Well, Link the ‘pop princess scored’.

“Bubble Gum Country Music” is still getting popular.

Trying to define “Bubble Gum Country Music”.
Song production and/or lyrics that are targeted to a narrow demographic twixt tween and twenty something or some of those 30+ with some arrested development.

Bubble Gum Country Music can also take what otherwise might be a fairly decent country tune and turn it into a Bubble Gum Music video targeted toward the above, aforementioned target demographic thereby overshadowing and diminishing the true creativity of the original song.
Examples: Ashton Shepherd’s SECOND “Takin’ Off This Pain” video and Emily West’s “Rocks In Your Shoes’ video. The Young Country Music Generation probs just loves them.

Some ‘Bubble Gum Country Music” produced in video have the popular ‘bad girl’, ‘bad boy’ ideas contained with in, you know, those cutting edgy attitudes. Many of us love ’sassy’, but aren’t sure about ‘edgy’? Those who work/play/sing close to the edge should remember they can take a great fall.

Nashville’s putting everything into the big Bubble Gum machine right now grinding out songs and videos of the Bubble Gum genre.

I think Taylor Swift’s Bubble Gum too, but she is an original artist, young, energetic and successful in her Bubble Gum genre. Taylor comes across with no pretense. She is what she is. I think a lot of Nashville music production is trying to copy cat, imitate Taylor thinking big money coming in for them. I give Taylor a lot of credit(for doing so much while being so young and being successful at it) and consider her with favor even though I don’t purchase her music.

In many other artists cases Nashville would be better off to resurrect The Archies, Sugar Sugar.

In regards to kayefun’s comment that “The Young Country Music Generation probs just loves them,” I would have to disagree. I myself am 16, but I cannot stand what you call “bubble gum country music.” I do not one bit enjoy listening to Carrie Underwood, Julianne Hough, Jessica Simpson, Jewel, etc. In fact I go out of my to change the station when their songs come on the radio. In my opinion, these artists should go where the should’ve been all along - pop music.

However, I can tolerate Taylor Swift. Her music seems real to me even if it isn’t pure country. I think she is a genuine artist and deserves the awards and honors given to her.
