LeAnn Rimes’ Dance Routine Blew Me Away

Posted: April 19th, 2008 at 8:09 am  |  By: Whitney Self

I’ve seen my fair share of dancing on award shows. I use the word “dancing” loosely because most of the time it seems quite awkward and bizarre. Beyonce, for instance. I’ve tried to understand her strange convulsion-like hip movements and arm spasms. Maybe I’m missing something in the dance world, but it usually looks forced and unnatural. Most of the time I watch artists dance because of the entertainment value, not because of their actual talent. But during the CMT Music Awards, I watched one artist in awe: LeAnn Rimes completely blew me away. Not only did she flawlessly sing “Nothin’ Better to Do,” which she co-wrote, but she moved like a professional throughout the entire song, not missing a single beat. Check out the performance.

(Either JavaScript is not active or you are using an old version of Adobe Flash Player. Please install the newest Flash Player.)

From the moment she walked on stage, Rimes portrayed her character from the music video, Annie Jewel, a prison convict. Along with her backup dancers disguised as other fellow inmates, she wore a strikingly short blue uniform with sexy black fishnet stockings and fashionable ‘50s hairdos. From her fire-red lipstick to the matching fingernail polish, Rimes’ performance was truly a one-of-a kind routine. I watched several times looking for a flub. There isn’t one to be found.

And I have to admit, I’ve completely tried to steal her dance moves. You know that little clap move she does mid-song? I’ve almost got it down. It’s pretty impressive, plus it’s a great workout. Perhaps in Beyonce’s spare time, she could take a lesson or two from LeAnn Rimes. You know, when she’s got nothin’ better to do.

Beyonce is over rated fluff talent designed for the mass market of the uninformed and artistic illiterate. I don’t hate her I just call it like it is.

I love Beyonce but her booty shaking has no comparison to Dean Sheremet’s corriography and LeAnn’s delivery. Is Faris and Sarif a mirror dimension duo personality conflicting with each other? LOL!!! LeAnn Rimes is the real deal and stands on her own without having to be compared to anyone else. Get real.

The reprisal of LeAnn’s video on stage was hot but I object. There was so many young kids especially girls that came to see Miley for the CMT awards that reprising this video with the short blue prison garb and the garters and black stockings was a little too much for me, in only respect for that portion of the audience and the message it may have sent to them. I do understand these awards are for a larger audience than that particular situation. But add the remark about rolling around in bed with Bon Jovi all day when accepting her award and her dress needing at least two more scallops of material at the bottom about did it for me. I just want to say, “Yes, LeeAnn, we know you are a sexual person, but you don’t have to rub our faces in it.”

Give me a friggin’ break “kayefun”!!! LeAnn is probably one of the greatest role models that young girls can have. She was on the scene the same time as Britney and all of those other pop princesses (now dethroned) and I’d much rather have our Daughters emulating LeAnn. Yeah, she’s hot. Get over it!!! I am tempted to say something along the lines of being willing to rub my face in it but that would just not be right. LeAnn is a WOMAN now, not a little girl with a big voice. Curse Taylor Swift for taking her shoes off for that gross display of public nudity….sheesh! Keep rockin’ it, Le!

SHE TRYS TO BE SOMETHING SHE IS NOT. THOSE CLOTHES SHE HAD ON AT THE AWARD SHOW WAS TERRIBLE. AND SAYING SHE HAD FUN IN BED WITH BON JOVI SHOULD OF BEEN SAID SOMEWHERE ELSE ON TV.

I disagree with the writer. I thought Leanne sounded winded and went flat after her first dance bit and it got worse. At the end I could barely hear her singing. Of course, it would be very hard not to get winded dancing then have to sing, but she chose it. I liked the dancing in the video better. I thought the dance bit at the awards show was too over the top for the event and audience. I know she has good legs, but she does wear her dresses way too short.

i agree with A she’s trying WAY to hard to b something she’s not and had a terrible outfit on! oh and give me a break Leanne Fam public nudity?? yea right Taylor just took her shoes of i guess thats a crime now!

LeAnne Rimes does not show too much. My mom always told me that if I want to show off skin, show either legs or boobs, not both at once. LeAnne just showed off legs, it is not like her boobs were popping out of her dress.
If somebody has a problem with a pretty girl with hot legs showing off said hot legs, then that person should reconsider their unfulfilled lives, since apparently they do not have enough sex in their lives. How sad it must be for you. :(
Also, Taylor Swift writes songs about “kiddie grap”, (by the way bkb, you misspelled the word) because guess what, she is a kid. She just turned 18. Do you really want somebody who is barely legal to be singing about sleeping with her boyfriend, and then have your teenage daughters listen to it? Taylor Swift writes songs that she relates to, and I for one, a teenage girl, am really happy to have a singer out there that does not try to act older then they really are.
For everybody who bashed somebody on this blog, get a grip. It is not right to bash somebody, even if they are famous. Nobody should be tearing somebody down, especially women against women. We have enough problems with guys telling us how “slutty” we are, we do not need other women telling us. Other women in fact should be standing up for us. The next time you trash somebody, no matter who you are, maybe you should look at yourself, because most people who are mean to others are actually insecure in their own lives.

Um, Brianna, you missed my point. The Taylor/shoe thing was SARCASM (look it up in the dictionary if you’re confused). It was MEANT to be absurd just as all the puritan comments on the dress were/are. And Bucky, LeAnn never said she “had fun in bed” with Bon Jovi. She was making a cute joke that morons took seriously. Funny how nobody is pissing and moaning about the (comical) disrespect between Miley Cyrus and Billy Ray (her Father) or about Tim and Faith crooning about screwing all night and day (didn’t bother me but it’s funny how people pick their nose until they find the booger they want to chew on). And LeAnn was being exactly what she IS. But hey, you negative jokers are definitely “much cooler online.” And you prudes should really stick to audio.

I have to say I LOVED LeAnn’s performance!! It wasn’t too over the top or in your face. Her outfits were chosen with a purpose behind them..not just to show skin. Her performance outfit obviously came from the video .. and I’ve seen alot of comments various places on the net bashing LeAnn for recreating the video live onstage…but I think it was a totally fitting idea since this was an award show based on videos. As for the comment in her acceptance speech, I found that very entertaining. It was meant to be comical and honestly I think LeAnn was so shocked by the win that she was saying whatever popped into her head. I think people need to grow up and give LeAnn a break…b/c no matter what she does someone always tries to turn it into a negative. As I said it was an AMAZING performance and I would have no issue allowing my nieces who happen to be fans of LeAnn’s watch that performance!!! As for bashing other artists …. it’s uncalled for and it just makes the artist you are trying to defend look bad b/c their fans act that way! The whole night was full of comical moments that if you decide to take them completely seriously are very negative but if you take them the way they are meant, all in good fun, they are funny!!!!!!!!

May I suggest that parents stop shoving artists into the lives of their kids as role models. You would think that after seeing the like of Spears, Lohan, etc. falling off the way that parents will choose to be role models for their children rather than looking to celebs to set examples. I mean, do you know how celebs are in private?

As for children coming out to see Miley Cyrus, maybe next time, CMT won’t call on a 15 year old to host their show.

    Ridiculous.

I dont care what anyone says, Beyonce is the best. No one can match her stage presense. She is equally compelling when she is just standing there or when she is in motion. And I love her “forced and unnatural convulsion-like hip movements and arm spasms.” To me it seemed that LeAnn just stood there half the time, plus there are other valid forms of dance. Seriously, I want to know what performance you were talking about. I can understand dissing Beyonce, one of the big dogs, to get people to read your blog. LeAnn is great (my favorite country star) but she cant compare to Beyonce on stage. To the left, to the left!

I enjoyed LeeAnn’s perfomance on the CMT Awards show. I have been a fan of hers since she started at age 13. She has to be good to be around as long as she has. I hope the awards shows bring her back again to perform. She is really a talented performer,

Fan’s can’t look at things objectively can they? They are a fan 24/7. Ms. Rimes can dance and sing. The problem remains that she is over the top with the “sex’act…her rolling in the bed with Bon Jovi..and the dresses up her her butt..An excellent singer that’s basically now an exhibitionist.. If this is how she needs to get attention it’s pretty shallow. It was inappropriate bump and grind for a family show..simple as that…Country music has rarely in the last 20 years been something you have to hide your children from and can not watch in mixed company.
If you want to see strippers bump and grind I’ll watch the Playboy channel…so you little bim bulb fans…send your star in a better direction. She is too talented for such cheap tricks.

i just happened to see leann rimes last night w/kenny chesney. SHE WAS AWESOME!!! i never disliked her, she started her career when i wasnt into country music so i never followed her career. however & thank u god i now am a total country chick & started really liking her again 2-yrs. ago. i admit before last nights show i did look @ her discography just 2 refresh & forgot her very 1st hit “blue”. i listened again & remembered how everyone talked about her age & voice at such a young age. well she sang it last night!! she has the same beautiful voice she had than. but, she totally nailed todays “nothing better to do”. she nailed her ballads & had a blast w/her quicker songs. she rocked the shit out of cheap tricks “i want u 2 want me” & did it all in a sparkly mini-dress w/a pair of heels on the hottest legs!! trust me, if shes in ur town, spend the $$$ you wont regret it

I loved LeAnn’s performance at the awards show. Even when she sounded a little tired she delivered the high notes. Hope this gives her new single some well deserved airplay. I don’t think its fair to try and compare her to Beyonce. LeAnn probably would not say that. She did well on her own rite.

I just watch a Biography of Kenny Chesney on the Biography Channel and based on what I saw one of the smartest business move any country music artist can make is going on tour with Kenny Chesney. So kudos to LeeAnn Rimes’ management for doing just that. I was really glad to see a fan who saw LeeAnn in concert give such a glowing observation. It’s a first rate and reasonably priced show and it is geared to increase fan base. Thanks to Jamie for saying what I couldn’t get across earlier that LeeAnn’s singing and dancing is just great and she’s too good a talent to cheapen her image otherwise.

LeAnn is trying to grow as an artist. Now she writes some songs and is starting to introduce a little dance into the show. Good for her. If ya ain’t growin’, you’re dyin’ As for her “too short a skirt” as some have suggested, this is showbiz folks. She was wearing underwear you know? You’d see much more in a bathing suit at any beach. Get over it!

LeAnn has become more famous for selling her body to magazine covers than she has for singing.

That is what she is about now. Her die hard fans might like to say she is a great role model and things and maybe once she was, but now she is no different to any of the other young female artists selling their sex to get extra attention. Some people can just sing and write great music and the world notices. Others have to take their clothes off.

Well, Whitney, it looks like you’ve drummed up some controversy here. I still have to say I agree with you though. LeAnn is a fantastic talent and her performance was stunning. As for those who think Beyonce is better and LeAnn isn’t an appropriate role model, I’d have to say I’d much rather see kids watch LeAnn’s performance than Beyonce’s booty shaking and seductive moves on stage. I don’t think LeAnn was over the top here. It was tastefully provacative, but not obscene. Good blog!

LeAnn is definitely the best female country singer in the business, and the fact that she is adding sex appeal and singing to her performance/video’s is terrific. Not since Barbara Mandrell has a country female been concerned with dancing and putting on a show. Hopefully, LeAnn will take a note from Barbara and continue along the same path.
For those that feel she is too sexy or trying to hard, they can merely change the channel. The mindset that supports a “trashy” image of LeAnn, shows that country is still too conservative, judgmental and sexist. Where were these comments when the guy showed his butt on the Rascal Flats video?
LeAnn doesn’t pose a threat to anyones values. Give her (and yourself) a break from such nasty comments and enjoy the music.

Wow, what a fantastic song and video from the CMT Award Show. If CMT continues to produce award shows like this one, watch out America Idol for this show rocked. I agree with Whitney with the moves, simply well done. I love the 50’s look in the hairstyle and the whole ‘aire of the stage performance. Wonderful work.

Wow, I am totally shocked by the conservatives who post around here. LeAnn was nearly COVERED in clothing, yet you would think that she pulled a “Madonna” and slithered on stage in a white wedding dress.

LeAnn, as evident from many blogs I have read, stole the CMT’s and showed her stage presence to a huge audience.

Hey Whitney, great blog! This song is phenominal along with her dance moves and singing. It amazes me how well so many dancers can dance such a complex dance and stay together; while Leann Rhimes doesn’t miss a beat on her song! I have always loved Leann Rhimes, she puts so much passion and desire into everything she does. I wish her the best in everything she does!
