Are You the Next Big Star?

Posted: June 4th, 2008 at 3:01 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Kenny ChesneyYou know the one. She's a big star at Banana Joe's Bar where she sings karaoke every night? And eventually, she signs autographs like she was Garth Brooks in a skirt. Well, you could be that big star, thanks to Kenny Chesney's Next Big Star contest.

Does America need another talent show? Probably not. But what I like about this one is the prize. The day after the finals at a bar near you, where the winner's announced, he or she (or a band) will be opening Chesney's stadium show. Granted, some of the seats may be still be empty early in the day, but a stadium's a stadium. And the winner gets 15 minutes, which is a chance to really show their stuff. After winning other contests, there's that gray area of working out details of a record deal. That's no fun, and it must really slow down the momentum of the win.

Why is this one moving so quickly? Because Chesney knows Americans are all about instant gratification and skipping that nasty paying-your-dues part of fame. He paid his and may just want to let some cool acts skip that part. So you could be a powerhouse balladeer from Vegas, a band from Chicago or a singer-songwriter from Philly. If Chesney's tour is coming to your neck of the woods, chances are this contest is happening there. And if you win in your own market, you have a shot at the grand prize: opening Chesney's concerts in Tulsa, St. Louis and Indianapolis. Oh, and then there's your tour bus, meals, lodging, $25,000 and the chance to audition for the hit-makers at Chesney's label.

Audition today, and voila, big star by next week.

Am going to enter it here because I love him and love all country music. They have a MySpace page with all the rules about how to send in your videotape of yourself. Wish me luck, maybe I’ll be the next big star rolling around in my $25000! ;)

America definately doesn’t need another talent show. isn’t this the same as Nashville Star? Which fyi, returns to NBC this monday at 9. plus billy ray cirus is more entertainment that kenny anyways. plus jewel judging, taylor swift singing, other drama…why compete.

    I agree with Sweetnlow.

I think Nashville Star has a lot more to offer. The amazing judging trio, for one. And, okay, while opening for Kenny Chesney is indeed a pretty sweet gig, I totally think that Nashville Star’s prizes blow these out of the water:
-A record deal with Warner Brothers Records
    -A concert tour with AEG
    -A Toyota Tundra
    and, the biggest…
-A performance at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing!!

Over 45,000 people auditioned for this show. There was even a special military casting call abroad the U.S.S. Imo Jima…you can’t get more awesome and more American than that!

I’ll be tuning in to NBC to watch the premiere this Monday, June 9, at 9/8c! Check it out. It’s going to be AWESOME.

Let’s spread the love to artists that are not replay of songs they already did a million times. Thousand times a day ad nauseum on the radio with another artist. Radio is so boring, satillite is so much better.

The problem with the whole nashville star thing is ,you do as your told, and sing what your told, Kenny,s thing is to bring out the raw talant of the entries with there own ability to write and sing there own… music, not someone else’s. And by the way my nephew Eric Vonhahmann will be opening for Kenny in Tampa Aug. 29th.

It’s a shame how this turned out. The band that won, “Brother Trouble” were already well on their way to getting a deal. They’ve already been looked at by labels. They’ve opened for Trace Atkins and were on the National Broadcast show “Can You Duet”. Kenny had originally stated that he wanted to help a band that wouldn’t normally have a chance. So all the bands that worked so hard across the country didn’t stand a chance against a group that already had National Publicity and were already being looked at by the majors. It just doesn’t seem right. No one really has much of a chance in this biz if even the contests that seem legit- aren’t legit at all. Nashville Star does the same thing every year. People wait in line all over the country, they narrow everything down, down, down, until 40 to 50 people get to go to Nashville to go head to head. Then the Label that’s sponsoring the whole thing adds 3 people to the show that never had to do anything to get on there, because they’ve been looking at them anyway. Once they’re on the show, they let the public decide. Even if they don’t win, they usually still get their deal because they were gonna get it anyway. That takes away 3 spots out of the 10 that WERE available to begin with for ALL the OTHER cattle prod. Free publicity for the real acts that they want to sign. Just ask “JOSHUAH STEVENS” & “WHITNEY DUNCAN”. Nashville Star Season 5-
