Ashton Shepherd - “Sounds So Good”

Posted: June 3rd, 2008 at 3:36 pm  |  By: Ashton Shepherd

Roman White & Ashton Shepherd Hey everyone. I just shot my video for my new single “Sounds So Good.” The video shoot was so much fun. Here is a picture of the director Roman and I sharing a laugh. We shot it right outside my hometown of Coffeyville. It was just like being out on a summer day hanging out, fishing, riding, and playing music with my family. It was a little hot but, hey, when it’s summer it always is. We shot so many wonderful scenes with my little boy and my family. I am so excited for people to get to see another piece of me. And I hope it looks as natural as it felt to shoot. Thanks for checking in! Hope you’ll check back to read my live blog posts from CMA Music Fest! I can’t wait!

Ashton: I became an instant fan of ‘Takin Off This Pain and very much enjoyed the first video with folks playing instruments in a barn and a little toddler wondering around. I haven’t been an instant fan of a country voice in a very long time. I thought of you as our ‘new age Loretta Lynn’ so far (and so did a lot of people my age).

When I saw the second video of “Takin Off This Pain” with the kicking and then falling screen door, the fire barrel and the blatant attempt to ‘young’ up the video for the narrow market demographic of teen to twenty something, the song was still good, less good than what it was the first time and the video was plainly ‘bubble gum country’, not your song, just the second video. There’s a lotta ‘bad girl’ attitude going around in the bubble gum country genre.

So now we are to the video of your new single. You have a voice that spans all generations and I hope your career management doesn’t take you down on path. You are too an original artist with a marvelous country voice to allow someone to narrow your demographics.

I hope that was polite enough and I really hope that I haven’t offended you. This was a chance to talk to you and tell you the truth as I see it.

Ashton’s music is truly a breath of fresh, traditional country air in this era of Top 40 commercial country fluff. I like my country music to be real and genuine, not rock and pop music with a “modern country” veneer pasted on, and Ashton delivers in spades. I’m looking forward to seeing this new video whereby we viewers can drop in on a family picnic. I’m heading straight for the cooler on the bed of the truck….

PS - I highly recommend making the effort to listen to Ashton when she performs on the Grand Ole Opry. Talk about a powerful, true country voice, Ashton gives me goosebumps…

BTW Ashton: I taped your Good Morning America w/ Sound So Good and of course just loved you and your music.

You looked great with your red and white checked shirt, blue jeans and boots, guitar strapped on, WITH NO DOUBT, you sounded excellent i.e. Sounds So Good.

I absolutely LOVE your music! I fell in love with every single song on your album. I can also relate to one of them. But that song, “How Big Are Angel Wings,” I cried whenever I listened to it! I really enjoyed hearing your album and hope to hear more! I write songs and am hoping to be as good as you and a few of the others as well one day. :)

Hey Ashton love your CD, almost have it memorized, so does my 6 yr old little girl. I noticed your from Coffeyville, is that MS? We are from MS, we write music and sing too, almost the whole family plays & sings. Trying to sell some songs in Nashville, it’s so hard, how did you do it, any hints? We do have a publisher and one song being pitched at Herbert Publishing but nothing yet, did it take you a long time? Love ya The Jones family!!!!

Wow!! “It Sounds So Good!” it actually brought tears to my eyes! My Sweetie and I are always requesting it to be played on the radio! We don’t have a swimming hole, but we love to camp and go fishing. It’s a real down home feeling we get when we listen to it! We both think it should definetly be in the TOP 20!!!
