The Day Shania Twain Proved the Obvious

Posted: May 29th, 2008 at 10:33 am  |  By: Tom Roland

Shania TwainThursday (May 29) marks an important date in the history of country music: the one-decade anniversary of the moment that Shania Twain was able to prove that, yes, she can in fact sing. She had already proven that by performing live after the release of her debut album in 1993, but then she put out The Woman in Me in 1995. That album audaciously sold multi-millions of CDs, instigating jealous whispers around Nashville that she was a complete studio fabrication of husband-producer Robert John "Mutt" Lange, who'd made a huge impact on pop music by working with Def Leppard, AC/DC and Bryan Adams.

She unintentionally fueled the rumors with her own unorthodox choice after the release of The Woman in Me to refrain from touring until she had enough hits to dominate a live show, and she finally launched that tour May 29, 1998, in Sudbury, Ontario, the area in which she grew up. She sang ably, and as reports from the tour filed in during the ensuing months, most of the naysayers gave up their position.

There are those who still think the bulk of her success is derived from her marriage. Now that she and Lange are in the beginnings of a divorce (and what a mess that process will be, given the massive holdings they have on multiple continents), one assumes she'll move forward with a new producer -- or maybe even produce herself. As someone who once watched her rehearse two vocalists while preparing for a radio tour, I can tell you she is every bit an artist with a perfectionist bent, and not a mere puppet. It'll be interesting to see where she goes on her own. And it will be equally interesting to see how her efforts are greeted by the same industry that once doubted her.

Shania will be able to hold her own. She is one talented lady with a great voice. Can’t wait to see what she brings to Country music next.

I always considered Shania and Mutt as a team. As talented as Shania is, I think Mutt gave her a clear and directed career path to success. Then they disappeared on us ‘Shania crazed monster buying fans’.

IF Shania comes back into country music now, I will be more cautious, discerning and due to her previous major success, probs more comparing music wise. I know I won’t be going Shania crazy again. I hope to be Shania music liking, too be determined.

Shania is a music icon who is also a great talent.
Her voice will even sound better without it being so over produced. Shania and Mutt were the greatest music team of the last 20 years but every icon re invents themselves and try something different.
I don’t know if Shania will sing more country songs because she does have a massive global pop fan base.
But I believe whatever she sings that country music better embrace their biggest female star of alltime.
Shania brings star power and charisma to music.
Even today with her on hiatus of a few years, people all over the world just can’t wait for new music.
Shania will come back better than ever and refreshed.
She may even produce most of the album herself since she has been in the studio for 14 years with the best producer of alltime.
If the industry were smart they would bet to have Shania and her fan base come back to country music.
All these new acts today are just manufactured Nashville puppets from reality shows.
Shania is in a league of her own.

My boyfriend and I had our first date at Shania’s concert in chicago which will be 5 years on July 27. I was hoping she would be having another concert so that we can bring back the memories. Her concert was awesome and we had a great time! Will she be coming out and doing any concerts anywhere. i wanted to give him a present of going to see but don’t know where. Thanks

I respect Shania, she has a great voice, however Mutt Lang is such a brilliant producer, i dont think she’l ever hit the highs she has had again without him, look at Def Leppard, Bryan Addams, ACDC, there still around and doing well for themself, but there not as big as they were 15 years ago.

Joe, sorry buddy but you can’t compare def leppard and bryan adams to a Shania. Shania has a solid country fan base and pop fan base.
it is Shania’s voice and charisma we love.
The name Shania is know all over the world. Mutt Langes sound was getting old and now Shania can re invent herself with a new sound and new generation of fans.
Don’t ever underestimate Shania’s impact on her own success. It was Shania’s honey voice and charisma that I fell in love with not Mutt Langes production.
When people go buy a Shania album they buy it because they love Shania.
Her fans will be there for her as always.

I’ve been a fan of Shania’s since before her collaboration with Lange. I am wondering if she’ll even go back to recording music since she can live on what she’s earned already. Whatever road this lady takes, I wish her well.

Barb, of course Shania is uber rich and will never have to lift another finger in 100 lifetimes. Shania is worth 450 million according to people magazine this week and Mutt is worth 500 million. They are the richest couple in music.
But Shania makes music for the passion.
She will continue to write and record music for a long time.

I have no doubt in my mind that Shania can’t make it without her husband’s collaborative effort. Since the break-up of their marriage, I’ve noticed a lot of fans keep looking at the negative side, some say her music won’t be as good, while others seem to think that she’ll just abandon her passion altogether. I’m not sure how she’ll work her career around Eja, now that she’s to become a single mom, but hopefully she’ll find a way to manage and long may her voice be heard on both the country and pop format. Her fans will be behind her all the way.

I’m also curious to see if Shania will continue to amke music, I was curious about that before the split. Shania had no where near the fan base she has now before she worked with Mutt, so it would be intresting tos ee what she did with another producer, and different writers. Yes, the Mutt style was getting old, that formula dried up in the early 90’s in pop, and when he brought that style to country with Shania, it was refreshing, until it got old in this genre too. I wish her all the success in the world, but Mutt did help get her to where she is, no doubt about that, but she has plenty of talent to amke it on her own as well…just as others Mutt worked with in the past.

I am just praying for this sweet songster. She is going through what a lot of us go through plus many other stresses. Her life must be a mess and her tears many.
Her personality comes through pretty solid through her music and videos regardless of who her producer is or will be and that to me is the most important part of Shania. She is an adorable woman and my heart and tears go out to her.

I have to say, I have always been a huge and loyal fan of Shania. My mother just broke the news to me today of her breakup. I was just like her–devastated. People need to realize that she has had such a hard life. The poor woman just can’t get a break. She backed out of the spotlight so she could breathe. As she has said herself in Redbook magazine in 2007 “I’m a music nut, not a fame nut.” I also read in that magazine that she should be releasing an album in 2008. Hopefully, this catastrophe won’t interfere with her performance. Give her credit; no other female has been able to do what she has done in reference to album sales. It hurts me to know that Mutt produced the majority of her music, as well as cowrote it with her. I was just listening to her music last night and was thinking of her. Actually, this right here is not a joke. You can ask my friends; they hear it all the time. A few years ago, I had a dream I was in a pizza restaurant and Shania sat down in the booth with me. In the dream, she was eating meat lover’s pizza, for the strangest reason. I asked her to autograph my root beer can, and she wouldn’t. Matter of fact, she was insanely rude. I asked her what was wrong. She told me she was getting a divorce. Remember, that was a dream from an 11-year-old Shania freak. I never saw this coming. It’s happened to Sara Evans. I’d hate to see any really “perfect” relationships end like this. Shania needs to remember that she has legions of fans that will stand by her and her desicions always. I am proud to say I will always be one of those.

I wonder which sound she will have? If you listen to her 2 last cd’s, the Def Leppard sound was very evident. I listen to both country and rock and picked it up immediately. You can sing Def Leppard songs to Honey I’m Home and a bunch of other songs as well.

    Who’s popular these days?

    Shania Twain: Cheater Denies Everything…
    EmailWritten by confessing7girl on May-26-08 3:56pm
    From: 7confessions.blogspot.com
Shania Twain is still reeling from a double betrayal, not only by her husband of 14 years, music producer Robert “Mutt” Lange, but by a woman she considered a close friend.
Lange’s relationship with Marie-Anne Thiébaud a longtime secretary and house manager at Twain and Lange’s estate in Switzerland, was behind the breakup, say several sources familiar with the situation.”Mutt and Marie-Anne left their spouses for each other and are still in a relationship,” says one source, adding that the Swiss employee was a fixture in the household Twain and Lange shared with their son, 6-year-old Eja D’Angelo. “Their two families would vacation and spend holidays together. Shania considered Marie-Anne one of her best friends.”
Marie Anne Thiébaud has slammed reports she broke up Shania and Mutt Lange’s 14-year marriage. The secretary denies rumors she became close or had an affair with Robert.
‘When marriages break up they break up for all sorts of complicated reasons, it’s never just one reason,’ she tells Us Weekly. ‘And those reasons should be kept private. If you’re looking for a person that broke up a marriage then you have the wrong person. I’m not that person.’
Gold-digger!! Mutt is just plain stupid to leave someone as hot as Shania for that “secretary”!

    SLAVE 4 TRUTH

Robert John “Mutt” Lang and Matt Haywood (formerly of HHO Publishing) together with B. Spears SONY ZOMBA BMG stole my SOCAN registery pre dating liner note suggestion.

DDLR: So what’s the angle on your Dave Lee Roth scam? Does it not just make you look dumb?

Dean Hajas: The angle on the DLR story is that the OPP released the story to CTV as though it were fact. CTV ran the story without talking to me to verify the validity of the claim. When the media finally realized it had mad a blunder, it then tried to pin the story on any donkey in the area. I chose to run with the story, thinking “what the hell” if people want to believe DLR was staying at my house in Oakland Ontario, let them. It was fun, interesting, controversial, and entertaining.
DLR camp can’t thank us enough.! And we’ve been on Howard Stern now and Radio one in Detroit.

    Not bad for a rumor

DDLR: Ah ok thanks for answering. I should have said in my original email that the reason I asked was as a webmaster at the main Roth fan site I saw through it pretty early and found the whole thing odd. Did you ever meet the weird impersonator guy?

Dean Hajas: The impersonator guy? It gets a little darker around the edges when you mention DLR and DPA together in the same sentence. There is a gag order with regards to these two. Remember the Police released the info as GOSPEL and CTV followed. I could get into financial trouble for giving anymore info as of yet.

DDLR: Are you the same guy claiming a copyright thing with Britney Spears, is that a scam too?

Dean Hajas: With regards to B. Spears. The absolute truth! I met with Matt Haywood of HHO Publishing in Oct. of 2001 in England. Matt originates from South Africa as does Robert John “Mutt” Lang. They both show up in the UK in the early 70’s. Matt started Expansion records and Mutt Zomba. I went over to England to visit a son of mine during the 911 event and took my song roster with me. I down loaded a UK music directory and circled two companies HHO Publishing and Zomba. I met with reps from both companies and was advised that Matt Haywood wanted to be my UK representative. Matt left HHO Publishing as the disgruntled employee and left with an undisclosed amount of intellectual properties. I returned to Canada producing Jazz and Country and Native flut music. I was at Future shop Christmas of 2005 and that’s when I heard my melody. I don’t lay claim to the lyrical content of Slave 4 You, however Zomba and its affiliate members and representatives didn’t change a thing about my creation. I have the SOCAN registry of my creation which also predates B.Spears claim of ownership in her liner notes as “previously unreleased original by B. Spears”. B. Spears has 6 A & R representatives combing the Globe for potential hits, and they suck the life force out of creation. Wade Leak of SONY BMG is the legal counsel for this matter and is trying to use “statutory of limitations” regarding the ownership of the said creation. Our contention with this, the writer of Stairway to Heaven wrote the hit in 1972 and renumeration didn’t take place until 1993. Our plan is to win in two other zones (Countries) other than the USA, thereby forcing the USA to reopen this record smashing copyright infringement. When I realized that the Media was Knee deep in this story, I took full advantage of the situation to draw attention to the real story behing the DLR supposed sighting. Sorry for any hurt feelings, to DLR fans, however I hope you can appreciate the run around that I have been getting from Eric Levine, Bruce Scavuzzo, Dave Schmidt and Wade Leak to name a few. Our country has contention with the library of Congress in Washington D.C. It seems in 1864 Alexander Graham Bell claims to have invented the telephone. For over a hundred years our media and schools have reported this as truth. I later find out that Alexander Graham Bell promised Western Union 10% of earnings to remove Antonio Maouchi (sp?) from being recognized as the patent pending owner and holder. If the Library of Congress can allow such a blunder when it comes to something as revolutionarey as the telephone, then how can the FBI and USA stand behind its copyright laws as enforceable, authentic and transparent to other would be artisans, inventors and musicians alike?

Hope this helps you out Sesh.
