Can You Duet: Feeling Blessed

Posted: May 30th, 2008 at 9:11 pm  |  By: Kim Sorensen

Kacey CoppolaKacey Coppola is one of the finalists in CMT's Can You Duet competition.

Ok...I think the coolest thing ever just happened. We got to sing our own songs on national television! Kate and I sang a song we wrote with Danny Myrick and Jeff Spence called Pouring Over Me. Live, at the Wildhorse, with Sixwire!! I feel so blessed and excited right now...except we had to follow Joey and Rory...and they ROCKED that stage:) We had so much family come out from Denver and Iowa...thank you to EVERY SINGLE fan out there. Y'all are beyond awesome!

til next time...kacey

Coppola’s - my heart breaks for you every time Naomi opens her mouth. I can’t imagine what she’s thinking. It almost seems like her minds made up, that she has to be “that” Naomi now because she’s said negative things in the past - we almost expect it, so she gives it to us. She’s kind of making a fool of herself if you ask me. And such low blows - that remark about no character or depth? I thought I was going to stop breathing. Even if she doesn’t see it (and I think she does but she’s being stubborn) there are millions that do. I see depth, character, talent and lots of hits in you future. I also see me in my car singing along to your songs. I see me standing in line for concert tickets or dialing frantically to my country station to win them. And I’m sure I’m not the only one. Remember, she’s only one person. And just because she has “experience” does not make her right. It’s subjective and there is room for every one. Don’t worry about her. Okay?

I have been a country music fan for years. Naomi Judds comments are just rude and out of control. This from someone that was nothing more than “eye candy”. She rode her daughters coat tail to fame. Everyone in the competition has more talent than she could ever dream of having.

It seems that she feels she has to be the Simon on the show. Her antics toward teh male competitors are gross, she is trying to be a “cougar” and it is disgusitng. I would hope others would voice their opinion on her “act”. She needs to go back and look at old video of her dancing around the stage while her daughter supplied the talent. She needs to grow up and everyone needs to stop treating her like a queen.

    Kacey & Kate
As a local DJ I wanted to let you know that I will be waiting for your CD to be released thanks or no thanks to Naomi’s rude, outlandish, and totally unnecessary comments.
After deleting all of “The Judds” cd’s from my hard drive I now have plenty of room to add yours. Hurry up.

Why does Naomi have such a problem with Kacey & Kate? Maybe if they were red heads, she’d be nicer! Naomi should stick to being sweet.

By the way, I’m beginning to realize why David Archuletta’s dad is difficult to work with. A few months back Naomi made a remark about their “Star Search” days. I’m sure they’re both similiar attitudes colliding.

Yes, Naomi needs to shut up and focus on why she is there..she is not there to put people down…My respect for Naomi Judd is gone…she is petty to let her personal feelings be shown while the camera is rolling…she needs to give constructive criticism when deserved of course, but she is totally disrespectful to the cappolas…she is not all that great herself and is showing a ugly side of her personality…i am embarrassed for her…

I am so glad that others have beat me to the punch regarding Naomi Judd’s bitchy demeanor. I thought she had a little more class than that. Appartently, she’s intimidated by pretty girls that also happen to be very talented. It’s obvious she is also trying to hook a younger gent with her flirting way…Horny bitch! I’ve lost all respect for that woman! Coppolas, continue to be yourselves…You’re a class act! Congratulations!

Oh how unfortunate. Naomi should be supporting you two–like her and Wynonna, you are two, strong, independent and talented singers. But something about you two threatens Naomi Judd. She stands up there and makes nasty remarks to rationalize her disdain for you. It is clear however that her negativity really has nothing to do with you but some “issue” she has with smart and talented women who also happen to be attractive. Perhaps she or one of her kids was told that they weren’t “pretty enough” somewhere down the line and so she’s out to damn all the pretty women in the world. She needs to get some therapy for that because it’s clear to everyone in the audience that it really has nothing to do with you and she’s taking baggage out on you. You come across as great. She comes across as a woman intimidated by talented, attractive women who have the complete package. I think you will be stars whether you get a contract from this show or not–other producers are out there listening. Don’t sweat it. We see your character and depth is there. Stay strong and don’t sink to her level.

It’s gotten to the point that I hit the mute button every time Naomi opens her mouth to criticize you. Unfortunatley, she’s so vindictive, she criticizes you when she’s critiquing the other duos. Forget about her. Her fifteen minutes of fame are over.

You girls rocked. It is clear Naomi is threatened by beautiful talent. You have more than she will ever have. If not for Wy, she would be nothing. I would think Wy has buried her head in the sand in embarrassment over her moms trashy mouth. She clearly hates pretty blonde talented women. I wonder if that is the reason you never heard her say how proud she was of Ashley like she did Wy because Ashley was Blonde and talented and the prettiest of the bunch. I always wondered why I never heard her mention Ashley and now I get it. Now I think every time Naomi opens her mouth she loses fans. She need to stop the horney comments to all the guys. Talk about sex discrimination. I got off tract, keep up the great work so I can buy your cd soon.

I think Naomi needs to take a reality check and realize that if it weren’t for Wynona she’d still be a NURSE!! (Probably not a good one either!) I never heard her sing lead on anything! She just pranced around the stage swinging that god awful skirt! Her comments are not only bordering being rude, they ARE rude.

I so agree with all the comments about the Coppola girls- I enjoy every minute that they are on stage…until Naomi opens her jealous mouth. I could not believe when she bashed the girls while critiquing another duo. How ridiculous. I was so furious when she attacked their character. That is just uncalled for and just shows her character!
Just keep on with all you are doing, girls. We’re rooting for you!

You and your sister are beautiful inside and out and I think Naomi Judd’s comments are just ridiculous. She should remember the old adage “If you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all.” She’s mean and cruel in her comments to you and I for one don’t understand why. I’m so glad to see I’m not alone and so many others are saying the same.
Keep singing and doing your best! Your CD will be in my collection!

You two are great new artists, and Naomi is realizing even with all the plastic sugary and burgandy dye she is washed up. She is pathetic. Or maybe the show just has it set up that way. Her antics are definatly putting her back in the spotlight. I admire you for taking the hits so well, Keep up the good work!

What is up with Naomi Judd???? Her comment about Coppolas not having any depth or character was completely unprofessional and Naomi should be pulled from the show if her jealousy is keeping her from being objective. It’s very apparent that Naomi is having serious unresolved issues.

I have watched for several shows now, while Naomi Judd has executed her personal vendetta against the Coppola twins. Like others here, I cannot fathom just what her problem is, but she has gone too far. She has lost all objectivity and really should recuse herself from being a judge on this or any other show. I am also dissapointed in CMT for allowing this to go on for so long. One thing is true, whether the Coppola twins are “talented enough” or too cocky (many, many things can be mistaken for this, btw, like nerves) they don’t deserve to be railroaded by one person’s inappropriate meanness. I will no longer watch this show because I cannot possibly support a contest where everyone is NOT given a fair and equal shot at winning. To the Coppola twins, keep you chins up, keep working hard, and don’t let people like Naomi Judd get to you. If you want this bad enough (and it seems that you do) it will happen eventually.

Wow, Naomi is something awful tonight. I’m watching the songwriters night. It’s one thing for her not to be crazy about a duet, but she’s just flat rude. I’ve always thought so highly of Naomi, but as of now, I don’t care if I ever watch her entertain or see her on any shows. Her nasty comments turn my stomach.

Copolla’s - Guess she’s just jealous that you’re both beautiful and talented! Keep your chin up and ignore ignorance!

    Good Luck!

Coppolas, you sounded great. I thought it was one of the best songs and performances of the night. Why is Naomi even a judge, since she seems to have her favorites predetermined? She’s a complete joke. The guys can sound awful but she just gives them that stupid look and calls them stars. She has no business being a judge and wouldn’t know talent if it hit her in her plastic face. How you two keep from giving that hack the bird is beyond me. Talk about someone with no depth or character. Well, I guess ‘bitch’ is character. She seems to be so self absorbed, she doesn’t even realize how pathetic and rude she is coming off as. Good luck and keep on dueting.

You girls put on a fantastic performance on Friday’s show! And it was even better with the realization that you wrote the song! With talent like that, nothing, including Naomi’s destructive criticism, should stop you.
I admire your spunk in standing up to her and coming back for more abuse week after week. Most of us would be in therapy by now. Ignore her hateful remarks - it’s more a reflection of her than anything about you two. I think that everyone who watches the show can clearly see that she has “issues” and is taking them all out on two gorgeous innocent gals. Hang tough - we’re all behind you!

Unlike your fans, who it seems are the only ones giving you feedback, I beg to differ. I also have some advice, from someone a little older and who has had my share of successes. I think the judges including Naomi are giving constructive and fair comments — all things considered. I am not a fan of yours, nor someone who dislikes you. Why am I writing this? Because I was pained to see you nearly self-destruct at the end of the show — with your comments. I think there is a good chance you will be voted off not because of your talent but because of your attitude. Ms. Gibson (Wild Honey) had an entitlement attitude (on full display in her resentful comments after being voted off), a big negative. Nathan Herron — same thing, every week. They were both sent because they “were not ready” meaning they needed some attitude adjustment. They were not ready to represent ‘country music’. So, why in the world, when Naomi’s comments improved to neutral from prior weeks’ negative comments, did you bash her? Yes, her ‘lack of depth’ comment was harsh, but you know what … many of us who have been watching you for three to four weeks agree. After watching you sing, my opinion of your musical ability changed from neutral to positive. I am starting to see a pair who can make it, I did not see it before. But maybe you shot yourself in the foot. Heed some advice from a stranger, if you don’t advance it proably won’t be because of a bad performance (you’ve been getting better every week), it will be due to your being stupid. Let your fans bash Naomi, she’ll hear it. You don’t need enemies. Ask Naomi for specifics on how to improve. She might end up giving you the most constructive advice of any of the judges. She has earned her stripes, she sees something. And if you let her play a role in your success, by soliciting her advice and taking it, she might turn into an ally.

I am appalled by the no talented Naomi Judd! She needs to come down off her high horse that WY gave to her and fan her menopausal self off and realize that there are young talented beautiful women out there that are way more talented and beautiful than her. Jealousy becomes no one!
Talk about no character. Hang in there you two! Even if she causes you to lose, which she is trying to do, you will soar without her. I don’t know why the fans don’t get to vote on this. I won’t be watching next year.

Our parents are so strong to just listen to..lets just say “strong opinions” regarding us…. and not be able to defend their daughters :>)! It’s ok, We said, “mom and dad…we’re 25…pretty soon you’re going to have to stop protecting us!” Our family is amazing :>) I don’t know if any of you saw the shorter blonde woman in the front row on the show during our performance, but that’s our mama and she (and pops) taught us everything we know!!

Like I’ve said before, we have ALWAYS respected The Judds! We grew up listening to them. idolizing them…wanting to do exactly what they do! Any comments and advice the judges give us we take very seriously to heart and try to apply it to our act to our very best abilities!!

THANKS AGAIN FOR THE SUPPORT!! LOVE you all and thanks for watching the show!! hope to meet you soon!

I am almost 50 years old, I have listened to country music my whole life, while I have no singing talent I know what sounds good to me. Everyone still in the competition has better voices than some of the people who are (stars)in counrty music. But having a great voice is not all you need you have to be an act.The Dixie chicks had all that. I loved them, but after the “incident” their music changed to an in your face style I dont like. The Coppolas are good, but they have that same (we know we are great attitude) that makes me not want to listen. The George Strait song they wrote is one I skip on the CD even before I knew they wrote it. Before I take a beating for my comment from some crazy Coppolas fan, please remember we all have different tastes. These are my feelings, they are no wrong or right, just mine.

HEY! I loved your song, you can really sing. I think Naomi just wants you to do better, wants you to succeed, knows you have what it takes just pushing you to do better. She’s right about not connecting so much with the audience. Some of the other contestants can connect with the audience and give an awesome stage performance but don’t bring home the vocals or the songs. You girls can do it, I’ve seen you, but then you just go back to the same way again.
It was an awesome show all around. You all rocked the stage and I can’t wait to see what you do next week.

Naomi Judd’s comments were jaw-dropping. Has she become entirely demented? Whether she likes the Coppolas or not, is no excuse for her entirely unprofessional remarks. It’s painful to watch. The other judges are awesome, fair, and constructive. I also agree that Naomi is too soft and flirtatious with some of the male contestants. It’s rare that so many fans agree–and that’s because her inappropriate behavior is so obvious to everyone with the sole exception of Naomi herself. She really should be fired from the show, she has to be an embarassment to the network.

    Hello, Can You Duet.
I have been watching all season and granted there are many things I could say that make a book. However, my first comment is to the Coppola’s “Don’t give up!” Naiomi Judd seems “to me” jealous of you two. Your talents are very clear twins, pretty, songwriters, DUH, no brainer keep up the good work and do not give up she is just a fixture there and the “Fans” (as you stated) will be your destiny. I never liked redheads (except Reba) now if she had talent it would be understandable and accepted but she needs to go back to bed, ( I thought she was ill and had to leave the biz)oh well.
PS I need to mention also that guy judge I don’t care to even know his name or even remember it because IF a person has “his Hair” in his face all the time How do you listen to him where are his eyes? I think he may have input but who could understand or hear him with his eyes hidden what is he hideing from? Go figure Cut that hair man and Man up.
Can YOu Duet is a wonderful stepping stone for many artists and hope that the “new” judges next season will have better input that will make a winner that deserves it like the Coppola’s.

You two are winners if I had the vote. I went out and bought the George Strait “Troubadour” cd and have played and replayed “House with No Doors” - love it! When Naomi makes a negative comment I hear George Strait sing, “You can’t make a woman feel somethin’ she don’t” - but God bless you girls for continuing to try. From the beginning shows, my husband and I have noticed you two are the first to console those that are selected out - suggests great character and depth if you ask me. We wish you a long and fulfilling career and we will buy all your cds and enthusiastically sit through any concerts you perform out east.

Y’all need to hang in there. I liked your original song and you did a great job. I can’t honestly figure out the Naomi thing. To be frank, I always thought she rode her kid’s coattails. I have never heard her sing by herself and there were always multiple people singing “background” when she performed. It could be professional jealousy since they have eliminated all girl duos except you. And that last comment about no depth was uncalled for, too. Just mean for the sake of being mean. I hope you do well.

Writing this blog just doesn’t seem to even come close to the interaction I would like to have with CMT. I don’t believe Naomi should even have the option to recuse herself, CMT needs to let her go immediately. I agree with the others that this situation has went far enough. She has shown no professionalism since the beginning of this show. All of these contestants have worked hard to be where they are right now, and families at home deserve to be able to sit and enjoy this show with their children. My children were upset to hear Naomi’s comments. I was embarrassed that I was watching a show where not only mean words were being directed towards someone, but she had the emotion behind every word she was using. Shame on you Naomi, and shame on CMT for letting you get by with it.

    Kacey & Kate,
I wish you well & it’s clear that you both have a great deal of talent, & I’ve rooted for you from the very first - but Naomi is right about one thing, in my opinion (& so very wrong to target you publicly, viciously, the way she’s consistently been doing - I’ve got to question her motives, professionalism, & lack of compassion): most of your performances have lacked heart & connection with the audience. You’ve been steadily improving, though, & showed on songwriter night last week that you’ve got what it takes to succeed, whether it be on Can You Duet or by another path - I really enjoyed “Pouring Over Me”. As for who “deserves” to win, from a viewer’s perspective it’s awfully hard to call! I think most of the 5 duos left deserve a record deal, & it’s a shame there can only be one “winner” on this show.

Regardless, keep your chins up & continue to show everyone that you’re both tough cookies who can keep coming back for more & stand up to unfair knocks - you’ve been doing great. I do feel that one of you (sorry, not sure which!) has been noticeably snarky at times in lashing back at Naomi, & while I can truly understand the provocation (especially after her “character & depth” comment last week, which was horrible! I was shocked & really felt for you), try to rise above it & show your best side - don’t give her the satisfaction of descending to her level. Your audience will like you better for it, too.

You both seem strong enough to make it in show biz, & with your talent plus all your support from family & friends, you’ll probably make it in country music if you want it badly enough. You have a distinctive sound, regardless of what anyone else might say, & I would buy your CDs & cheer you on!
You go, gals…best of luck to you :-)

Ya’ll are great and have a special talent. I can see you as the next Dixie Chicks ( in sound only )Listen to Naomi, Be Positive in your reaction to her, And remember the music industry is full of negatives but keep singing because the positive will outway them. When ya’ll sang your song you wrote I was right there saying “That is a HIT song” I was very disappointed with Naomi’s comment.

What are you girls doing…taking off comments that you do not like? I left one weeks ago, and now it’s gone…hmmm!
I was going to say that it was refreshing last week to see that you stopped all the pointing at us(only once) and this week not at all. You are doing better on stage with your arms. Like Naomi said tonight you didn’t duplicate yourselves, and did the best so far. If you can SEE that, then you can take constructive suggestions and stop blaming her for your poor performance. The most successful people don’t have “yes” people around them all the time…they have honest people with different opinions. The boys should have stayed tonight…you should have gone…lesson’s over!

    Kacey,
You were shaking like a leaf in a hurricane when Naomi started her remarks on your performance last night. At first I thought you were just waiting for the expected harpoons, but now I think it was because you had just seen a pig fly - because that is what was going to happen on the day Naomi had a positive comment for you two! I think the viewing audience was about as shocked as the two of you were! (I’m sorry I missed the pig thingy though) I loved your performance, keep up the class act, and I wish you the best (your future, with the show, and with Naomi)! You have some tough competition and I wish everyone could win because ALL of you are so talented; however, just from reading the posts you have a great fan base already!

Bret was right about the country music industry and how it handles humility. Stick with the gracious acceptance of feedback, continue showing your genuine closeness with the other contestants (and others in the industry), and keep up the connection with the fans. Stick with what is working and keep in mind you can’t be all things to all fans. You ARE going somewhere!

I find your performances boring. Your voices are pretty, but they don’t sound special to me. You are both pretty, but not in a way that makes me wish I was more like you. The only thing I find memorial about you is the immature way you both respond to Naomi’s criticisms. She’s not making the comments, because she’s jealous of you, or doesn’t want to be your friend; she’s trying to get you two to dig deeper and find something real inside, something that the public needs to hear. Stars are those individuals that figure out a way to express something that the rest of us never thought of- a clever way to twist a phrase, the perfect way to say I love you, or to show our pain, or anger. So far your music and your performances have been fluff; nice but nothing that changes my ability to express myself. Do you understand what I mean?

Hi, I know the show is over but I really loved it besides Naomi, she ruined the show! I have always loved the Judds but not anymore! Anyway, I don’t know why she was so hard on the Cappola’s, it made no sense. I had to laugh every time she made a comment on how pretty they were and how there are so many other pretty blonde singers out there. What were they supposed to do? Dye their hair, knock a few teeth out, lose or gain a bunch of weight? It was like she was punishing them for how pretty they were. How dare you two look good!!! LOL… Geez!! Anyway, the Cappola’s were awesome, I loved them! I loved just about everyone on the show, I would buy everyone’s cd!!!! :-)
