Five Fun Things to Do in Nashville
I've been in Nashville for just about a year now. I guess that puts me somewhere between assimilated local, and wide eyed visitor. I'm still finding new and interesting things almost every week, but I've also had time to key in on a few of my favorite Nashville attractions. With vacation season just around the corner, why not share some of these "can't miss" spots.
Honky Tonk – Everyone has heard stories of their favorite country stars playing for tips on Broadway, but actually seeing these places will bring those stories to life (and maybe add a personal chapter). Check out Robert's Western World, Tootsies Orchid Lounge, and Legends Corner.
Solid Country Gold – The Country Music Hall of Fame is always a big draw, and with good reason. Their new exhibit "Family Tradition: The Williams Family Legacy" will run through 2009 and explore the personal and professional lives of the Hank Williams family tree.
Nashville Sound - RCA's Studio B Tour gives an in-depth look at one of the most illustrious recording studios in the world. This is the studio where the Nashville Sound was created in the 1960s, and was the workplace of many greats like Elvis Presley, Eddy Arnold, Dolly Parton and Chet Atkins to name a few.
Local Music – There's more to Nashville than just Country. Check out Station Inn (bluegrass heaven), Exit/In (rock/indie), Bluebird Café (excellent songwriters), 3rd & Lindsley (blues), and Mercy Lounge (whata ya got?)
Natchez Trace Parkway – A personal favorite of mine, this 400+ mile scenic highway was once a Native trail linking the tribes of the Deep South with those in Middle Tennessee. Now it's just a great way to see the Southeast with no billboards, tractor trailers or strip malls. Driving, bicycling, hiking, horseback riding and camping are all easily accessible.
I realize this is a very short and very incomplete list, so please feel free to add your own suggestions in the comments.
