Can You Duet: Kacey
Kacey Coppola is one of the finalists in CMT's Can You Duet competition.
Today the cast that's left jumped into a van and drove down to Joey and Rory's restaurant and farm. It was by far one of the best days we've all had since this crazy experience started! The food was incredible....it has been weeks since any of us has had a home cooked meal! Then we just played for the rest of the day! There was football, horseshoes, barbecue, roping cattle (don't ask), hammocks, a bonfire, and OF COURSE music:) It was like we all got to shed our competition skin for an afternoon and just be a bunch of kids again.....Jeremiah was running around with all kids, Jared was diving for footballs, David roped cattle like a professional...! I wish we could have stayed longer...there was talk of a sleepover, but....we all have rehearsal tomorrow! Back to work! Thank you to Joey and Rory though, for opening up your home to all of us....what wonderful, wonderful people!

Hey Girls,
Great job on the song . Like Naomi i have been able to see what she sees, but its starting to fade away. I grew up in a performing family and can understand your connection to each other. Let me share with you some nice advice for on stage. You need to separate and come back together, rather than stay standing next to each other all the time. Stop pointing at the audience. If you catch yourself doing that (you do it alot) follow it with a finger wave. Take your mic out of the holder and walk away from your sister, reach out to someone and connect with them. Touch the people at the stage with your hand but dont over do it , you could appear arrogant this early in the game so be careful. This will help you become two people instead of one. Let one shine then the other. At the right time soften up your voices and put yourselves cheek to cheek for a beautiful harmony (maybe acapella). Be sincere about making each other sound great. You both look at each other and grin and some times that looks like your thinking ” we know were good” instead of “this is so much fun” . I think it can get boring when twins become one person so I agree two hours could be too much if your always stuck together. You need to somehow let the audience see you as two “different” people that love each other and want to make each other look good individually. Theres nothing like sisters and the love they share. Let us see that….I hope you take this in the helpful spirit it is intended. By the way, I loved the wink!

I think Naomi, see’s herself in you at your age and she
can’t stand the fact, that her and wynona had to work so
hard to get noticed. He come the coppola’s with beauty and
grace and tons of talent. That is why she is such a hard ass
to you both. you keep singing like you have been and you
will make it,too the top two.
Becca says:
Girls, keep on entertaining us. WE love you. You guys have a future in country music whether Naomi likes it or not. WE can see the depth and character. Naomi Judd is not the sole spokesman for country music fans. WE can speak for ourselves. I still think maybe she’s jealous or had a bad experience with blonds somewhere in her past, but whatever her hangup with you guys is, her opinion is just that, HERS, and only hers. Everyone else who actually has a functioning set of eyes and ears can tell you two are GOOD.
Patricia says:
I applaud you for keeping your dignity, while being unfairly criticized by someone who is letting her personal feelings get ahead of her professional wisdom on national tv. That being said, I wouldn’t keep pointing out that Naomi has something against you, it is obvious to all and does not need repetition. As a professional musician , performer and music teacher I can spot talent regardless of genre, and you two ladies have it in spades. I was most impressed on songwriting night by your song selection. Congrats! One final word from an impartial observer…. All the judges have a point about connecting.. you 2 connect more with each other and sing at the audience… rather than with the audience. The advice about putting distance between the 2 of you on stage then regrouping is a great performance tool. Find someone in the audience and sing directly to them, then transition halfway through the song to another person the opposite direction… finally do glance at each other. just my 2 sense. Keep believing in yourselves.. and remember music is self expression… the only person you have to impress ultimately is yourself.
Bill says:
Don’t let the bitch get you down. Country music fans are all about the underdog, so maybe she’s doing you a favor.
If nothing else she Is showing her true colors. I belive we have seen the last of her.AS Nomni can’t judge.
Bonnie Bell says:
I’ve been watching the competition from the start, and have seen tremendous improvement in your act. You and Kate and both beautiful and talented. Don’t let Naomi get you down. Even if she does manage to get you booted off the show, there’s a saavy promoter out there somewhere who will pick you up. I look forward to seeing you perform in the upcoming weeks.
P.S. Please continue to handle Naomi’s negative comments with the grace and dignity that you two have displayed so far. It shows what a true class act you two really are!
Rick Stanton says:
Kacey,
Don’t worry about what Naomi is saying in her critique of you. Remember what the other two judges said and stick with that. What I can tell you is you two have the strongest harmonies on the show so far. You pitch is right on and in tune and every other artist on there strays on the pitch more than you two.
Naomi for whatever reason is just not digging you two and personally her critique of you two is turning into a personal vendetta, and turning her fans I myself included against her. Personally, I think it is turning into not liking blond ladies. Maybe some blond lady in her past had conditioned her response to hate all blonds so maybe you can shock her and come out with red hair one night and make the comment to her; “We know you hate blond ladies so we decided to color our hair red to match yours”, then maybe she well lay off. Then again she may not but remember this, she is not going to move you two on so it doesn’t matter what you say to her just win over the other two judges and focus in on them.
Just keep doing what you are doing and someone will pick you up as recording artist. Now for a little bit about your performances. You two look a little scared to focus in on people and sing to them. One of the judges did get that right about your performance so do this. Pick one person and sing to them for a few seconds and then focus in on another. What will happen is the five around that person will think you are looking at them also, so keep doing this until you have covered the whole room. At the end of your performance you will have sung to the entire audience. This will endear you to the fans and to the judges. Oh, and at the very end look at the two judges you are singing for and totally ignore Naomi. Because in the end she just doesn’t matter anymore as she is lost to both of you.
Win over the other Two Judges!
Dee says:
Hey girls,
Ya’ll have been doing great. I think its a shame the way Naomi has been acting and she is making a complete fool of herself, but you guys have handled everything with dignity and I applaud you. Keep up the good work and keep singing!
