Nashville Without Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman
I don't even live in Nashville, and yet I'm still bummed that Keith Urban is off to Los Angeles. The L.A. Times reports that Urban and his wife Nicole Kidman have bought a $7 million, five-bedroom home in Brentwood, and will welcome their baby there in July. It's 5600 square feet of California contemporary, with walls of glass, koi ponds and views of the city. Things you can't really get in Nashville.
I'm sure they'll keep their Nashville place, too, along with Kidman's home in Sydney. But because Tennessee is home to such Southern hospitality, I pictured their little family living so peacefully down there, playing in the park in Leiper's Fork, or pushing the stroller into the Starbucks in Franklin.
In interviews, Kidman always raved about the lifestyle down there. So why are they leaving? Los Angeles strikes me as a place where there's a line between the haves and the have-nots, whereas Nashville has an "everybody's equal" vibe, where a star can pick up her dry cleaning without the paparazzi capturing her every move. I realize I'm doing a bit of geographical profiling, but this move seems like a bad idea.
Think about what this will do for Urban. Will he have to jump on a plane every time he has a writing session? Or will he find new co-writers in L.A.? And will he have to spend time away from the baby when he's recording back in Nashville, on top of the time he spends touring? Whatever their reasons are for opting to have the baby in California, I hope it's not a forever thing. That baby could very well be a banjo prodigy. So in time, he or she will need to be where that kind of music lives and breathes. Last time I checked, there was no Music Row along the Pacific Coast Highway.

Really? I recalled seeing so many pictures of them going to Starbucks, Target, Bread & Co. etc. And their Nashville neighbor LeAnn Rimes had mentioned in interviews that there were many paparazzi parked outside their house whenever Nicole and Keith are in town.
I can understand why they would want a house in LA. Their other two children live there.

Something is amiss here. The Nashville Post has published an article about them purchasing a huge Nashville home called the Queen of Northumberland for a primary residence until the farm is built. The LA home is secondary and gives them a place of their own when they are in LA to visit kids, do business or make a film or music video. They aren’t leaving town and both of them have said repeatedly that Nashville will be the main base for years to come.

they need to think about this a little harder if you have noticed LA. maybe a great place to perform because the vibe is there but so are the paparazzi they are really bad there i don’t think they would be left alone to do want they want without the world knowing about it at least in nashville they treat them like one of thier own why mess that up by moving where there is a little more glam and no privacy but good luck on whatever you decide i will always stand beside you

The bought a house in Nashville last week too, so why say they are leaving Nashville? Celebs have multiple homes these days, and she has business in LA, so why not have a home out there as well so she can be near her children.
Trying to stir the pot, they are not leaving Nashville.

What scares me is that the newpaper story does say “they are settling into a $7-million, contemporary-style home, where they expect to welcome their first child together in July.” This is not the national enquirer either people so I trust this source. anyways, where they decide to have the baby is probably where they will live because otherwise if was just for when they are out there then they’d be having the baby in Nashville. I know it’s none of our business but it wouldof been great to see them down in TN.!

Nicole has two children living in CA. With Keith and Nicole living (at least part time)in L.A., they will be able to spend more time with them.
They are building a home in TN, so I’m sure they will also spend time in Nashville.

First of all, consider where we’re all getting this information from - the media. At the very least, they’re guessing what Keith and Nic are going to do, at most, they’re trying to convince us that their “opinions” are facts so we believe the story. Keith and Nic have both said numerous times (in their own words) that they love Nashville and that’s where they want to settle down. As for the house in LA, Nic has said in several interviews that she would like a place in LA so she can be closer to her kids when she’s there. She is an actress after all, and spends time in LA. As for where the baby will be born - again, speculation on the part of the media. They’re trying to sell papers and get you to their website so they’re going to make the article as fantastic as they can. Nic has made no secret about how much she loves Australia and my guess is that if it is at all possible (given Keith’s touring schedule, etc.) that the baby will be born in Australia. Don’t be so quick to believe everything you read folks…take it all with a grain of salt and believe only about 1/8th of what you read. Especially when the writer hasn’t even talked to the subjects they’re writing about.

I do agree with this statement. He has based himself in Australia for a year now because of his wife’s work schedule. Now it’s time for Kidman to base herself in Nashville for her husband’s schedule. He has a new CD to record. Give & Take.

Im sure they wont base themselves in any one house..I heard they want to bring the child up in Australia so Im betting the house in LA is to be close to Nics kids and also to do with her work. The house in Australia will always be there Nics had it for about 8 years now and its in a beautiful spot..Last week they bought a house in Nashville for 3.4 million to live in while their farm gets buitl..so as you can see its probable nice to have homes where your work is so the kids and family can feel at home instead of living out of a suitcase in some motel room.
3 homes and lots of options to feel at home when work calls..seems like a good idea to me.But they arent moving out of Nashville.They are building a farm so Nic can have lots of animals and they can have space, for the family.

It’s also a misperception that Nic has to be in LA “because of her work”. In recent years, her films were shot in different places far from LA!

My money’s on Nashville - I’d love to go there! Nicole will never live in Nashville. It is not hip and chic enough for a diva like her. She will have the baby (or the surrogate will) wherever and then dump it with a nanny like all the other actresses do and like she did with her first 2 kids.

I’m not a Keith Urban fan, and it seem that the story may be false. But if they wish to live in LA, or merely own a home there, or what not, I think that is perfectly fine. I trust that Urban can figure out how to make that work with his career demands.
George Strait lives in Texas, but that hasn’t hindered his career. True, Strait doesn’t write, and Urban does. But LA has songwriters, too, and someone as wealthy as Urban should have no problem getting on an airplane when needed, if he has to go to Nashville. Moreover, Urban could also keep a house in Nashville and visit that city for extended periods when necessary.
If Nicole and Keith want a home in LA, I see nothing wrong with that. LA is a great city in which to live. I’m sure Keith Urban can figure out any problems with career logistics.
What really bothers me is this: this is Keith and Nicole’s life, and presumably they know what will make them happy far better than us internet-people do. I think we should lay off them and focus on the actual music instead.

The don’t have a house in LA, they didn’t purchase one but what does it matter to you. You read it, type your 100 words and that is your accomplishment for the day. At their age, Kidman was already working. As for Urban being led by the nose, I didn’t realise he was a wimp with no balls but what do I know and if he is then good on Kidman for being in command and telling him what to do. It is always nice for a woman to find his kind of sucker if that is the kind of man you think he is. Isn’t he FORTY years old?
I guess this is the bit where I tell Alison to take her blog entry on this matter and shove it up where the sun don’t shine. And better yet, to keep her advice for her own members of the family and friends who probably usually tell her to put a cork in it and mind her own business.

Think about it people- Nic works in LA, ususally, im assuming, and Keith works in Nashville, and they are both in Australia. Who cares where they raise their child?!? They have a private plane, so its not a big deal for Keith to wake up at 5 AM and fly to Nashville for a writing session and return home at like, 10 or 11 PM. And why cant the baby fly with them? If I remember correctly, there were DOSENS of Brangelina’s kids, and little Suri Cruise constantly boarding planes with mommy or daddy. Whats the big deal here? Who cares? I work as copy editor at a newspaper and I doubt the LA Times would have printed this story if they didn’t have the real estate transaction papers in hand. Just because a rep denied it doesn’t mean it’s false. I’ve lived in LA briefly and hope they choose Nashville over LA. I know it’s none of my business but as long as we’re giving opinions here I thought I would add mine to the list.

Fact Checker: I highly doubt that the LA Times copy editor would have a copy of the transaction papers with Keith and/or Nicole’s names in it. In fact, I highly doubt the copy editor even bother to do a fact check. Case in point:
- they wrote that Nicole lived in Brentwood before her divorce with TC. Not true! They lived in Pacific Palisades. There are LOTS of newspaper accounts of this over the years.
- They wrote that Nicole sold her “Brentwood” house four years ago. Again not true! There are lots of articles over the years that the only LA property she owned was in Pacific Palisades, and that was sold in Dec-2002, alomost six years ago.

FYI: they bought a house in Northumberland last week, they did not buy a house in LA.

Additionally, if the couple does buy a house in LA it would be quite normal, her other two children do live in LA. They visit often, with a baby, they would want a private house on a private street where they GO outside without the paparazzi.

Michele…you seem to be forgetting about children of divorced parents. Sometimes these children don’t get the luxury of seeing one parent, Nicole’s children are incredibly lucky that they can still see both their parents. Whether Nicole is thousands of miles away or just next door, I’m sure her children know she loves them very much!
