Shania Ain't No Quitter

Posted: May 30th, 2008 at 1:04 pm  |  By: Alison Bonaguro

Oh, the irony of it all. My very favorite Shania Twain song, and possibly one of my favorite country songs ever, is "I Ain't No Quitter." So now, with the news of this alleged affair between Twain's husband and their glorified secretary, I feel blindsided, frankly.

I mean, Twain says right there in the song (that she wrote with said husband Mutt Lange), "I ain't givin' up on him just yet. ‘Cause I'm as stubborn as a girl can get." She goes on to admit that "he flirts too much, and he loves blond chicks" and "his body rocks, and the girls they flock." Was that all just some kind of cruel hoax, like a foreshadowing they set to music?

The song is full of some very traditional country instrumentation, and the video has Twain getting her cowgirl on. And those cowboy line dancers? Hot. I could watch the video a hundred times and never tire of it. It's the one song that made me feel really connected to Twain. And I could relate to being in that position: You've fallen for a bad boy. He drinks, smokes, chews and flirts, and yet for some reason you stand by him.

I realize lyrics are not meant to be taken literally. Especially country ones. I know it's not as easy as "I tell him to change his ways, but he just turns to me and says, ‘I ain't no quitter.'" If that were true, we'd all be married to bastards. But if there's any truth to the words of that song, I hope Twain and Lange will go back and listen to it one more time.
Learn a thing or two about flaws and forgiveness. Maybe revisiting their own music would show them that marriage is no place for quitters.

Why, if he did indeed have an affair…. Does she have to forgive him & take him back? I’m sorry but I don’t believe that cheating is a flaw, it’s dishonest and disrespectful and I stand behind Shania!

    A fan

Shania is really popular, there has been a lot going on with her lately, so its no surprise we see a lot of blogs on her. It would be wierder if we didnt see Shania blogs.

I don’t know what Shania’s relationship with Mutt is like. If they can get things back together, that would be great. If not, that’s a shame.

    I wish them both well.

I tend to agree with rain but I know what you’re trying to get across alison. Shania is a gem though and deserves better treatment. So sad, I thought for sure they were still the one and were going to be together forever and for always. Hang in there Shania.

Sometimes in our life, there are surprises that is hard to accept or believe. But let us not lean on to our own understanding but on GOD. Let us remember that GOD has always the best plans for all of us. For everything there is a purpose under the heaven. We must move on. Let us not stay long on the “Bumps” of our lives. Let us always think of the many blessings that God has given us. Let’s count our blessings not our woes. Hang on to God because in the midst of darkness, there is always light. God will make a way. He works in ways we can not see. GOD WILL MAKE A WAY. LET GO, LET GOD.

Yea wth is this guy smoking? I knew in the back of my mind that some in the country music business would revel in this break-up, and this bozo proves it.

What is she suppose to do with this old fogie who has been probably cheating on her for years? Keep on taking it and looking the other way?

There is no doubt Shania tried everything to save this pathetic man from his cheating ways, but in the end she couldn’t and did the only thing she could do to find happiness again.

You probably don’t even like the song, and only used it for this piece. That might be more pathetic than Mutt’s behavior.

I don’t see anyone reveling in this breakup, at least on this thread, Drew.

Well im sorry to burst her bubble but I do not agree with this article. I think cheating is wrong and once someone is a cheater, they will always be a cheater. Shania and Mutt took wedding vows and Mutt broke them. He committed adultry and hurt Shania beyond belief. I do not think that Shania and Mutt should go “listen” to “I aint no quitter” together. I think Shania should tell him to go to hell and enjoy his little backstabbing secretary who broke up thier marriage and was supposed to be Shania’s friend. Mutt is a scum bag and Marie is a little homewrecker. Move on Shania, we love you!

I agree with the above mattyboy’s Comments I think it’s wrong for a man to cheat on his wife after 14 years of marriage i mean come on 14 years was not enough what shania did for himmmmmmm ( rolling eyes) i wonder when will it be published in books or magazines etc

I also agree with the last 2 comments. Shania will be fine in the long run, he is the loser! No matter how much money he has.

Come on folks! Give the girl a break. Her private life is non-existant. I’m sure some reporter somewhere will get the breaking story screwed up some way or another and drag this ugly side of life on forever. Sure she’s crushed and miserable. I would be too!! We’ll never know all the details and some people just wont leave well enough alone. (insert Mutts face here). Be ready Shania! When that back stabbing, two faced, skanky, white trash ho gets close enough to touch. Do your dead level best to knock his teeth down his throat, and tell old girl that you gladly accept her offer to take out your trash.

If your spouse is cheating, it shows your own weaknesses, not the spouse.

I dont know if im reading your comment right so I am sorry if I mis interpret what it means, but what the hell is that comment supposed to mean? If your spouse is cheating, it shows your own weaknesses? I dont think so! Mutt cheated on her and cheating is wrong, bottom line. Shania is not a weak person. She is far from a weak person. She cannot help it if her husband and that tramp are destroying thier wedding vows. I would really like to know the psychology behind what you just said. It makes no sense to me at all. Or perhaps you come from a generation where it is ok to go out and cheat on your wife because she does as shes told and does not ask questions. Thats not how it works today. Someone cheats, they are kicked to the curb.

I love your song because nobody needs to be a qutter because if you quit you’ll never get any where in life so you need to keep on singing this song so that nobody quits anything in life so that they keep on going in life. and I’ll tell you what if you keep singing I’ll keep going in life.
