Trace Adkins Dispels Southern Stereotypes
For a short time in the ‘80s, a friend of mine was the mayor of Sarepta, La., a community whose population usually hovers somewhere just below 1,000. In 1996, years after my friend’s political career fizzled, I asked him if he’d ever heard of Trace Adkins, a Sarepta native who had just scored a Top 10 hit with “Every Light in the House.”
“Tracy Adkins?” my friend gasped. “You mean to tell me that he’s a country music star?”
Well, Adkins wasn’t really a star then, but the fact that my friend still knew him as Tracy — his given name — reminds me that it’s a long, long way from a little town in northwest Louisiana to hanging out with Donald Trump in a boardroom on the popular TV series, The Celebrity Apprentice. Believe me, the stretch of U.S. Highway 371 running through Sarepta is about as different from Fifth Avenue and Times Square as you could possibly imagine.
I’m sure the other Celebrity Apprentice contestants immediately underestimated Adkins because they thought he was a redneck. Most of us from the South aren’t too concerned about being branded as rednecks, but we do have a big problem when we’re perceived as possessing low IQs, bad teeth and a lengthy list of unspeakable vices. On the TV show, Adkins did a lot to dispel those stereotypes by conducting himself with true dignity and repeatedly demonstrating that just because you have a Southern accent, it doesn’t mean you’re stupid. Or lazy. Or unsophisticated.
Piers Morgan, a British tabloid editor and TV personality, managed to win the Celebrity Apprentice competition by outpacing the other contestants in fundraising activities, but those of us from the South owe Trace Adkins our gratitude for carrying himself in a manner that made us all look good.
See his new video, “You’re Gonna Miss This.”

BluesFloozy says:
Trace carried himself with such dignity and class. His intelligence, compassion and low-tolerance for bull made him the star of the show and he obviously earned the respect of the other celebs. We’re proud of you, Trace!
Carey says:
Trace was outstanding! He outclassed every other apprentice there. I am so proud of Trace as a person, and as a Country music star!!!
Robin says:
Trace is a a wonderful father, mentor, and role model. He showed us how to work at something being honest and respectful. I saw him and concert and he is the same way on the stage. He has no idea how proud of him we are. There are no words to express the way we feel. He’s a winner no matter what.
The strawberry frog says:
On one hand, you had Piers Morgan, ruthless, in-your-face, didn’t care what he had to do to get money out of someone’s pockets. On the other hand, you had Trace Adkins, ethical, low-keyed, giving 110% to a cause so close to his heart, with his entire 6 foot 7 inch frame oozing with class. Yeah, he’s from Louisiana, he’s a “good old boy” who’s clawed his way to the top in Nashville. I was born/raised about 15 miles from Sarepta, LA. I’ve always admired Trace, but through this Celebrity Apprentice, I was never so proud of him as I was last night. Way to go, Trace!!! You might have lost the war, but you certainly won the battle!!! You stood for what you believed in, hung in there, and gained the admiration and respect of the other celebrities. Remember, in the end, love wins.
Charlie says:
Trace is a true “southern gentleman”. I saw him in concert and he was great. He threw out his guitar pic and I got it. What a memory!!
Susan says:
I second the comment above by BluesFloozy (very well said). I only tuned in to watch Trace. He made us very proud. I am from the North, but lived in Nashville for 5 years and love country music. I respect Trace so much. He has not had a very easy life, from what I have read, and he and his family deserve all the best life has to offer. Good luck to his little girl. God Bless.
Jazz_purr says:
Way to go Trace! If you look up the words “Southern Gentleman” you should see a picture of Trace. He was always respectful of EVERYONE around him, even Piers and that could not have been easy. I hope everyone watching that show called today and made a donation to his charity. again…..WAY TO GO TRACE!!!
Molly’sMommy says:
Dear Trace,
We are so proud of you and the way you played the game. I looked forward to seeing you on TV and you brought something so refreshing to TV. I am someone who grew up in NJ and lived in the south for 16 years and now, we are back in NJ, so I know personally the big difference between the two! They don’t even have a country music radio station here, thankfully I have sirius in my van, and have your CDs, that my two little ones sing too! Too, too cute! Stay as wonderful as you are and know that you are much respected for the job that you are doing!
We love you!
Love, Molly and Sammy’s Mommy
Kerryann says:
Trace is truly inspiring as a father, a celebrity and a gentleman. He was a quiet, but effective force for his charity. He may have lost the war, but he won the battle for his charity. People will remember him for his positive actions and dedication to purpose. You are the winner in my book. Awesome job Trace.
Nicole says:
I thought Trace was awesome on the apprentice. In my eyes he clearly won. I love the fact that he is so down to earth and easy going. He was the highlight of the show, and I loved all his funny comebacks.
joanne says:
I am so proud of you Trace. You make me want to be a better person. Thanks for being you. Minnesota
Dawn says:
He was amazing. Funny, talented and very creative. No way he could compete with Piers connections but he was every bit as smart. I was so proud of how much everyone in New York, especially the contestants, liked him. And Ivanka, also. Go Louisiana Tech boy!!!!!!!! You made us all proud.
Meshell says:
I was disapointed that Mr. Trump didn’t recognize that while Pierce could bring in the money, Trace brought in the support. True that Pierce had a handful of rich friends show up and drop a couple hundred grand each, whereas Trace brought in less money but with more people. I think that it was a failure on the part of Mr. Trump and the Trump Organization to realize that although Trace raised less funds, he likely did just as much if not more for his charity in raising awareness of their cause amongst more of his friends. Involving a higher number of people with smaller pocketbooks shouldn’t not be seen as less valuable. Once the show is over which will be more valuable to the charities: A handful of people with deep pockets who have already given, or a much larger group of people that can communicate the cause of the charity to an even larger audience, albeit with smaller pocketbooks? Just my thoughts…
Katie says:
I thought Trace was an excellent representative for country music. I was disappointed that more stars from Nashville did not support him. You would think at least some of the bigger names could have supplied him with an auction item.
Ladytriker says:
This was the first apprentice that I have every watched. The only reason that I tuned in this time was to watch Trace. He was truly amazing at how he handled every obstacle that was put before him. He has raised tremendous awareness for The National Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network. Having a son with food allergies I understand how difficult it can be. I wish Trace and his family all the best.
Trace you were a true inspiration to how one should handle themselves in very difficult situations.
From North Dakota
Mark says:
Remember, Trace never was told he was fired by THE DONALD. He truly is a Gentleman.
sandy says:
trace,
you were the winner hands down great job and thanks for making me aware of this organization for food allergies
i didn’t realize how series it was.
kim says:
Almost hard to believe there is such a nice guy as Trace Adkins in the music business. Piers may have won the apprentice, as he deserved, for raising the most money but Trace won it as a humanitarian.
SandyeMinnesota says:
Those of us who live in the far North (Minnesota) also have been stereotyped. At least half the country thinks we’re stupid for living where there actually is a real winter (with snow!!) every year. Also, thanks to a movie named after a North Dakota town just across the state line from Grand Forks, Minnesota (get out your map!), a good share of the country thinks that every sentence we utter ends with “ay?”. Southerners have an excellent ambassador in Trace Adkins to help dispel the stereotypes they endure. Wish we were as fortunate on this end of the country. Great job on “Celebrity Apprentice”, Trace! In our eyes you’re still the winner!
Tracy says:
I have been following Trace for years and have always admired the way he handles himself. He has had his trials in life and he blames no one but himself for many of them. You can see his inner strength just by watching him and the way he carries himself. Trace I could not have been more proud of you or the way you handled yourself. With your education and your background of running your own business, you showed what a wonderful project manager you could be. It’s more than just the money; it’s the success of your team. You never stabbed anyone in the back and you always took the high road. Look at what you did for your charity and for country music. I for one now contribute to your charity. I was not aware of how dangerous it was to so many. Personally, I could not be more proud. You showed them money isn’t everything, you need friends who will have your back and be there for you and you need a team that will go all out for you. You have more class and Piers could ever hope to have. Personally, I got tired of him calling himself the “evil brit,” when everyone could see he was jealous of the support you had following you.
Janet says:
I have watched Donald Trump’s apprentice show since the very beginning. I never enjoyed it as much as I did with the “celebrity apprentice” series. I mainly watched because I am a country music fan, and Trace Adkins is my favorite. I was so very proud of the way he conducted himself. He is truly a gentleman, with honesty, compassion, respect for himself and others. All of the other contestants respect and admire him too. He was the winner by far in many people’s hearts and minds. He is a winnner in his family, his career, and he will stand forever a winner of the celebrity apprentice show. Good Luck Trace, and God Bless you and your family.
Andra says:
FAAN is an amazing chararity and I thank Trace from the bottom of my heart for his support of FAAN. I have a child with life threatening food allergies and it is so hard. No one would understand the daily never ending worry and work required to keep my son safe, no one except other parents of food allergic children and FAAN. FAAN fights for these children in the political arena and they provide us with information, endless support, and hope for a cure. Thank you FAAN and thank you Trace. You should have won. I am so proud that you are representing my son. Thanks!
Laura says:
I’ve not watched much of Apprentice, even only a few eps that Trace was on, but the last 2 mainly. I commend Trace for hanging on to his concealed temper (I would’ve lost it I’m sure)and showing himself to be the classy guy I think he is. I wish his charity, and daughter the very best- she was such a cutie in his video. I hoped he would have gotten more support as well (for the auction), but I’m sure only so much can be done in the short amount of time he was given and ALL those details he had to contend with. OMgosh, those Backstreet Boys are SUCH primma donna’s- they aren’t that impressive and THEY showed NO class-yuck!
Anyway, g-r-e-a-t job Trace- you did country music, and your fans PROUD!
Billprevails says:
Trace, Congratulations on being a great ambassador for country music and FAAN. Your showing on the Celebrity Apprentice was a great example of integrity and class; which always sticks around long after money comes and goes.
That little stunt that Piers pulled about withdrawing the food and wanting to get people drunk should have disqualified him right then and there. When will business people learn that the ends NEVER justifies the means, especially not in charitable work.
It was also great to see Ronnie Milsap and Eddie Montgomery backing you up. Trace, you’re a class act all the way.
Linda C says:
Trace Atkins is the perfect American gentleman. He is soft spoken, but when he speaks everyone listens. I am so glad that he appeared on The Apprentice because the world got to know him for the wonderful person he truly is. I knew of him, but did not know him like I do now, and I will miss not being able to watch him each week now. Trace, you know you did win last night….you won the hearts and respect of everyone who watched you. God Bless you and your family and may the future bring you all the goodness you deserve
Suzette says:
Trace was so intelligent, and showed america that there are
still humble, handsome, and family oriented men in the country. He is the winner because of his true character traits of what a family man should become. The show was an inspiration of he would give his life for his child. His wife and children should be so proud of him. He has opened my eyes to information of allergies and the seriousness of it. He is a family man first and a intertainer second. I was imspired by the show.
Sue says:
Nice to see all of these comments that are everywhere ! The overwhelming majority of people all day today over the radio and TV have said the same thing - Trace got ripped ! At least he walks away with dignity and self respect while Piers Morgan cant get what he has never had in the first place and never will
Becky says:
I disagree with the comments that Trace won the battle but lost the war. The only battle he lost was the money battle - he won the war by being the better man.
Todd MacSween says:
What more can be said..A real winner with integrity and honor…. Job well done !
HarleyHoney says:
I cannot believe the lack of support for Trace on The Celebrity Apprentice from The Country Music Industry. If I were Trace, I’d be insulted that so few of his fellow entertainers were there to support him. He would certainly have jumped in with both feet to help anyone else in the same situation. Just remember it’s easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to get into heaven.
As for Piers saying he was the project manager who won the most, Trace’s ideas were what made him win! He was right when he said had the show taken place in Nashville, he would have smeared Piers. He certainly is the winner in my book.
Cindy=0) says:
Way to go Trace! Everyone on the show wanted you to win & you did………you brought in the people……Piers had 2 people there…..actually 1 in person and 1 on the phone……geez……..he is very insecure! You are awesome & showed yourself to be full of class and a true gentleman…….I will go to see you in the future…..a whole new respect for you! I have a daughter with an allergy to tree nuts……very scary…and she is 6 too……..thank you & I will give….I didn’t know there was a charity to give to!
ECBlarney says:
A true Southern Gentleman will always behave with honor and dignity. It is far easier to cut the other person down than it is to stand up with honor.
I have food allergies. I “only” have a reaction without life-threatening complications. I had a reaction just last weekend, and after feeling sorry for myself for feeling so sick over the weekend, I got an email from a friend who spent the weekend in the hospital with her daughter. Her daughter has a severe life-threatening allergy to milk/eggs/nuts, and something accidentally got in to her food. She had an anaphylactic reaction. She is only two. So much for feeling sorry for myself.
Trace - you brought awareness to many people who would have never thought about food allergies. You brought awareness to FAAN. Had there been a way for real people to contribute online, and for all of our “little” contributions to count, you would be shocked at the amount of money that would have been contributed. I logged on to FAAN last night myself - joined up (long overdue) ordered some of the ADORABLE bears for my own children, and made a donation too. I challenge everyone else to go online and make even a small contribution. Every little bit counts (http://www.foodallergy.org/)
I helped at a FAAN walk last October in Maryland. I hope to do much more this year. I challenge others to do anything they can.
THANKS - you are a winner in my book. You are a winner in my children’s eyes. That counts a lot.
Kathy says:
It’s a shame Donald didn’t give the final two more time and allow them both to play to their strengths for raising money. Piers got to play to his strenth which is his rolodex of rich contacts. If Trace had been give a month to arrange a benefit concert with himself and maybe a few other country stars, he would have blown Piers out the water. Country music stars have raised millions of dollars over the years for all kinds of charities in this manner. I was disappointed more country celebrities were not able to come and support Trace but it is understandable since none of them live in New York and they work! Maybe if there is another country star on Celebrity Apprentice they will be a little more prepared for what will be expected. I love you Trace and have sent a donation to your FAAN charity. Too bad it can’t count in the final talley for the Apprentice!
country girl says:
Always new Trace was a great singer, but now I know what a great father, gentleman and an all around good guy.
Kathy MacLachlan says:
I was really proud of him! Dry wit, kindness, tolerance, savvy, they had to be impressed.
Doc says:
Trace would have had a lot more stars there for back-up the night of the auction, but that was also the night of a Country Music Awards show and most of the country music stars were attending. I’m proud to be a TA fan since 1998 and though his life has gone through some hard times, he handled his problems like the good man he is and has always been just one of “us”. And didn’t he look HOT in that gorgeous suit in the final!? WHEW!!
Tessa says:
Trace was THE STAR of the Celebrity Apprentice show! I may have really liked him before, but I love him now! What a great representative of Country Music and AMERICA! He is a great father, husband, entertainer, businessman and leader. He is just a great person . . . I could just go on and on! His creativity and brilliance truly shone through! I am disappointed that the show ultimately ended up being about TV drama and only the money. Trace did win the other two categories on the final task and Piers should have been booted at least 2 times prior to this final task. Both finalists charities are wonderfully worthy. Trace really out-classed everyone including “the Donald”. His integrity and character are definitely in place. The TV producers and Donald evidently think contrived drama is “good TV”. IT just makes me shake my head in disbelief. Congratulations to Trace and God Bless him and his precious family. I’ll be sending my contribution to FAAN along with my Trace Adkins fanclub membership! P.S. The second star of the show was Ivanka. She has integrity and a good head on her shoulders!
Beth says:
Trump was smart. I (& I’m sure many others) said I would quit watching after Trace got fired. Thought I would just keep up with it a couple of weeks & then wait a while to see who won. :)MAN was I wrong.
Honestly though, Trump said he would base it on THREE THINGS!! Trace won on 2 OUT OF THREE! That’s what made me MAD!
But hey-a Country Boy WILL Survive!
Diann says:
Trace,
You are the coolest!!!!! You represented the South with great class. I think Donald Trump is off the mark. We need more of what you represented. I feel that this is what is wrong with our society today. Congratulations on a job well done. Your music is great as well and congrats on your new #1 hit.
Carol Ann says:
From everything that I have heard, Trace won in every way but the title, from bringing awareness to a charity for a condition that was very misunderstood, and sometimes maligned, to being an outstanding individual, funny, likeable, and a true gentleman, a beautiful example of what a Southern gentleman is! I am from the New York City area, but I love country music, and Trace, and I have heard from several people how impressed they were with Trace from seeing him on Apprentice! Everything is coming roses for Trace now, from donations to his charity to the charity single going #1, to his albums charting, so he is the true winner!
And thank you, Mark, for a very interesting point. . .Trace never did hear those two words, YOU’RE FIRED, at the end, makes you think that, perhaps, in his own way, The Donald thinks that Trace is a winner, too!
Sara says:
Trace–you handled yourself with great class, respect & integrity. I too was disappointed that Trump could or would not allow “good” to win over “evil” & that the almighty $$$$ seemed to be what was more important to him than the virtues of a person. Thank you for not compromising your values to come out ahead. In my book — you’re the winner!!
Ann says:
Trace’s charity song is the number four downloaded song on Itunes. When all the numbers are in, we shall see who raised the most money for their charity, and from all of America, not just two rich friends.
Susan says:
Trace did such a great job on the show. He had class, style, brains and is sexy too. Even though he did not win as the Celebrity Apprentice, he is still the winner in my book.It was a disappointment that more country music people did not support Trace but I am glad he has gotten a lot of exposure for his charity and his music.
Matt says:
Trace was absolutely amazing. Not only was his performance top-notch, but he represented himself, his cause, and everyone like us in the greatest way possible. Congratulations Trace, I couldn’t be prouder to be a country music fan today.
buffalo,n.y. says:
Trace the last show was the best you had me laughing the black nail polish and wheat grass plus all the comments but master card should use you because the look on your face was priceless when you said black nail polish. You showed more class while on the show and treated people the way you would like to be treated. You are a true amercian. But please don’t let the backstreet boys near him ever again. I had fun watching the show and you.
Ilona says:
I would love to have to work for a boss like Trace. I just loved the way he made sure everyone was part of a team. I really wish Donald Trump would do a rematch and have both guys do a telethon. They would have to raise the money without using their rolodex. Just normal everyday people phoning in their pledges. They could be responsible for providing the entertainment(I like Fergie, but I wouldn’t sit around waiting for her to come on TV) and try to convince the AMERICAN people to give to their cause. I think anyone that watched Celebrity Apprentice and didn’t know who Trace was, now has a new respect for country boys. Maybe he should run for President?
Tisha says:
How is it that the country music stars could not collectively stand behind Trace Adkins, who had the guts to go in front of everyone on celebrity apprentice? I saw exactly 2 country music stars, Ronnie Milsap and a member of Montgomery Gentry. The fans support country music everyday by listening to their songs and buying their CD’s. You can’t tell me that collectively, superstars like Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Kenney Chesney, George Strait, just to name a few could not have sent in a check in good faith even if they didn’t want to attend the auction. I am embarrassed as a country music fan, that his own colleagues did not support him. $67,000? Are you kidding me? I am appalled. With ticket prices the way they are for concerts, CDs, T-shirts, etc, you can’t tell me that 10 artists could not have donated 100,000 each. What a shame. Shame on you country superstars! Thank you Trace for representing “southerners” in such a wonderful way. I was a fan before, but am a much bigger fan now.
margaret says:
dear trace,
I am proud to know that you wouldn;t lose your values to get ahead like piers did. i am proud to know that you would do the right thing to win. i would of done something to piers that wouldn;t of been very lady like to him. i am a fan of yours and always will be. my family likes your music. i cannot wait to see you in concert again. someone from maine who cares. don;t forget the wheat grass juice.
Penny says:
Trace made us all so proud. I have been a fan for years and hope this opens up all kinds of new doors for him. He was sincere and humble and did it all with such class. I am still amazed that he doesn’t have a multitude of awards bestowed upon him. All the best to you and yours, Trace, you deserve it!!
Nick Panaro says:
Hey…..Trace belongs in the true country southern world.
His music is what its all about.
Nick Panaro says:
Hey…..Can anyone tell me where can I find and get a hat like the one Trace wears.?
What manufacturer make is it.????
That is one great sharp look’in cowboy hat.
Kandi from Illinois says:
I so agree with Meshell. I was totally upset that he didn’t win. So many people have a bad taste about rich people because of the attitude of money, well heck just like Piers. Piers did Knock Trace’s supporters, Piers is an a—- (sorry) Trace should have won. Trace was awesome, and I must say I will never watch another Apprentice (Celebrity was my one and only), and from my experience and hearing what I have heard lately others feel the same way, and that Celebrity was their first….IF one man can bring in such a response, then it says something about that person. he is awesome!
Kandi from Illinois says:
and I forgot, I will never buy any BSB stuff again, and what I have will be thrown out. Over indulgent “children” don’t deserve it. This was for charity and those
“men” (and I use that term loosely) didn’t see it that way..please black nail polish, and wheat grass juice…bring your own@!
Bailey says:
He is a awesome singer and song writer
Leonora says:
Trace
You are the winner, hands down. Your are a great person and entertainer. I just saw you in concert for the first time, and it was great. I will surely go to more. Nashville really let you down. If more country singers would have supported you, you would have blown Mr. Trumps mind. Just because someone has very wealthy friends, doesn’t mean they should win. Trace, you have the support and love of more people than Piers could ever imagine. My favorite part of all the shows was when your daughters surprised you. Your reaction was priceless. Everyone saw another side of you a loving and vulnerable father who would do anything for his family, and keep his integrity in tack. YOU ARE THE WINNER!!!!!!!!!!
Debbie says:
Trace, what can i say you were GREAT. You have brought so much attention to your charity and i’m proud you’re from the South, as I am. You made us all proud.
You won in all our hearts. I don’t know how you held your cool around those folks but i was glad you did, it showed you are a lst class person. You had a goal when you got there and you accomplished that plus alot more.
great job…stay the way you are..no changes needed.
love adkins says:
hi i love love you your music rocks i fall asleep at night to songs about me every night i do my dad thinks its hillbilly music
Nina says:
Trace was amazing. I really think he should have won. Great job and great person. Trace is 1st class in my book!
Jan says:
The more how I see the really rich have to do such underhanded things, I am glad that Trace didn’t win and I am a working poor stiff.
J.M.Tharpe says:
I want to thank Trace for showing that you may be from the south but we are not all poor, missing teeth, and have low IQ’s. Thank you for being a Great Souhern Man with class! My family all watched the last show and we think you should have won.
Sherry says:
Interesting that this is one of the first blogs where I don’t see one opposing viewpoint. Everyone respects Trace and his performance. I would dare to guess that the same won’t be true for Piers. As a professional I respect that earning money is one of the primary measure of success in business, however there are others, one being building a brand. Companies are more than comfortable to loose money initially to build a strong brand. Trace effectively built a brand for his charity, his industry and himself. Beyond simply increasing awareness, he achieved the highest goal of brand building - advocacy, which is when people connect emotionally with your brand - even love it. To show how successful Trace was, my 7-year-old who loves Trump and has had her favorites on his previous shows, cried when Trace didn’t win. She has never had that reaction before. She loves Trace because he touched her heart in a way that no one else on The Apprentice ever has. Don’t let the outcome fool you. In the business world, Trace would have been the winner on so many levels.
Dina says:
I just wanted to say thank you to a true man. I admire your integrity and the way you love your family. You truly touched my heart. I wish every man could be this way. In my eyes you won. You were the better man. Thank you from one of your greatest fans.
judy says:
I loved Trace on the apprentice!!!! He was REAL! Piers made for good TV as they say but Trace tugged at your heart and thats what country musicians do. He is a great father and it showed. All country singers and fathers should be proud. Trace you made America Proud!!!!!
James Anthony says:
Trace Adkins was amazing this season. Many of the winning ideas were his, he was a perfect gentleman even when he was dealing with BSB! I loved the line about having a new found respect for “Myself”, doing shows when he was hurt or didn’t feel good, going to the emergency room straight from a show to have 18 inches of his colon removed. Trace you are a class act and I’m honored when you say you grew up listening to KRMD in Shreveport!

Helen V., Dallas, TX says:
It was really disappointing that Donald Trump reneged on the original criteria he himself set forth and made the finale all about the money raised in the auction. He should have been a man of his word and said that money was the main criteria from the beginning. If that HAD been the case, then I don’t think he would have had so many outraged people now. Just speak the truth Donald. Let the world know you’re all about the money and nothing else.
Kathleen says:
Yes, I think all of us, are in agreement that Trace was the most honest and pure ,complete gentleman on any TV program/reality show of the 21st century ! I was disappointed that Mr. Trump did not choose Trace as the Celebrity Apprentice, and would have been very sad after a 2 hour program, but with the American Soldiers being there it did soften the blow , of seeing our fantastic all American good guy cowboy be the runner up,as I would think this helped Trace too, because his Arlington video is also a great credit to all his accomplishments. God bless his baby girl !,and Trace ,thanks for the awareness of such an important charity F.A.N.N.
Gayle says:
Trace you were a true gentleman and very good businessman. I would have lost my temper with Piers. The comment you made about your friends gave more with their heart than Piers people, I understood when Piers had his nose to high in the air to understand it. I only watched Celebrity
Apprentice because you were on it and was so happy and proud that you made it to the end. Great job! Also, I’ve been to 2 concerts, your great!
Vivian says:
I think Trace should have won. He really did a great job and has a lot of class. I am proud of the job you done on The Celebrity Apprentice. I love your new song.
KATHY LAMM says:
LOVE,LOVE,LOVED TRACE BEFORE THE “CELEBRITY APPRENTICE”. HE WAS THE ONLY REASON I EVEN WATCHED AND NOW FEEL LIKE I HAVE MANY MORE REASONS TO LOVE HIM. FEELS LIKE I KNOW HIM BETTER AFTER HAVING READ HIS BOOK AND SEEN THIS SERIES. HAVE SEEN HIM 5 TIMES TIMES IN CONCERT AND CANT WAIT TO SEE HIM AGAIN. LOVE YOU, BOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Angie says:
I thought he was great. He should have won. Trace is the best and I love him.
country girl says:
I’ve watched several seasons of the Apprentice but I was so excited when they announced the celebrities for this one and there was a country singer in the bunch. I was so mad when Donald chose the a****** over him I was yelling at the T.V. I have always liked Trace and I have a new respect for him. He carried himself with such dignity and I had tears in my eyes when his wife and daughters surprised him on the show. Trace, good luck with your charity and God Bless. You truly are an inspiration!!
Brenda says:
I’m not a huge country music fan, but you can’t be a good person and not admire Trace Adkins. Hats off and a big yeehaw to you, Trace! Job very well done.

c&w entertainers always have a stereotype to disprove. as an african american woman i have just “discovered” c&w music and thanks to trace adkins you have given me the most wonderful and exciting times in my life!even when he got a raw deal, he did it with grace. i watched this giant of a man reduced to tears when he looked around and saw his daughter looking up at him–powerful!

I know I was born a country music fan and always been so proud of it. I was never more proud than when Trace was spoken so highly of by others on the Apprentice. He showed such great character and love for his family and the well being of others. I lost all respect for Trump when he condoned the use of alcohol “to loosen up” the bidding. I must admit I cried when Trace didn’t win. Trace Atkins is my “Man of the Year”.
BarbBAnn says:
I’m a big fan of Celebrity Apprentice. When this season started I had no idea who Trace Adkins was. By the end of the show I knew he was a remarkable man. Class A. I have total respect for him and he is truly a wonderful man. Best wishes to you and your family. Hey, ya got me to listen to country music, a first for me.
Lindie says:
The only reason I watched Celebrity Apprentice is because Trace was on there, I felt he represented our kind well, he is truely what America stands for. God Family and Country a true family man, with the greatest voice ever. I go to his conserts. Trace you are my MAN OF THE YEAR !!!
STACI says:
I LOVE YOU TRACE ADKINS. YOU ARE ONE OF THE BEST SINGERS IN THE WORLD. WHO CARES IF YOU DIDNT WIN THE APPRENTICE YOU WILL ALWAYS BE A WINNER IN ALL YOUR FANS EYES ESPECIALLY MINE.
kellie4 says:
Trace was literally the best person on the apprentice and in my opinion he should have one. He is an amazing man and country star. Trace also outclassed everyone on the show. I LOVE YOU TRACE, good job!!!!
Linda says:
As I watched the last eight weeks of The Celebrity Apprentis, I saw what I had already know was the work of a truly great and caring man. Trace you did all your fans pround and we all know that Trump picked the wrong man to win. My thoughts and prayers go out to your daughter and all the kids who are fighting these food alergies. May they find a cure soon. With you helping them, I know they will. I hope to see you in concert soon. And again, great job on the show!
MaggieB says:
Trace conducted himself more like a true “businessman” than Piers could have ever dreamed of. Piers will be forgotten tomorrow, but Trace will prevail. I can guarantee the contributions to your charity Trace have more than doubled, and will continue to do so. Stay true, brother, and everything else will fall into place!
Nancy says:
Congratulations, in my book you are the winner!
My niece has an egg allergy. She is also 6 years old.
So thank you so much for bringing this cause out in the open to so many people. Hope something can be done. It is a problem even when you go out to a Restaurant, you have to worry that the table is completely clean.
Love your music. Hope to see you at your next concert here in NJ.
Thanks again.
julie says:
Trace did a great job.He did the best he could do in any situation. But working for a major corporation is hard.So Trace hats off to you for doing the best you could do. Julie
Dawn says:
Thank you for just being a true human being and doing all the right things on the show, you have won in many other ways then you can even imagine-Thanks for giving country a wonderful name for itself
mary says:
What a testimony! Kudos to Trace. I can’t say any more than thank you! Hey batter, batter SWING! You’re a hit
Leathergurl says:
I believe that you are the winner in a bigger way than just doing a reality show. Trace you are a great human being, and if I ever got the chance to meet you I would consider it a honor. Your family is beautiful and I wish you and your family all the best. I hope to hear alot more on your charity F.A.N.N. which I didn’t realize was such a large problem for so many. God bless you Trace, Don’t change. Hopefully I’ll get to see you in concert when you come back in Central Florida.
Glenda Roberts says:
First of all, John Rich appeared on one of the shows to help Trace AND Dean Sams of Lonestar was at the auction with Eddie Montgomery and Ronnie Milsap. I too, am disappointed more country stars did not help Trace. I could name several that should have a little pocket change around to help a good cause. However, since I do not know all the circumstances, I will not judge them.
Secondly, I was not as disappointed as I might have been since “the evil Brit” won for a great cause. For that, I am not sorry and I am sure the “most heterosexual cowboy in the country” is not too upset about that either. I think FANN will benefit over the long term though. I think the “TA” brand will remain long after Piers is remembered as the “winner.”
Last of all, I must say I have watched the finale THREE times already because Trace cracked me up. He was a hoot. From the black nail polish, to the “BSBs” comments, to his comments about having a new appreciate for “ME” was priceless!! I have been a fan since I first heard his distinctive voice on the radio, to seeing him in concert, to reading his book, to watching the Celebrity Apprentice, only because HE was on it. Trace is first class and a true Southern gentleman. I think a lot of people that might not have been fans before, have gained a new respect for TA and maybe even Country Music. My hope is that Country Music gets behind him and his cause and support FAAN. Trace you are the winner in my eyes. Money is not everything, it might make life easier but you will not stand in judgment for how much money you did or didn’t make. The world is a better place because of people like YOU.
ECBlarney says:
Just for clarity - and so people can find the web site for more information - the charity is FAAN, and the web site is http://www.foodallergy.org/.
Lots of information on their site - and a great organization (if not, would Trace Adkins be affiliated with them?).
DJViney says:
Trace, I have read your book and I loved it. Have seen you on countless tv shows. You are a wonderful husband and father and great singer of country music. I agree you were fantastic on Celebrity Apprentice. I’m so proud of you. You are the best and May Good Bless You and your family. From Wisconsin and were not all cheeseheads.
SLanzy says:
I have to add my congratulations to Trace. He WAS the winner in my book and for all the same reasons everyone else has already listed. You could see several times that he was holding himself in check and it truly does take a strong person to take the high road when the entrance to the low road is so well marked.
In response to the comments about other country stars not supporting Trace - Trace did a radio call in with our local station the morning before the final show. He told them that the charity event was being held the same day as the CMA’s in November, so the big name country stars were already booked for that evening. Trace mentioned that he had told Mr. Trump that he was killing him with the timing of the event. . . comparing it to trying to get actors to give up going to the Oscars.
Cindy in Ohio says:
From the first show in the Celebrity Apprentice series, Trace surprised other contestants with this creativity, his grasp of marketing concepts and his integrity. They thought they were working with a country rube - but what they got was a savvy businessman with guts and a code of ethics that did not fail him.
I have been a fan since the beginning, Trace. It was great to watch you bloom in that unfamiliar garden..the boardroom. I’ve been waiting until the country music awards shows gave you your due as an artist. That would still be a wonderful thing - but in doing the Apprentice, you have earned the love and respect of people everywhere….in and out of the country music world. You’ve made lots of new fans…and made the old fans very, very proud.
rutenh says:
????? Piers won! Thats all!
Daveyboy says:
Great job Trace..Godspeed!!
Jackie Jochimsen says:
I Just found out about Trace Adkins Charity & that he also has a daughter with allergies, being a huge Country Fan, I deceided to try & find out some information that Trace’s charity might just be able to help me. I don’t know if I have the right website, but if not, could someone Please e-mail me & direct me to a website that Can & Will help. I have a granddaughter, now age 4 that has severe allergies. The Doctors have told my daughter that she is especially allergic to Dairy Products including the whey, & Casein, Eggs,Peanuts, Bananas,& when she comes in contact with any of the above, her little skin looks like hamburger meat. We have also noticed a great behavior problem. The Doctors have tried many a different medications, but to no avail. My daughter or anybody that is taking care of Josie has to have a epie pen, in case she goes into a allergic reaction. My daughter is on Badger Care, through the state of Wisconsin, where we live. But as we are not finacially able to afford the necessary medications, or treatments required. One tube of the medicine Protopic that she needs is $195.00.. Josie has two other sisters, One older & one younger that don’t have allergys & can eat regular foods. My daughter gets “no” help at all with Josies food that she can have, such as soy milk at the cost of $7.00 per gallon..If anyone has suggestions as far as finacial help, emotional help, my daughter, in fact our whole family sure can use it.. I Thank You For Your Time. Sincerely, Jackie J. jackson53@tds.net
Steph in LA says:
I agree with everyone about how well Trace represented the South and Country music. I also believe he showed a WONDERFUL example for MEN, period. Humor, intelligence, integrity, fabulous wit, devoted dad protecting his family, tremendous work ethic, providing dignity for himself and all around him - and so much more. Thank you Trace!
Brenda says:
While the goal was to raise money, I question whether Mr. Morgan will ever donate to his chosen charity again. There is no doubt Trace Adkins will continue his support for his charity and continue to represent the 30,000.00 other parents who suffer and worry each day for their children. He will continue with ongoing exposure and donations. It does not matter where you are from or whether you are a country music fan or not, Trace Adkins is not only a great entertainer, but more importantly, a wonderful husband, father and human being. Thank you Trace for representing your cause with integrity, dignity and conviction. You are a common sense southern gentleman who makes all of us proud. While most agree, you should have won, the tv outcome did not matter. In our southern/country music/USA family, you are the winner.
country girl from fc iowa says:
blablablabla thats what i here when i hear music but country i love it expecialy yours you are my favorite country boy singer im doing a prodject on you for the prodject fair in school im in 6th grade forest city elementary i realy want to meet you you are great
Sue says:
TRACE = CLASS!!!! Trace was the only reason that I even tuned in to all of this season’s Celebrity Apprentice. I was totally bummed that Trace was not named the Celebrity Apprentice, but as others have commented, FAAN will definitely be beneficiaries! Trace is the winner in my book!!! The look on Trace’s face when he saw his daughters was priceless, and it brought tears to my eyes! It was so touching to see “the Big Guy” get emotional!!! We all love ya, Trace! Job well done!!! Congratulations on being a TRUE Southern Gentleman! I know, cause I am a transplanted Mississippian living in California….(I am going to the FAAN website to make my donation now. Bye…)
Joanne says:
you mentioned that that the south is proud of Traces conduct on “Celebrity”….I’m from the North (Seattle) and I believe that all of us who watched his week to week behavior are proud to be American (maybe not so easy any more) ALL of us.
Laney says:
Just became a country music fan about three years ago…(didn’t know what I was missing - born & raised in Boston). Anyway, Trace is a favorite and after his inspiring and noble efforts on Apprentice he brought awareness to both FAAN and to this terrific genre. I’ll bet more folks in the northeast are ‘Thinkin’ Things’ over and tuning into our new country radio station.
vicki says:
Trace, you were such a WINNER so proud of you and your dignity………..You also have a beautiful Wife and precious daughters loved it, In our eyes your the WINNER……..Thank You
tonie says:
I hope a lesson in humanity is learned from the Celebrity Apprentice. Even if Trace didn’t raise the most money, the money he did raise was by honest means. If anyone out there saw the final episode and if us country fans knew we could call in and drop some cash like Simon, I wonder what the outcome would have been!
Dianne says:
I did not know who Trace Adkins was nor did I listen to Country…But after seeing him once on the show I was sold. What a great man, what does Trump know.
linda says:
well my grandad always said”its not whether you win or lose but how you play the game” trace played with honor and dignity.he deserved to win, unfortunately in this day and time its all about money.i would take 1million traces over piers, anyday!
once the show was over,if i was trace,i would have hit piers so hard he wouldnt have needed a plane ticket to go back to great britian!!
Sharon Lynne says:
I was gratified to see so much support for you, Trace. I am Canadian and was VERY impressed with you and with your integrity. I was extremely disappointed with Donald Trump’s decision because CLEARLY you won in 2 of the 3 categories. But you have enriched so many lives and touched me so deeply that I know HUGE rewards and tributes will come to you as a result of your work on the show. Clearly you are the WINNER with staying power!
Jennifer says:
I was very angry when Trace lost as the Apprentice, but like others he never actually told Trace he was “fired”. I hopped on the Celebrity Apprentice website and was happy to see that even though Trace did not get the title of “Celebrity Apprentice”, his charity also received $250,00 and that the auction proceeds were split right down the middle and I think that Trace would be fine with that. I have a child who has health issues and I know what its like to see your child suffer an be so helpless about it. He was the reason I watched the show and he showed everyone that he was all CLASS. I believe if he had been given more than 24 hours that he would have raised alot more money than Piers ever would. I liked Trace before but I love him now and his emotion over his children brought tears to my eyes.
Linda says:
I have been a Trace fan since begining but I haveonly the highest regard for him as man , a father, a patriot, an artist ,an author, and actor! It seemes the list is endless. You rule Trace!I can only sy you have proven yourself to be a true souther gentelman. I was so proud to be a fan when you showed that Britt for the jerk he was.Trump may have given the game to the Britt, but America knows who the real winner was, hands down! ( and remember he was a fan of Omarosa so we know he lacks good taste to say the least) Also remember he never said Trace your fired. Please keep the CD’s, Books, & Movies coming.
P.S. I am so disappointed in the country artist that should have been there to support you & to the ones that were there for you I have a much greater respect for them!
RUTH says:
don’t know why, trump would have pick that jerk (britt)??
he knows nothing of pride, or what a gentelmen is to be!!!
your what the U S A STANDS FOR!!!!
GOD BLESS YOU & YOURS.
Joe says:
You may not swing in the same circles as that low class brit, but you have more heart and compassion in your little finger than he has in his whole family! You are and always have been one of my favorite performers. Congratulations on your cmt award, I hope you continue to have an even greater year! Hope to see you and your lovely family at the cma musicfest in june. May god continue to bless you and your family!
Glenna says:
Loved your integrity you showed on the show. How much of the show was scripted vs spontaneous? I’m big fan of your music.
Joan says:
I am not thought of as a country music fan ( I do listen to a few artists), but grew up with parents that were. I had developed a stereotype in my mind (not like what was mentioned earlier), but one that caused me to not look at country music (unless it flowed over to rock).
When I watched the Celebrity Apprentice and saw how Trace held himself through the whole season and with Pierce, I wanted to go out and buy his CD on the spot. He impressed me so much, that I feel that I have definitely did an injustice to myself all these years in not looking at country music.
Also, I have watched a lot of Apprentices and have usually stopped watching after a few episodes, because of the nasty attitudes, etc. Because of Trace and a few others, I watched this Apprentice all the way through.
It is comforting to know there are people out there like Trace. In a world of role models that we would rather forget(Paris H for one), Trace shows us what a true role model is.
Carole says:
I usually don’t watch Apprentice. When I saw that Trace was on it, I watched every one. I think Trace has enormous charisma and was easily the most interesting star on the show. He was a perfect spokesman for his charity and for Country Music. I loved his little remarks spoken in his deep voice. The looks on his face were priceless too. I couldn’t help thinking, that here Trace is, a big star in his own right, catering to the BSB and they were making his life so difficult. I was touched about his story of going on stage with a terrible stomach ache and then rushing to the hospital afterwards and having some colon removed. Trace comes across that he’d just get the job done like that.
Pierce would not have won so many challenges without Trace’s product presentation ideas and creativity. Pierce never gave him credit for those ideas, but the Trumps knew.
I will miss seeing Trace weekly too, I got to feel like he was a friend. I loved the family picnic video when Trace said grace over the meal. He is a real role model.
You did great Trace, you never cracked any heads or let your temper rip. It couldn’t have been easy. I think of Rudyard Kilpling’s “IF”.
Congrats on your number 1 hit and also on your country video award. God Bless you and keep your family safe.
Linn says:
The only reason Pierce won, is he is a lot like Trump, totally obnoxious. Trace is not only smart, but has more class then either of them could ever have. In most peoples eyes he was the real winner.
Doctormom says:
Trace - I hope you get to read your blogs, and wanted you to know that the night you lost to Piers Morgan, my 97 year old mother passed away. I came home after all the paperwork at the nursing home just so upset but unable to really grieve. I had DVR’d Apprentice and was watching it a little, but when you started singing “Your Gonna Miss This”, it gave me the impetus to cry and grieve my mother that I so dearly loved. I will always think of her when I hear that song and will always think of you kindly for that special memory. You may not have gotten the money, but you won the game by your integrity, true southern spirit and ability to always be a gentleman.
Leslieanna Wachtel says:
Trace,
My name is Leslieanna, I’m from Mountain Home, Ar. I love your music and to me I know down deep in my heart that you are a great father and a great county star. I’m a Girl Scout and I’m just finished my silver award and so I’m working on my Gold Award. I didn’t know what to do and when you are the Celebrity Appertince it came to me that for my Gold award I chose to help you out with the Food Allergy’s program. I understand how you feel because my best friend has the same problem. I love your music. Mr. Trump to me made a bad call. Good Luck! Down in my heart you are a winner no matter what happen, and you also are a gentleman. You have a enough love in your heart to not forget her and that what makes you a special gentleman.
Brenda VanGilder says:
Trace proved he was the best. I have been a country fan as the song goes when country wasn’t cool. I have been a Trace Adkins fan since the first time I heard his voice. I realize the country music awards were the same day. But you can not tell me Tim Mcgraw, Faith Hill, George Strait,
Alan, Jackson and so on could not have picked up there cell phones for 2 minutes the way simon did. I was truly disappointed in them. John Rich, Eddie Montgomery, Ronnie Milsap,Grand ole opry managed to help trace out. I agree with the person about the telethon. It should have been left up to the telivision viewers. Then piers would have been singing the blues. Trace was the only reason many people watched the celebrity apprentice. I think donald knew this. I also believe he did respect Trace. Just remember Trace Your Fans will always think of you as a WINNER. Love and God Bless Brenda
Glinda Fields says:
I am from Louisiana and was so proud that Trace Adkins was on the Celebrity Apprentice. Trace showed the world that just because you are from the south and know how to properly eat crawfish, shrimp and work on an oilrig in the Gulf of Mexico does not by any means make you stupid. I was so proud of his character and class. I truly thought he was goint to punch Pierce when he kissed Trace on the cheek. LOL. Trace thank you from all the people of Louisiana your home state and the rest of the south for making us proud of you. God Bless you and your family. Glinda
Pam Dunbar says:
I watched Celebrity Apprentice out of all the celebrity’s that was on the show Trace Adkins was the true gentleman I saw him get all chocked up when his wife and girls showed up It was about the best part of the entire show He kept his cool he handled himself so well
Just love your singing
Trace God Bless you and your adorable family
Pam
Lee says:
I watched Apprentice only after heard Trace would be on there and agree with others who say he showed himself to be a true class act through every episode. He was well spoken, had good ideas, did not need to push himself forward and evey other celebrity said thesame thing in the last show. I bet Donald Trump was surprised! And my brother just bought tickets today for pre sale for his concert in St Augustine Wahoo! I’m going to get to see him in person May 30!!
Debbi Merritt says:
I am a Trace fan club member and fan. I watched every episode of the Celebrity Apprentice.
Trace was the star of every episode! In the end Trace
had 2 of the 3 requirements to be the CELEBRITY APPRENTICE!
1. charity auction
2. ticket sales
3. performance
Trace followed the rules, Piers did not.
Donald Trump’s decison was wrong!!
Snickersmom says:
I was so impressed with Trace, his positive attitude, his humaninty, and most of all his grace and kindness. Throughout the show Trace maintained his sense of humor, his dignity, integrity, and his role as a true Southern gentleman and demonstrated to all the real man of the South. LIke so many others, I watched Celebrity Apprentice only because Trace was on the show. Trace is indeed a winner, a fine example of us Southerners, and truly a gentleman. Trace never forgot his manners, and (as he said) he would be honest and dignified throughout the process. Thank you Trace for being such a terrific gentleman and true ambassador for the Southerners. Trace was the clear winner in this contest. Sometimes the winner doesn’t take home the trophy; but wins through his own character and determination. Thank you for that, Trace.
Deborah says:
The only reason I watched Celebrity Apprentice was because of Trace. I have always been a fan of his, and that sentiment is stronger now. If you watch his videos, you realize that he would be a great comic actor. And I just want to have sex with his voice!!!
Angel says:
My husband & I did not miss one episode of the Celebrity Apprentice, and Trace did the South some good. He represented us from the South Central USA very well. He did earn the respect of the other celebs, even Gene Simmons. I kept telling my husband (he is a rock n roll fan), that those people really do not need to underestimate Trace, b/c he is a very intelligent person. Trace showed the utmost respect to those celebs who deserved, and even kept his cool with those that didn’t deserve his respect (i.e. Piers and Omarosa). I am proud to be from Arkansas and hopefully after watching Trace on the show, people definitely have a different opinion of Southerns. Just because we talk slow, my no means we are slow. Way to go Trace, You are a winner in my book. However, the part where you were talking about chihuahuas being useless, I agree even though I own one…lol.
