Around the Web: Appalling Country Lyrics

Posted: March 7th, 2008 at 4:39 pm  |  By: Link Ray

These country lyrics are so appalling that the bloggers wonder how the artists sang them without retching. Like "take your cat and leave my sweater."

A hunka hunka baby love is on the way. Elvis Presley's daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, is pregnant with her first baby with husband of two years, music producer Michael Lockwood.

Even Forbes understands the lure of the late Chris LeDoux. A recent story highlighted the hits and videos that will be included on Capitol Nashville's upcoming CD/DVD release, Classic Chris LeDoux.

March isn't always a good month for country music. Forty-five years ago this week, four members of the Grand Ole Opry died in tragic accidents.

Chace Crawford is doing a good job keeping his relationship with Carrie Underwood under the radar. She's never visited him on the set of The Gossip Girls, making her the anti-gossip girl.

I Need You and You’ll Think of Me i’ll give you, but I thought the others listed there were ok. One i’ll always take issue with is “you don’t look a day over fast cars and freedom” - what the heck’s that about?

Also, I don’t know if you knew, but Carrie has said time and again that she is NOT seeing anyone. Why is it every time she’s seen with a guy people think they’re dating each other?

It’s sad that the anniversary of the deaths of Patsy Cline, Hawkshaw Hawkins, Cowboy Copas and Jack Anglin went largely unnoticed and unmarked. Half of Country fans probably don’t know who they are and are only interested in young, “hot” singers that are out right now. People need to have more respect.

Agreed about the crappy lyrics. Tim and Faith really need to stop dueting for awhile, like the blogger said, it’s starting to really get tiring and old.

I can’t figure out if Urban is saying “cat” or “cap” in the line mentioned above, “take your cat (cap?) and leave my sweater”

Either way, its an awkward line.

Thanks for the link! Glad to see there are others who are disgusted with today’s hot new “country.” I’m sure I’ll have many of those lists to come…

I thought cmt was a family show. GONE COUNTRY proved me wrong. At least the contestants matched the show,TRASH. John Rich made a fool of himself and cmt. If I wanted to hear bleeped out language and see Bobby Brown naked I would watch Mtv. Thanks for nothing.

Since when did it become YOUR country music…???…I’ve been listening to country music for over 40 years….the drivel that’s on country radio today is NOT country music…it’s 70’s and 80’s pop…..I think I’m getting carpel tunnel finger from changing the stations so fast, so as not to listen to most of what’s on these days….lol…

listen, country music is your regular guy (or girl)music. im 16 and comin from the burbs of philly, and i love todays country music. everyones goin 2 have someone they dont like, or that one song that makes u wanna go nuts, but u kno wat? there are a hell lot of people that like those songs. the first time i heard the devil went down to georgia, i aint have a idea what was said throughtout the entire song, and i had 2 listin 2 it a lot before i understood everything that was said. but the first time i heard it, i still liked it. if u go into any genre today, its all crap, except country. what i wanna kno is how artist like toby keith, and trace adkins are 70s and 80s pop? and anyway, “pop” is short for popular. so, yea, there are a lot of singers considered pop by the actual deffiniton. and if u dont like whats bein played on the radio, go and by some cds or have your kids download some songs for you.

Good thinking Toby! You need to work on your spelling and grammar but at least your music head’s on straight! I do think this is the music for regular people, and for those who post about today’s music not being country then do what genette says and just turn the radio off!

Country music is for regular people (and some non-regulars, too), but I don’t understand what that has to do with the argument “if you don’t like whats on the radio, just turn it off.”

In my view, if we don’t like something in the world, the thing to do is not to look the other way (which is what turning off the radio is), but to try to change things, to try to make them better.

I’m not suggesting that people riot in the streets to get the kind of country music they want on the radio, I’m not suggesting that people call in the Music Director 10 times a day in protest. But I don’t think we should accept things we dislike passively.
