Congratulations to Sugarland for winning two ACM Awards for “Stay” — single of the year (for notable airplay, sales and listener impact) and song of the year (essentially recognizing the songwriter). It’s proven to be a breakthrough hit for the duo. The first time I heard it, I was about to park my car and then this really quiet song came on the radio - and I was immediately hooked. Some people have commented in other blog entries that Jennifer Nettles - who wrote and sings the song — shouldn’t be glamorizing adultery. Huh? You can actually hear the pain in her voice, so I just can’t imagine anyone thinking, “Wow, now that’s the life!”

In case you missed the show, here’s a playlist spotlighting this year’s winners:

“Better as a Memory” - Kenny Chesney

“Last Name” - Carrie Underwood

“I’m Still a Guy” - Brad Paisley

“Everyday” - Rascal Flatts

“Find Out Who Your Friends Are” - Tracy Lawrence

“Put a Girl in It” - Brooks & Dunn

“Stay” - Sugarland

“Gunpowder and Lead” - Miranda Lambert

“Love Don’t Live Here” - Lady Antebellum

“Should’ve Said No” - Taylor Swift

“Maybe She’ll Get Lonely” - Jack Ingram

Personally I don’t like “Stay” and the other songs of the same ilk. Whiney, crybaby, Whitney Houston junk. That is fine for the teeny bopper pop culture but country should be tough and gutsy. What happened to the real men and women of country? I can’t wait until this stage is over so we can get back to our roots. I’m crying a little tear, how about an oscar?

Dear Montana Fan…You obviously missed the point of the song. She is singing about a woman who was unfortunately blinded by her love and loving someone who couldn’t love her the way she deserved to be loved. In the end of the song she essentially tells him to kiss off and stay with his wife because as a strong and self-loving woman she deserved more that him. Sounds like a strong message to me.

i love “STAY” its a powerful testimony to the raw courage of conviction for JENNIFER to pour her heart out in such an emoitional mega-hit. what made “STAY” such a block buster. the fact that JENNIFER is not only the singer. she wrote “STAY” her self. she deserves all the praise and honors for such a deep heart touching song. she is in rare company of just 4 artist, that were singer and wrote their own song.

I just have to say that there music doesn’t do it for me. I guess they are more country than some, but there sound just…isn’t good.
