Around the Web: What’s Going On, Besides the CMT Music Awards

Posted: April 14th, 2008 at 6:59 pm  |  By: Link Ray

In an excerpt from author Joe Nick Patoski’s new book, Willie Nelson: An Epic Life, you can start to see how Nelson’s stubborn ways earned him his icon status.

There is nothing new about him, and that’s just what The Tennessean digs about George Strait and his latest album.

Does marrying a musician increase your earnings? This story takes a close look at what star nuptials — like Tim & Faith — do to sales.

Lady Antebellum hits People.com to talk about meeting each other, stumbling onto a band name and stocking the bus with Sour Patch Kids. And band member Charles Kelley opens up to the Charlotte Observer about how he just wasn’t cut out for the working life in North Carolina.

I think it is an outrage that Taylor Swift won anything. She can’t sing at all.How can they compair her to the likes of Kenny Chesney or anyone that can hold a note.
She needs to give the award back.It should go to some one that can sing. She is a real bad singer.

What wonderful talent was on the CMT awards tonight but what TERRIBLE hosts. They cheapen a normally wonderful show with uncomfortable pauses and ridiculous jokes. Please bring back Reba, Brooks & Dunn, Vince Gill, Big and Rich, etc.!!!

I don’t follow canned country or rap, but I have to say that it’s sad how Snoop Dogg got booed since he’s more of a man that most of those velvet-lined-hat, pansy cowboys from Germany who celebrate hanuka. What ever happened to Jews who are real men, like Ty Murray? I bet he didn’t boo the Dogg.

The show was a disappointment. I can’t believe that the American public voted on such people as Taylor Swift and Trace Adkins for the awards they received. Neither of them can sing. Taylor has written some good songs but only sounds good in a recording studio where they can help the sound! And LeAnn Rhimes, who taught her how to dress?? She must think she’s sexy in those outfits, but far from it……tacky is more like it. I can’t believe her video beat out the others either. What happened to Kenny and Carrie?? They are the best!! At least Sugarland won!!

What was up with blocking out the best part of Keith Urbans performance last nite??? He was rockin it, but we couldn’t see anything!! Disappointing…Miley & Billy Ray were horrid…Taylor Swift can not sing. I have nothing against Trace Adkins, but his video wasn’t even close to being as good as ‘I told you so’ by Keith.

    Jerry,

That’s the best thing your cable company can do for you because you’re not missing ANY “country” music on CMT.

If you didn’t want Taylor or Trace to win, then maybe you should have voted more for other people. Both of these artists obviously have the talent if they have a big enough fan base to help them win the award. I thought Miley sounded terrible singing - she was trying too hard and oversinging.

Where do some of you people get off talking so bad about others? Whether you think they are good or not they are the ones on tv NOT YOU! Must just be jealous sitting at home…..and if you don’t care for it then don’t watch it! Yes I have some that I like better than others but that gives me no reason to put the ones down that are my least favorite. No one has any right to judge others!

I think it was a disgrace to hear counrty fans boo Snoop Dog, I am very disappointed in the fans who acted so disrepsectful they gave country fans a bad name. What ever happened to Southern Hospitality. So you don’t like his music Big Deal he wasn’t there to sing and if he was he was invited by CMT the people who put on the show. Stay home next time if you can’t show any more respect.

Jill…..We’re not jealous of these people. At least we know we can’t sing. These people think they can sing when they actually CAN’T.

Kelly, have you heard the so-called country music song that Snoop Dogg is trying to get made, involving the country music artists? He deserved every last boo he received that night.

Just viewed the awards. Was waiting with great anticipation for great performances. What happened? Was it a nitch in the sound system?Perhaps, lasodactical performances as witnessed tonight with poor selections as to what to perform(with the exception of Carrie Underwood;who is always good)expressed a minimiscule amount of thought and planning from the “rest of the bunch.” I love country….Why did it fall short this year?As a fan,I expected at least as much as last year in terms of performances and dress.Thoroughly boring.Reba said “see you next year.”Other than Carrie Underwood,I don’t want to waste my time with more of tonight.Give me a break. What was the problem.Fans expect more.Just a reminder to the performers…don’t take your fans for granted. You know, the underdogs who buy your music and put you on stage tonight.Makes me think twice regarding my next purchase.Carrie Underwood-yes.The rest-no.
