Miley Cyrus in Virtual Bubble?

Posted: April 30th, 2008 at 6:41 pm  |  By: Chet Flippo

Rampant reports around the Web indicate that Miley Cyrus has had a moratorium on public appearances and media utterances placed on her. Reports say that Disney has decided the Hannah Montana star has reached a no-win situation with the media frenzy surrounding her recent Vanity Fair magazine photo shoot and its somewhat revealing results.

So she seemingly will stay buttoned up and in the Disney cocoon for awhile, until the hubbub dies down. That’s probably the smartest thing she could do. The media monster is blaming her, blaming Billy Ray, blaming Vanity Fair, blaming the publicity machine. There’s plenty of blame to go around, but there’s still a valid argument to be made that this is a tempest in a teapot. Millions of words written and spoken over … what? Remember, despite all of her superstar success, Miley Cyrus is just a 15-year-old child.

She has so many little fans and yet she does something like that…. Miley’s career could be at a hault because of her actions.

    I agree with Josh.
Shes one of the worst role models ever.
At least when Britney and Lindsey where her age they didn’t behave like this.

I’m shocked, and im really dissapointed. I have lost all respect towards Miley.

I am a huge Billy Ray fan. At this point, I am totally disgusted and disappointed. This is a man who continually totes his Christianity. A man who had expressed concern for other ‘pop tarts.’ That he would allow his 15, repeat 15, year old daugther to pose for these shots is astounding. Why is she laying on the floor? Why is she apparently nude under a blanket? It does not really matter if she was nude or not. The point is the photograph was supposed to present an imagine of nudity as she looks into the camera with a “knowing” look. I have listened to talk radio for two days and I can tell you that mothers across the country are rethinking letting her daughters attend her concerts now. Shame shame on Billy Ray and Miley. And where, pray tell, was her mother? The spin from their camp is that Billy and her mother left the shoot before the most offensive pix were taken, leaving the grandmother and a publicist to hold down the fort. Excuses, excuses.

OK Josh and Nat have no idea what they’re talking about. Yes, Most of her fans are young, but they all are not going to hear about this because they are young. Most are not old enough to know what the internet is and most do not even know Hannah Montana’s real name. Miley Cyrus is not one of the worst role models ever. The acts of Miley do not compare at all to the the magnitude of the immature acts of Lindsay Lohan and Britney. You cannot say that showing her back in an artistic way in a popular magazine is wrong and bad for youth. This photoshoot shows another talent of Miley and that is modeling. Is a fifteen yeard old is not allowed to show her back, what is this world coming to? The media has blown this way out of proportion and wants to see a very successful pop star/ singer/ actor/ anything you can imagine go down the drain. Howver, that is not going to happen when she has a great family support system and Disney to back her up. She has done nothing wrong, and everyone is making a big deal about it.

The skin Miley showed is equal (if not less due to she is at an angle) to that of which people would see if any girl was to be seen wearing a two piece bikini from behind. With that said, the photos (all of them) were artistic, too bad if people can’t see the beauty of these photos due to their own perverted minds. This is a fake scandal that was hyped to sell tabloid magazines and get TV viewers on awful fluff shows(Chris Hansen comes to mind). Only people that should be sorry is the media.

I think everyone including disney needs to leave Miley alone. Shes a 15 year old girl, not some money making package. The photos werent even that bad and i seen much worse from normal 15 year olds today. Plus most over her fan base isnt even old enough to read, let alone find her pictures on the web.

To be fair, I’ve only seen the one photo, the one where she is sitting with her back exposed. I thought the photo was typical of Annie: beautiful, artistic, esoteric, haunting.
If you look at a photo in that vein of a young person and the first thing that pops into your mind is sex, then you should get help and please stay away from kids.
Miley, Annie, you have nothing to be apologetic for except maybe failing to recognize the magazine is for prude American readers – you know, the self-proclaimed moral leader of the world … the one with the highest teen pregnancy rate.

GIVE MILEY A BREAK! She’s 15. At least she wasn’t like Vanessa Hudgens and posing completely nude and uncovered. No one is still going on about that and that was completely worse. The only reason she’s still getting looked down on is beacause the stupid media was waiting for her to make a mistake because she’d been too perfect for them. Miley, you are awesome.

Being a teenage girl myself I realize what it is like growing up now. This whole thing with miley is being blown wayyyyy out of porportion. She didn’t even do anything wrong. So what if she and a guy took pictures together. Almost every teenage girl has pics like that of herself with a guy. And… with the whole photoshoot, its not like that was her fault, she obviously wasn’t the one to say oh yea i want to pose with a sheet. She is a great role model for kids, she is hard working and overall seems like a very nice person with a dream and big goals for the future. people need to lay off of her and give her a break. We are all human and so things we regret. get over it.

This picture is innapropriate for a 15 year old who has fans that are children. I think people forget that she is only 15 because they see her appearance as much older. This photo has her wrapped in a blanket. It definitely is a sexy yet artistic picture. Having a back exposed is not a bad thing because i’m sure she wears a bikini and lots of people see her back. The dark picture with the tossled hair and the red lips is not promoting a fun day on the beach in a bikini…it is implying sex. If she was older and not a child-star it would be completely acceptable. If i had kids I would still let them watch her show.

You people get a grip…she has been under the microscope and they were just waiting for her to mess-up or slip. She could have been picking her nose and that would have been all over the papers!!!! Give her a break I have a 9yr. old and have no problem with her being a fan of Miley’s. She made a mistake and we really don’t know what was behind the pictures.

Look, Annie Lebowitz doesn’t do “Olan Mills” photography. She’s an artist who strives for incendiary. With Miley’s squeaky clean Disney image, she didn’t have to strive very far.

The only problem the public has with this photo is that it shattered an image. An unrealistic image of a 15 year old girl that’s as make believe as Cinderella.

Lebowitz has a way of getting what’s inside of you out. Miley and her family initially thought the photo was perfectly natural and beautiful. Now, they don’t. Pressure has come to bear and a career is on the line.

So much for Miley’s Mona Lisa moment.

The irony of all this outrage (and I do think the photos were inappropriate for a 15 year old) is that it will benefit Miley’s career.

True, some parents will forbid their kids from buying Miley Cyrus CDs, but that will only make Miley Cyrus more desirable to tweens who want to rebel against their parents or social norms.

The best way to get kids reading books is to ban books. The best way to get people to buy Miley Cyrus CDs is to declare her immoral.

That being said, its a shame that someone like Cyrus can gain so much notoriety by posing in a vaguely suggestive manner. I hope these pictures do not give young girls the idea that the way to fame in society is to act like a sex symbol. Women (and teen girls) are much more than sexual objects, but all too often, the media portrays them as sex objects rather than complete individuals.

The whole thing transcends Miley Cyrus. In 5 years, some similar story will occur with some new 15 year old teen celeb whose behavior pushes the boundaries of good taste. Really, this is more about our society, and the troubling fact that their is a large market for these sorts of things, than about Miley Cyrus.

ENOUGH ALREADY! She is ajust a 15 year old kid - why blame her! Blame the photgrapher & magazine that saw an opportunity to take advantage of a 15 year old & make lots of money. At the age of 15 you do not have the thinking capacitiy to see the future fall out of your actions, Besides that the Levovitz woman is a shark that preyed on a young impressionable kid saying she will looke beautiful - what teenage gril does not want to hear that. Miley said she is sorry - GIVE HER A CHANCE. ALL of you should remeber the mistakes you maed & the ones your kids will make - will you disown your kids - were you disowned? What must it be like making human mistakes with the world looking on. Stop the talk - if you are so outraged - all this talk is doing is SELLING Vanity Fair magazines. If you are so outraged boycott the magazine & love & support & pray for Miley. I love this kid - I think she deserves a chance to redeem herself. Give the kid a break!!!

Remember Annie Lebowitz did a photo shoot of the Queen of England prior to the Queen coming to America (when the Queen went to the Kentucky Derby). Annie wanted the queen to bring one of her horses into the palace, get on it in full robes, sceptor, and crown for her ‘art’ photographs. The queen declined. Then Annie objected to the queen wearing her crown in the regular palace photographs. Remember Annie created a sensation with the pregnant and naked shots of Demi Moore for a mag cover. I suspect Annie of being less ‘art’ and more ‘trying to create sensations’. While I do believe that Miley made a mistake because of her age and inexperience in not telling Annie “NO”, I do think that Annie, Vanity Fair vultured and victimized Miley simply to sell magazines for Vanity and ‘hype, sensation, fame’ for Annie. I don’t think Miley’s parents were ‘on top of this’ situation before it became a situation either, so they too need to own their part. Big lesson learned for Miley, sad as it all is.

The fault lies with her publicists and managers. Billy Ray left the shoot early to catch a plane for a performance, but the publicist was there. Personal publicists are the gate keepers and can — and do — say no to many things their clients are asked to do. They showed poor judgment and she trusted them. Disney had nothing to do with the shoot and in fact, cannot ask Miley to do anything without the clearance of her personal team of managers and publicists. Everyone has been blaming Disney, her parents, etc., when in fact it was her personal “protectors” who let her done. That is how these things work.

Look, Im a DJ at both a counrty and ACH station and If you look at her (Miley) career over the last year she’s trying to break into the ACH market from the “teeny bopper” market that made her famous. First shes now going by her name, which she had legally changed to Miley Cyrus from Destiny Hope Cyrus a couple of months ago, instead of Hannah Montana. 2nd she released a very different song in “see you again” that is hugely popular right now on the ACH charts so It seems to be working. I think this photo shoot is just a continuation of that. Remember in the “hollywood” world there is NO SUCH THING as BAD publicity. I think the Photo was intentional and her dad and disney new about it and approved it. I feel like they knew there would be a bit of a back lash but again, bad publicity is STILL publicity. Yea, she’s 15 and yes she is just a child, but she is unlike any other 15 year old in the world right now. They weren’t X rated photos. They’re not even R or PG-13 for goodness sakes. It’s just her back and if you bother to do a little research, you’ll find she had her “front parts” covered under the blanket. How many young ladies, that she is a “role model” for read vanity fair anyway? Her listening audiance will only love her more for this and that was the goal all along. I know how this business works, trust me, this photo was intentional and in my opinion…it’s doing it’s job. The people that listen to her are rallying and the people that didn’t really know alot about her are now talking about her. Well played.

  • hotelmotel says:

I agree with BigBiLL’s statement, “Her listening audiance will only love her more for this and that was the goal all along.”

And “The people that listen to her are rallying and the people that didn’t really know a lot about her are now talking about her. Well played.”

I think Brad Paisley’s song, Celebrity, also summed it up well: “The more the run my name down/The more my price goes up.”

We hoped that things would work out for Billy Ray and
Miley. It looked like they had nice values when they
were on interviews, magazine articles…etc. After
a long week of work, homework, etc…, we enjoyed
watching and laughing at the Hannah Montana show.
I even thought Miley was a good role model for young girls.

Yes, everyone makes mistakes. I just thought that their
family values would keep them safe from the pitfalls of
being in the “Industry” The Vanity Fair photos seemed
to be contrary to their values as portrayed to the public.

I will be looking into the “real world” for role models
such as teachers, fire people, moms, dads, people that
care …etc. Actresses and Actors seem to live in
    a different world!

Best Wishes to the Cyrus family!

Im not against miley, but im not for her either. She is 15 for crying out loud! Im sure its hard to be a teen, and have so much pressure on her on being the “role model” and being the little kid disney show star, goody goody. I mean really, wouldnt you get sick of it yourself if you were in her shoes???? She still has a life!

But then again, everyone has standards. She does have a reasponsibility of being her and haveing a contract and everything. She should know that with the press, and them, that everything she does will reflect on her future. That is a big responsibility for a 15yr old to handle.

I think though, she is very mature to handle it. I still luv ya miley!!! STAY COOL! and dont end up like Britany Spears!! lol
