God Bless Kellie Pickler
Watching Kellie Pickler's acceptance speech at Monday night's (April 14) CMT Music Awards, I could only think, "God bless artists before they get too jaded and start taking things for granted." Some good people have succumbed to those emotions, but maybe that's just one of the dangers of achieving massive success.
I hope Pickler -- and Taylor Swift and other artists, for that matter -- never lose sight of the fact that they are, first and foremost, country music fans. Pickler and Swift have acknowledged their appreciation of other artists in numerous interviews, and their wide-eyed, youthful enthusiasm seems to support their statements.
Pickler's "I Wonder" won in three categories at the CMT Music Awards, and she was at a loss for words during her acceptance speech which came in a satellite feed from Arizona, where she was performing Monday. After thanking the usual suspects -- the record label, management company, etc. -- she finally said, "If I forget to say your name, it's not because I forgot you. Well, it is because I forgot, but I don't know what to say right now."
It was a moment of genuine honesty, humanity and humility. And those are three things that country music is supposed to be about.

Linda Taylor says:
I love this song, because like in the song I also am raising my grandson. I look at him and ofton wonder what he would say to his mother if she should ever come back. He just turned 14 and is very special young man.
Kim says:
I’m so happy for Kellie, she was so sincere when she sang this song and I’m sure there were many tears shed throughout the country as they watched.
Apryl says:
I was a bit embarrassed for her. If there was ever a “dumb blonde” moment, last night was it! She acted like a “ding dong”..
John says:
There’s always the dampening showers of “Apryl” to rain on people’s parade.
I’ve seen enough Awards’ ceremonies to know such moments of delightful joy and honesty can happen to anyone and not only the blondes.
kayefun says:
I really like the fact that Kellie has an authentic, honest personality and I know she was flustered. She forgot to say Thank you to her fans and tried to remember all the business people. Biz people come and go, but your fans will stay forever especially with a simple ‘Thank You.’ I don’t think she’ll forget that again.
jerry says:
please help us our cmt has been biocked off
Alicia says:
I also feel that Kellie acted like a dumb blonde, even my boyfriend who loves blondes said he does not like her cause she acts dumb. Plus i still don’t understand why she won the award for her performance. To me and others it was so fake heck i can make myself cry like that too.I really do like the song but not cause of her i have personal reasons why i like the song. I am from the town where she is from but i am not one of the Pickler fans sorry.I feel that Sugarland should have won the award for their performance of Stay. Now thats an awsome song.
Selena says:
Alicia, boy are you jealous or what, Kellie is awesome, honest, and surely did not expect to win, so of course did not have a speech ready…she was truly happy and surprised…she is a true down to earth person, maybe a little dumb at times, so what!!
Huck says:
Selena,
I have some ocean-front property I’d like to sell you.
dana says:
Kellie deserved to win and she was obviously really surprised that she won. It’s a shame that she wasn’t there to pick up her awards. Especially since her best bud Taylor presented the award! :)
Kelli says:
Kellie deserved to win all of the awards she did, and then some. She is genuine, honest, and even though she may be a bit goofy at times, I think her heart is in the right place. She’s a gifted singer and I think she’s going to go places in this business.
Circle 8 says:
I am glad she won. It is a song from the heart, just like Jennifer Nettles “Stay”. I imagine the vote was very close.
As for being nervous how many of you remember Alan Jackson on stage when he received his first award. He was so nervous he could not stop talking. As far as who should have won, she did this time so get over it. Next time someone else will win and if you don’t like that winner, well get over it.
I am assuming you “complainers about petty things” missed the school bus this morning. You must whine about everything.
Nikki C. says:
Congratulations Kellie! You certainly deserved the four awards you got!
Kevin R Douglass says:
I didn’t know you was so rich………..26 federal plaza nyc ny????????????????
hotelmotel says:
I think Kellie Pickler’s dumb blonde routine is an act. It doesnt seem sincere to me.
That said, she has a decent voice.
Cindy R. says:
I must say, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Kellie sing that beautiful song and “seriously” break down. I cry every single time I see it, even when I hear the song now I visualize her on stage and I cry. Some people just have to find fault and not the good in people.
Love ya Kellie!
hotelmotel says:
By the way I’m not opposed to singers inventing personas in popular music, which, after all is “show business.” What I object to is people being bamboozled into thinking they are hearing something sincere when that something is really just a show.
Rob Aldrich says:
Even if it were true, just what is wrong with being a “dumb blonde”? If that’s the way God made you, its fine by me.
In Kellie’s case, I believe her. She didn’t think she would win against her stiff competition and didn’t prepare. She was probably also distracted figuring out what to do with all the money in her bank account.
Mike says:
Those that have followed Kellie know that her sincerity and class are not an act.
Those without class will never get it.
Patrick says:
ahh…is it me…?
She is a singer right?
Cause I don’t hear anyone talking about singing.
Of course with Kellie I can understand why.
You love kellie, I get it, but can she sing?
Not really, she’s just ok and I thought the country music industry nurtured real talent. Not a barnyard of cute blondes.
Mike says:
Patrick: We’re not talking about her singing because that’s not what the blogger was writing about.
If she couldn’t sing, she wouldn’t have won three awards. Obviously, millions of people think you’re tone deaf.
hotelmotel says:
Mike - I don’t think ability to sing and winning these sorts of awards are very well correlated.
Honestly, every medium sized high school has a chorus with at least two girls who can sing better than Kellie Pickler.
I wish Pickler luck, and her voice is certainly tolerable, but she is far from being a great singer. Her popularity comes from her persona, not her voice.
Dr. Evil says:
Kellie is probably one of the best singers in country music today. Her label and the music industry try to play her down by not showing you just how powerful of a singer she really is. “I Wonder” isn’t the only song where Kellie has left concert goers in tears when she performs. She’s had them weeping by the buckets while singing other songs in concert from her cd as well. And when she’s not doing that she’s blowing country music fans away with performances like the one on youtube called Kellie Pickler Never Before Heard Song. It’s a video of her singing one of her new songs at a Rascal Flatts concert, it has #1 written all over it, yet you’ll probably never see her label release it as a single for that very same reason. Why do you think it is they didn’t allow her to appear at the CMT award show? It’s because she would make some of these other acts they’re trying to push look like amateurs in comparison. Thats why.
As for the awards Kellie won, I hope someday she makes a music video in which she blows them all to bits and shows the music fans what they are truly worth, which is nothing thanks to the manipulation in the country industry today. That’s my opinion.
brianna says:
you are so preety!
fdafdsafd says:
hotelmotel: If you’re not a fan, you have no idea why her fans love her.
You really should seek counseling if you think you’re omniscient
qcmaggie3 says:
From one downhome old gal to another, Kelly Pickler is not an act.I can spot them a mile away. She is the most genuine person I’ve seen come along in a long time. It is refreshing to see someone who is not so full of themselves and truely grateful when her public acknowledges her. She deserved the awards she won and I hope there will be alot more in her future because she is a rising star. Go Get Them KELLY
