Around the Web: Coverage of CMT Music Awards

Posted: April 15th, 2008 at 4:24 pm  |  By: Link Ray

In the end, it’s all about who wore what. For some Web sites, anyway. Miley Cyrus, Carrie Underwood and Faith Hill and others get critiqued for their attire at the 2008 CMT Music Awards. But Hill’s rep says a flowing tunic topic doesn’t mean the singer is pregnant.

In more post-show news, Jason Aldean gushed over Snoop Dogg, remarking that when he calls you a pimp it’s the ultimate compliment. Seriously?

And Taylor Swift gives her play-by-play commentary of the entire night, up until the part where she is FREAKING OUT.

Determined not to be pigeon-holed as just a singer/songwriter/actor, Tim McGraw has written a children’s book due out this fall. And his latest greatest hits package is due out later this month.

Yes, Kenny Chesney is known for his stadium shows. But what if you could see him in a small room with only a few hundred people? If you live in Chicago and listen to radio station WUSN you can.

And Billy Ray Cyrus tells OK magazine he’s trying to be Miley’s BFF. Get in line, dad.

The last year or so I have heard so much about Miley Cyrus. I never heard her sing until yesterday. I looked at my wife and said “is there something wrong with the stereo?” I was in shock. The girl really can not sing. She would never have past an American Idol audition. I don’t see what all the hoopla is about. Her dress was another story. Maybe she should be a model instead. If she was my daughter she would not have been out of the house looking like a 20 something. She is a child and should not be dressing like an adult. I noticed when I played it back again that there were NO shots of the crowd during Miley’s song. Every other artist was shot from on stage and off stage so you saw the crowd but not Miley. Were people making faces like the singing wasn’t good or something? That would be my guess since that is what we were doing at my house. Besides the Cyrus duo we loved the show. CMT does a great job, just choose a new MC next time.

Well, I thought Miley did a great job of hosting, however, Billy Ray was just trying waaayyy too hard to be funny and to fit-in with his daughter and the young crowd, I thought.

But I have one question, why wasn’t the Johnny Cash Visionary Award given out this year?

Unfortunately I was not impressed with the show this year. Is Miley & Dad our best choice as host? Come on ! This show was geared to 13 to 16 yr. old chickie babes. The likes of Snoop Dogg and others that are clueless about country music have no business being presenters of awards. You are insulting our intelligence. And can you come up with a dozen more video categories? Enough already. Bring “Country” back into CMT.

I am a huge fan of CMT and I watched the awards show on the 14th and for the most part I didn’t like it. I don’t like how country music has gone pop and I didn’t like the fact the Miley Cyrus was a host. They say the results are voted on by the fans but I don’t get how it can be. Where do we vote? I am not paying to text in my vote and lots of people do not have access to a computer, so are we to mail them in or is there a number to call? I watch CMT all the time, when I get home from work and I’ve never once seen any commercials advertising anything about voting. While watching the show all I could think of was did these girls get together before the show and decide their skirts and dresses were to long? I mean come on Taylor and Miley your fan base is mostly little girls! Can you please take that into consideration! And I’m sorry but the comments that were meant to be cute between Miley and her father were horrible. So who do point the finger at when Nashville is over run with little smart mouthed girls in micro mini skirts? That being said here’s my HUGE issue with this years award show- Where was Garth? Seriously! I like Carrie Underwood and I love Tim, Faith and Kenny, but where was Garth? Enough of the pre-teens, teens whatever. Can we please bring country music back where it belongs?

I love them but Tim & Faith need to call Kenny up and get some diet tips on how he stays fit. Kenny always looks great!!

I would like to know about the girl who ran on stage when Toby Keith was singing. Was she just a random fan?

I am a strong supporter and fan of country music and CMT in general however, I feel compelled to say that the 2008 CMT Awards Show was the worst production of any awards show I have ever seen. I would assume by today the corporate structure will have figured that out and the planning and production staff is working somewhere else.

Poor Billy Ray was pitiful but Miley was absoluty great maybe they should have asked Snoop Dog to do the commentary (What was that about). The show has always been the best country event of the year and I sure hope they get it worked out. By the way as always the music acts were great.

I watched the show up to Alan Jackson’s performance, and after he sang, I changed the channel.

I’m suprised no one has said anything, but Taylor Swift, REALLY!!!? She is total bubble gum. There’s nothing country about her and there’s nothing real in her music.

Ok, first of all, I grew up on country music and I loved the days of Tim, Faith, Johnny, and Brooks and Dunn and I still love their music. I just don’t see the problem with ushering in a new generation of country superstars and I don’t think the rest of the country sees a problem either considering Taylor Swifts numerous accalades of the past few years. She is not “bubblegum” whatever that rediculous comment is supposed to mean, she’s real. She’s a song writer and she never gets a big head. Just read her myspace, the girl is a hero to the youth of America and it’s about time they had someone good to look up to. Also, Miley never claimed to be a “country” singer her Daddy is a country singer and she sings a very country song with him making her just like Kelly Clarkson in that respect (Kelly sang with Reba that doesn’t make her “country”). And for those of you who say Miley cannot sing, give me a break, she’s 15 lay off of her, and make sure you make that statement very loud in a room full of 12 year old girls…You may have a lessened capacity to hear once you get the screaming to stop. She happens to be a very talented young lady. Personally, I’m thankful that country singers don’t fit in a cookie cutter form because that would be boring people! Oh, and Toby Keith and Alan Jackson definitely rocked that stage!
