Gone Country: Cooking Up a MuzikMafia Showdown

I wanted to make sure everyone in the cast understood what Southern culture and hospitality are all about. Everybody that knows me knows that my Granny Rich is a pretty important person to me. She makes my stage clothes, and I go out to her house every Sunday and watch football and the whole deal, and she's also the best cook I personally know. I've grown up eating her food, so I thought it would be cool to host a dinner with the MuzikMafia with all my buddies and let the Gone Country cast kind of mingle with them, first of all, because the musical conversations that could happen would be really cool. But then I gave the cast of Gone Country my Granny Rich's recipes and sent them to the kitchen to go cook her food and then had her show up to taste test all the food and see if it was up to her standards. She had to write down all of the recipes first. She's the kind that holds out her hand and puts the salt in her hand and shakes it out. She doesn't know how much it is in anything. But I was kinda glad she wrote everything down, because someday when she's not around, maybe I'll know how to recreate those recipes.
The food the cast prepared was actually pretty good. Carnie Wilson screwed up the potatoes, but other than that. They were lumpy, first of all, and then second of all, she put garlic in them. She told us, "I make these garlic mashed potatoes," and my granny goes, "You put what in there? You don't put garlic in my mashed potatoes." That was pretty funny. But other than that, it was right on the money. Diana DeGarmo did the pecan pie, and it was frightenly good.
Later on, the cast members were challenged to perform some of their hits onstage at a local bar. Watching Dee Snider of Twisted Sister singing "We're Not Gonna Take It" -- and the whole bar in Nashville just screaming it at the top of their lungs -- it makes you understand the close connection between classic rock and country music. Bobby Brown and Sisqo, you know, doing "My Prerogative" and "The Thong Song" ... incredible. Those guys are just straight up pros. I mean, it would be like taking me and throwing me into an urban scene somewhere in Atlanta or L.A. and me getting up and doing "Save A Horse (Ride a Cowboy)" and they actually all pumped their fist to it. It was kinda like that, watching it all go down.

nashville rocks says:
haha, Diana can sing and cook. now i want her even more!
i wonder what she sang in the bar.
John, I’m excited to see Granny on the show! :)
Tonya says:
I just wanted to add that when John got out of that helicopter, oh my God! That is one fine fine fine fine man and being a country boy made it even better.
CowgirlXena says:
lol, that made me laugh, haha. I really like this show and can’t wait for the next episode.
cindy says:
I really enjoyed the show. I am anxious to see what happens next. I hope they continue to do shows like this
banginmydrum says:
Wow, I cant wait to see this next episode. Im a musician myself so I cant wait to see these guys on stage at a club i nashville. Carnie was right when she said country fans are hard to win over, but when we love ya you’re in for life. I think kid rock is a good example. It took awhile for hard core country fans to come around to him but I think since rockin with Hank he’s in.
Phyllis says:
This next episode should be great! I’m a little worried about Dee, but that’s the way it goes. Just so Carnie doesn’t feel too bad, I like garlic mashed potatoes with certain foods.
louise43 says:
i just want to say that this show is great. i love john rich, and about the one comment is he married i don’t think so , he’s to much of a playboy. and i would like to say that that house is out of this world
Michelle Freden says:
Mr. John Rich! May I have your attention!! The creative talent you have from your head to your finger-tips is to say the least PLATINUM! Country is not just exclusive to “Members Only” You have opened up country culture for people that were dying for country to be “The Talk of the Town”
Celebrating Country Music is a GIFT and I feel that I am sharing your TREASURES with you Mr. Rich. Thank you for changing Country Music along with Big Kenny! You have opened a season of dreams for the casts and others out there that have dared to dream of being a country talent.
John, to me you are the Keeper of Tradition that makes an Emotional Connection to many hearts (Especially Mine) I hope you continue to pass down your own tradition of Music to the next generation.
Many future preformers will be indebted to you for giving NEW LIFE to Country Music and LOVE!
May God keep blessing you and your Family!
CarlisleCountry says:
It’s obvious why all of these stars want to try Country music… People who listen to country actually pay for the music (downloading is after stealing, and stealing is wrong for good people). I think this could be groundbreaking for some of these stars, but especially for music in general… It will make a larger audience realize that you can make good music with legible vocals that have meaning, and still be cool!
Thanks to CMT,
Thanks to B&R,
Thanks to Nashville,
Thanks,
Russ
Zeke says:
Great premise. Good luck with this.
Go Diana Degarmo!!!! says:
Looking forward to the second episode on Friday night. Great to hear that Diana Degarmo also cooks. Broadway, American Idol and now cooking is also part of her talents. Can’t wait to see what she sings at the challenge.
It sure sounds like a great second show with such a talented cast.
Andy Smith Band says:
Loved the show. I can’t believe how compassionate John was considering he was such a jerk to me and my band when we were playing at LIVE BAIT IN ORANGE BEACH ALABAMA late last year. I wish I could have blamed it on alcohol but he wasn’t that drunk.
I’ve been playing live music for 30 years and sang live with, to mention a few, BOB WIER (Grateful Dead), Ian Evans (Skynyrd), Joe Cocker, Starship, and Lonnie Mack.
Although I’m not a BIG STAR like him, my band and I did not deserve to be treated with disrespect.
I wish the best for John who has climbed the rung I’ve always reached for and missed for one reason or another. I just hope the guy I saw on TV for the show was the “real” guy, because if it isn’t “HE” should start working on himself and not them.
Sincerely,
Andy Smith New Iberia LA
WENDERS says:
Let me just say, that we cannot all be good all the time. Sometimes there unknown factors that don’t have to be made public. Forgive and forget—on to the show.
It is awesome, I wish you John, all the prosperity in the world-and hope that Big Kenny comes out of everything he is going through with roses and stars!
la_la4rich says:
DUDE, i love this show.
N i loved with John rich was looking at Diana Degarmo boobies..HE HE
texasrose says:
I really think that if these guys are truely sincere about this endeavor, they will succeed and will produce great things. I am looking forward to watching them all succeed. I guess I am just a optimistic person who believes in people who work hard to prove themselves.
Suzanne from Nashville says:
I visit the honkytonks at least once a month in downtown Nashville and have been known to raise a little hell. I think it’s awesome that these musicians have been given the chance to work w/ JR. I hope that I get the opportunity to see them perform and that they all leave with a sense of what Nashville is about….hardworking, hell-raising, kind-hearted people.
Lily says:
Love the show. It would be nice to see more diversity in country music.
LJ says:
GREAT SHOW !!!!!!!!
I am not a country music fan, except for Conway Twitty and Charlie Rich.
But your show and the great things, that you are doing for these entertainers; you get an A+ and get to go to the head of the class !!!!!!!!!!
Can’t wait for the next espisode.
LizM says:
John you have come a long way’s since your Opryland days and your Lonestar day’s..Im glad to see where you landed !
Ya should have made Mo make you some of her homemade veggie soup !
kat says:
I would like to see Granny Rich’s recipes posted for all the fans to try!! PLease
MJK-Michigan says:
I love the show!!! I am getting very excited for the next one. I think that everyone that got up and showed their talent (even though nervous) was WONDERFUL!! Mr. Rich is one heck of a FINE looking man, mmmmm…HOT!!! Anyways I love the show and I’ll continue to watch. Good luck everyone!
Susie says:
Just saw the second show and loved it. Can’t wait until next week. I agree with the comment about John checking out Diana Degarmo’s boobs in the first show, I think he liked what he saw. Lucky girl!! I thought Dee and Bobby were hilarious and makes for good reality TV. Maureen needs to step it up but, she really isn’t know as a singer like everyone else. Diana was the best and am hoping she wins. Granny, well she is adorable and understand why everyone loves her and would love to try her recipes for my family and friends. I know John is blogging and hope he gets the chance to read this.
Love ya JOHN!!
Glenda Starn says:
I can’t tell you how much I enjoy this. Flipping channels, I was lucky enough to see the premier last weekend, 1/25/08, and I watched it 3 additional times during the weekend. I told everybody about it at work on Monday and couldn’t wait to see it on Friday 2/1/08. The half hour show on 2/1/08 was just not enough and I can’t help but wonder why it’s not on each night instead of American Idol, which I like but I’m not crazy about. Why isn’t this on instead of American Idol?! My only two negatives is that one half hour program is not enough and I hope the fur coat JR wears is not real fur. If it is, SHAME!JR, you’ve made a real hit and you don’t need animal fur to promote it or yourself. I’ve only seen this and that of most of the artists, but after only a few hours of seeing them, WOW! Congratulations on a beautiful show! I’m rooting for all of them, they are all stars and so special. Did you do a wonderful job of picking out who you would sponsor or what?!Glenda Starn from Polk City, FL
Kris says:
I can not believe that I can hardly wait for the next episode. This is so great. I am afaid Bobby Brown is gonna blow it one more time. I think John Rich is so cool and I am learning so much more about him. I have never seen the real caring side of him.It is so cool. Thanks for the show.
JAG says:
First of all, I would like to say CONGRATS on the show. I absolutely LOVE it! My hat is off to you taking on this type of reality show. I know from personal experiences about all the trials and tribulations; not to mention WORK that is involved on set and behind the screen. :-) I see you are going to make them get their hands dirty in the up coming show. I thoroughly enjoyed watching them prepare the Southern meal and get the approval of your grandmother. If you ever want to let them HUNT for the MEAL that they are going to PREPARE, let me know. Take care. Good Luck with your future endeavors. ;)
Karey says:
Ok what totally stinks is that I don’t have cable TV. yeah yeah I’m from the back woods (kinda) of Georgia. Anyhow… my only updates on Diana are here on the web page. Thank God for the internet!! Diana, I’m so proud of you if you so happen to read this. You’ve grown up so much since I first met you singing at Cowboys. And Mr. Rich thanks for giving her the oportunity to shine… I’ve always known Diana would be a great country singer… since age 11!! Miss her hugs, smile, and personality so send her home in one piece please!!!
A SUTHERN LADY says:

Karvis says:
Love the show but Dee Snyder has got to go. He is a real A-H- !!!!!! He is rude beyond discription. Everyone else is wonderful.
joe says:
i love that log cabin. that is a great place for your show. Is that barbra m. house. love the show. you were good with lone star, but you are great with kenny. I am a big country music fan. i love the song save a horse. i am a good old farm boy. keep it up.
DeepRiverMomma says:
I agree with Karvis…Dee Snyder needs to go. Mo should have been asked to sing and then made to go up…it’s a singing contest. My gosh. She’s an actor. Get up and sing or leave. Why is she there if she doesn’t want to sing. I agree, Diana nailed it. Can’t wait until next week to see what else John has planned.
Tammy Armstrong says:
I love “Gone Country”!!! It’s so hard to have to wait a whole week between episodes. John, you are exceptionally talented. It’s nice to see the other side of John Rich, to see you just be a person, a very talented person at that! I have seen you and Big Kenny perform 2x @ Country Fever in Pryor Oklahoma, and hope to see you again real soon! I am patiently anticipating the rest of this seasons “Gone Country”, and can only hope for another season!!!
Best Wishes!!!
You #1 Fan
Tammy
Sandra Villegas says:
Real enjoying gone country. I agree with everyone about Dee Snyder coming off as an a** but he’s also whats making the show exciting. I think he has a lot of talent and experience to pull it off though, the whole group are amazing and anyone that can do what there doing and having the world watch are already winners in my eyes.
BC MARSHALL says:
I would like to put it on record that the idea behind the show is awesome. I think Country music needs a new Mega-hero (besides Garth), so JR seems to be it. But i will say this: This show already is SO lopsided it’s laughable. I am a musician, a songwriter, and i have lived in Nashville. I know how the machine works, and after watching the first episode and seeing the 7 people and their songwriting”Partners” i had to laugh. Let me make a prediction and a suggestion in one fell swoop. Diana DeGarmo will win this event because A) she is 20 years old and super georgeous and talented(Ie she WILL make money for the record companies) and also B) her songwriting partner(Keith Stegall) has more #1’s and HUGE chart hits than all the other songwriters on the show COMBINED, so it’s obvious she will win…..so, next time JR/CMT, pick 7 contestants with an EQUAL chance of winning, not 1 super hot/talented shoe in to win and 6 people that are only there to add DRAMA(Dee)CULTURE(Julio)EXITEMENT(Sisquo)LAUGHS(Maureen)and FREAK FACTOR(Bobby) which does make for GREAT reality TV, but not a great competition…..BC
*~ Lora ~* says:
Wow John! I’m lovin’ your new show “Gone Country”. Putting all genres of music together, and giving them the chance to prove to themselves that they can make a country hit is pure entertainment! I can’t wait to see what what everyone comes up with on bringing their country tune to life. It’s funny to see the drama, and see another side to their lives.
David says:
Somebody needs to take the crack away from the executives at CMT. Gone Country is like a hillbilly Alice in Wonderland gone way wrong. Where can this go guys? Who is actually going to buy a country CD from any of these people, I don’t know anybody that would. If my music career had been reduced to an offer like Gone Country I think I would just go get a job at Wal-Mart instead. LOL
Connie says:
Love the show but it’s not on long enough. My big liking for J.R. is the respect he has for his Granny. Besides his talent , of course. From another Granny.
OHIOGREG says:
I think that this show is exactly what country music needs. To take alot of talent from all different aspects of music, mix them together in “The great American melting pot” let each member bring their own personal attributes to the studio and lets see what we get. I am a musician myself as well and I try not to limit my preferences to any ONE style of music. I like GOOD music. It doesnt matter if it is pop, country, rock, or rap. If it is GOOD and truly sincere, then I think people will like it and buy their cd….This music that is being generated here in this show is OUR country music. I hope that we can grow as American listeners and try to appreciate what each genre gives to this venture.OHIOGREG

WERE STILL CRAZY BOUT YOU AND WERE BEHIND YOU ALL THE WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!ROLL TIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Melissa says:
Love the show, I agree it is not long enough. LOVE John Rich!!! Hope to see you in June (CMA Music Festival) LOL from Tampa Fl
lori says:
Great concept. Am amazed by John’s personna, what a beautiful and perceptive individual. I feel like Granny Rich is part of my family as well. Granny, if you left me that recipe, I would not DARE to put garlic in it!However, if you added “play with it awhile and give it your own personal touch…”It still would have been something like chopped peppers or greens…You raised ‘em up good! Best wishes with the new lot! You have you hands full….but I can tell your heart is full also…Godspeed.
mrsflash49 says:
I couldn’t wait to watch this show after seeing the first preview ad..What a GREAT concept!!! I don’t like reality shows in general, but this peaked my interests as something
I would enjoy..I really enjoyed watching the first two shows and can’t wait to see the remainder..I hope that this won’t be the only season of it..
Having such a diverse group of people competing to do something to broaden country music is amazing and makes for a great night of tv entertainment..I was brought up on country music, although I like other genres; in recent years I have gone more back to my country roots…Ya, I’m a country gal…
I thought last night’s show was not long enough as some stated above…It was great to see Granny Rich on the show
and the stars cooking from her recipes..I don’t like garlic
in my smashed potatos either..but I think we have to give Carnie credit for taking the lead to prepare this meal and except for the garlic, everything seemed to come out perfect..and even though she was fussing about being behind in getting it on the table in time, she did it!!!
I think Bobby Brown should stick to the agenda of the program and party when he’s not competing on this show, but I give him a lot of credit for genuinely apologizing to everyone else..
Millions of us older woman like Mo have a lot of life natural occurances happening, tend to be sensitive and kind of weepy at times..so give Mo a little break..But on
the other side, when they went to perform in front of the Nashville crowd, as scared as she was, she should have at least tried…She also was kind enough to help Julio set the table after he was sentenced to that duty for taking a nap…
Dee acts like a jerk, shouldn’t say what he did the first show at another man’s table for dinner; but doesn’t having him on the show spicen it up just a bit..but I think he could tone it down a bit too..
What is any genre of music if it does not have room to grow?? Any one of these people could bring it home..
To the person above, again the house was Barbara Mandrell’s
previous home which was auctioned off a few years ago and just recently in the news that the new owners have combined with investors to make a subdivision out of the
property. The home would be sold off separately…
To John Rich..you have such great talent as an artist in so many ways..I admire you for taking on this show as it’s host and doing a bang up job at it..I think you are spot on
in your agenda for this program and showing this group what
country music and country life is all about..I wish you well in all of your endeavors…and even though your my oldest daughter’s age, you’re a real HOTTT looking cowboy..
and when you and Big Kenny plan your tour for 2009, I hope
you consider putting in a show for what we like to call God’s country..Maine..There are a lot of country music fans here and we don’t get enough country artist coming this far North!!!
GOOD LUCK TO ALL..
GONE COUNTRY EVERYONE
diane says:
Diana is incredible..polite….laid back..a true southern charm…And OMG can she sing..did you see Carnies mouth drop when Diana opened her mouth?? She is the quiet one..not obnoxious..and not whiney like Maureen..I think she is going to quietly run away with this contest…I bought her first album and I look forward to her second..you go girl!!
Susan says:
I think that Bobby or Diana have the most talent on this show. If Bobby can get his drinking under control he will be a huge country star! I love this show and I can’t wait to see Dee Snyder go. Also, I agree that as much as I like her if Maureen is too scared to perform then she needs to go.
Marilyn says:
I love this show, John is very cool, what a cast ( good job choosing them) Good luck ! I hope to see Big and Rich live near the Bay Area soon
Grannie Gernie says:
I have to say this is one fun show to watch except for the mouths on those two boys Dee and Bobby, I guess it’s all for entertainment. I hope they had some respect when your Grannie was at the table. I’m really looking forward to seeing how this group handles a real country workout on Gretchen’s ranch. John as a Preachers son you know better than to pay any mind to those voices who try to bring you down. Just look to Ephesians 6:10-18 and know where you stand. God Bless and keep on doing what you do.
cheri54 says:
I do like Big & Rich but this show stooped a little low starting with Bobby Brown. BOBBY BROWN???? Give me a break!! He apologized for sleeping while the others shopped for dinner. I wonder how many times he apologized to Whitney for abusing her. ANYBODY but a loser like Bobby Brown! Bobby needs to worry more about just getting his drinking under control!! I LOVE country music and they could have chosen better from other genres.
Suzie says:
Maureen is such a baby. I wonder if that’s how she behaved on the set of The Brady Bunch. She is nerver-wracking. Diana is more mature than she is. I say Maureen needs to step up to the plate and be an adult.
The rest of the cast is just what you expected them to be. I guess that’s why I’m surprised by the way Maureen is acting???
The show is good. It makes you realize that just because you can sing one song pretty good, doesn’t really make you a singer.
Can’t wait for the next one.
sweetcarolinagirl says:
i really enjoy the show..dee is scary…julio ia a doll and diana is an angel…cant wait to see what happens…go john…i need ur granny’s pecan pie recipe…
Tennmann says:
Seems to a great show John! I know that this was filmed earlier but I would like to tell all of them “Welcome to Tennessee!!!!!!!”
sexynanna says:
The show was great! Carni, and the girls looked terrific. I think that Dee and Bobbi’s competivness, will help make it an awsome show. I’m a twisted sister fan from the class of 82. The women are gonna have to step there game up. Just make sure Bobbi stays off the alcohol.
johnrichlover says:
Wow! John looks better on every show! I cant waite till the next show. To me it seems Dee is always runnin his mouth. Love you John and i’ll be wating for the next episode.
Tanya says:
After watching this episode, I am sticking my neck out there and predicting the winner will be Diana. I love Carnie and I was sorry to see her doubting herself so much. But I just think Diana has the whole country package already. And I think she wants it the most too. After finding out that she used to sing country, and thinking about what might have happened had she taken that route via the whole American Idol thing, I wonder if she was kicking herself after seeing Carrie Underwood’s success. I sure thought Diana was the winner the year she was on, even if she wasn’t coming out as a country singer the way Carrie was.
John, you are right that your Granny’s recipes are treasures. I’m glad you have them.
LC says:
John…Love the show!!! Who are you supporting now that Fred’s out of the race?
A Southern Lady says:
YEW IS SOOOOOOOOOOOO CUTE! I AM GLAD YER GRANNY MAKES YER CLOTHES. THAT’S NICE.
DonziDoll says:
We are lovin’ Gone Country here in Madison AL! Somebody puh-leeeze give pottymouth Dee Snider some Ivory Soap to suck, ‘kay?
And where can we find Julio Iglesias Jr’s messageboard here on CMT.com? Where can we buy his CDs?
CMT has messageboards for all the Gone Country cast except Julio Jr. Link is broken or something. Can this be fixed FAST?
CMT is showing links to buy cast members CDs but not JJs. Can this be fixed, too?
War Eagle Auburn Tigers!
Country Fan says:
A very interesting show, that looks to be heating up with the drama. We want to see more of JR singing!!
JR, what is with you always having a drink in your hand? Not a great message you are sending, but I know you don’t care about the messages sent.
Keep on rocking and pickin’!
Diane says:
I was very dissapointed that Maureen did`nt even try to sing. Carnie was very nervous but she got up on stage. I`d like to see Carnie get over here jitter`s & belt something out. I grew up listening to the Beach Boys, and The Mama`a & The Papa`s. Dig deep girl! Another great episode. I`d love to have Granny`s recipes too. If Granny would make a little recipe book, she`d be able to sell it. I`d buy it! Can`t wait for the next episode! I hope we see alot more in the future.
tina says:
What a great show . John you are HOT !!! Quite a cast of colorful characters . Sorry that Maureen didn’t sing .I’m still pulling for her , though .Will Granny ever do a cookbook ? Love to see that .
Love ya all !
diane says:
Diana is showing maturity beyond her years…Bobby Brown is bad for country..so is Dee…Maureen is playing on her whining like a country song…Carnie is just past her time..Diana is the winner hands down..Anytime she opens her mouth to sing…it is incredible..and she is the most professional and polite one of the group..Go Girl..tell the rest to “GO On and Cry”..LOL
Tess says:
This show is so amazing. I love the whole concept, and wow what a house. After the writers strike and all the garbage that is on networks right now it is great to see something entertaining. Maureen, seriously calm down though. You are making us menopausal women look nuts. Carnie you are an amazing woman. Diana, great talent and bright future. Cisco and Julio good for you for trying something new. Bobby and Dee, seriously enough ego…. Keep up the good work John Rich, you are doing one fine job. And I love Granny Rich, all my Grannies including my mom are gone. It is up to me to be the Granny now.
Tom & Lee Ann says:
John,
We were at the season finale at the Wild Horse. We had seen Dee Snyder being interviewed by the media out back of the Wild Horse by the waterfront the morning of the finale. We stopped to talk to him & to take pictures with him & he told us about the show. We were down there vacationing from New York with friends & that was our best time we had while we were there. Great to see all the celebrities including Randy Owen.
What you might not know about is that I personally stopped what could have been a very bad & dangerous situation for the show that night. All I will say is the police were involved. If you want to know more, let me know. I didn’t want to list details on your blog. Can’t wait to see the rest of the shows. Again, thanks for the best vavation ever!
Tom & Lee Ann says:
OOPS! vacation
Jamie - MN says:
WOW!! When I heard about this show I wasn’t sure what to think but I absolutley LOVE IT!!! Every time I see John he takes my breath away. I’ve been lucky enough to see him in concert a few times and even front row at this last years “Macy’s Glamorama” in Minnesota. After the show was done he shook my hand and I think I melted!
If I ever had the chance to talk with John I would be the happiest woman in the whole world.
I don’t think I’ve had a crush like this since high school. Anyways…I cant wait for the upcoming episodes!!!
Patty-WI says:
Wow its a great show, and would like to be in the presence of great people like that….the talent, the differences, that is American…bringing all the differences together to make some music…I salute you.
Robin says:
I loved the second episode as much as the first, except it wasn’t long enough, hehe. I would bet my first born that John Rich already has his Granny Rich’s recipes in the works to be published. He would be crazy not to! I grew up in the south eating my mother’s and grandmother’s wonderful southern cooking and would love to see a recipe book soon.
For the contestants on the show…..my vote is for Diana. She has an amazing voice and has the personality to take her far in country music. I love Bobby Brown too, he bares his soul on national TV. I would not think think Dee will go too far. And I think Carnie keeps them all grounded, its the mommy in her. :)
Love the show! Keep them coming! Love John Rich too! Come to Jacksonville, Fl! Much love.
dawn says:
what is the song playing when john is getting out of the helicopter.. loved it
ColoradoGirl says:
Saw both episodes. This show is great and everyone is correct, John Rich is such a hunk and does seem to be a great guy.
I am voting for Diana to win, but I do want to see Maureen come out of her shell and do well. I think she has heard the Marsha phrase so much it has taken her self esteem away. I’m here to tell you forget Marsha and become Maureen.
Amy in Idaho says:
John is just so YUMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

John, being a genealogist and working in out of the state of TN has always been grand. County is County. That simply. I admire you because you hold your grannie so dear to your heart. I lost my many years ago and Sunday was always dinner at her home even though it wasn’t much she is what made it a castle. John get your grannie’s recipes and put them into some type of book. Once, she is gone no one will be able to copy grannies dishes. After
all 99.9 % of it is the love she puts into it for her babyJR. I really enjoy your show. Best of luck to them all and remember you are in our prayers always. Come to Arkansas when you can. We miss you! My eight year old thinks your grand. Thanks, for being such a grand role model and showing the younger generation what county is all about.
Lisa says:
I absolutely love this show. I love the variety of singers that were chosen. I wish I could have seen you when you came to Connecticut. My sister went and said you were fantastic! I hope I can catch you next time around.
love ya and good luck with the cast!!!
Diana Degarmo was great!! says:
Loved the second episode it was great. I agree with everyone if Granny put a cookbook out it would do great. Everyone wants those recipes. All of the food looked delicious.
I wished the show could have been an hour to see everyone’s full performances of their song’s at the nightclub “Fuel”. Diana Degarmo’s performance of her #1 single “Dreams” was my favorite.
I can’t wait to see the third episode of the show next week.
Rae says:
I am from Dee Snider’s home town on Long Island and I want to apologize for his filthy mouth. He must have gotten that from rock music, not from here. Love the show and just wanted to let country fans know that everyone in New York is not crude and rude. Diana is amazingly talented and Maureen and Carnie just need a dose of self-confidence. Again–apologies from New York
DonziDoll says:
Hey, y’all! Here’s a tipped cowgirl hat to Maureen for kindly helping Julio set the dinner table! Likely Julio took a nap during the meal-prep-time because he was having JETLAG! Flying across several time zones all the way from Spain to land in Nashville would exhaust anybody & the rest of the cast didn’t have to travel as far as Julio did…
Pat Moore says:
This is not about the Cooking Show, but it does concern
BIG & Rich. I just finished their Book and it is one of Best Books I have read in along time. I encourage everyone who has not read it to read it.
This is a Best seller.
These guys are awesome people and Entertainers.
Keep up the work guys.
Sheila says:
I was disappointed when watching Gone Country, every male at the table ate dinner with his hat on, where I grew up (Detroit) that is just rude, I may be old school, but are the times changing where it is tolerated? you speak of the southern hospitability and culture, I’m sure in Granny Rich’s day the gentlemen removed their hats when entering a home, and surely not wear it at the dinner table.
Other then that, so far I think it’s a good show and will continue to watch.
WEBEFUN says:
Mr. Rich, you are an exceptional producer and your finger is on the pulse of all of “whass happenin’ now” Glad your every wish is coming true.Although I would like to see you colaborate with Jimmy Buffett that would be an interesting event, sane or insane!
Thanks for being.
BrianLee says:
John,
Great idea for a reality show, though I’m not sure I understand the rules. Is there going to be a vote or elimination?
Just a thought; If you are seeking an artist to send to the top, Please get in touch with Shelby Lynne, her latest album shows that great voice needs almost no instrumentation. Her originals have never been treated(produced) the way they deserve. I know YOU ARE THE MAN to do this!!!!!! It would be another step in proving you are not a bigoted person, but can see, in your minds eye, the innate talent and love flowing from an artist. All of the talk about the material world is just that, talk, and immaterial to life’s purpose.
Keep keeping it REAL,
Brianlee
mrsflash49 says:
To Dawn above, I believe the song that is being played when John makes his entrance by heli is called “Loud”..It is from Big & Rich’s most recent CD “Between Raising Hell and Amazing Grace”..That is the same one that plays when the show starts…
I was brought up believing it was proper etiquette for a man to remove his hat at the dinner table and entering places..That’s just not a Southern thing..I live way up NORTH!!!
It doesn’t matter where you come from, there are people with vulgar months in every corner of the world..have two
brothers-in-law from NY and they are GREAT..so no apologies
necessary from the person above.. SOMEONE PLEASE DUC TAPE
DEE’S MOUTH!!!! No call for it on this show or anywhere..
I agree with the person above that suggested Julio was probably having JETLAG..you’re right he did come from afar
and needed the nap..
I disagree that Mo (Maureen)is not acting adult.I think her problem is more hormone whackout than anything.. she needs to calm down and get some confidence…my concern for her is after watching her as growing up as the clean cut person in The Brady Bunch to see her smoking..
Can’t wait for this week’s show!!!
GOOD LUCK ALL!!! SEND DEE PACKING…
JOHN, KEEP UP THE GREAT JOB!!!
GONE COUNTRY EVERYONE

Just had to tell you, I am not one who usually watches reality type TV shows, but you have me hooked! I love this concept and I am a true Southern California Country fan! I can hardly wait for this Friday to see what happens next! Great idea John, love it! Take care!

John i love the show very much. I think you are one of the most good looking man alive! I, would like to know? If you are selling shirts with you and crew of gone country on it and if so where could we buy them. Hi Granny Rich.
JHC says:
I loved the first two episodes. Love the concept. I feel for the cast! I felt really bad for Maureen but this is a singing contest–why is she there if she’s afraid to perform. It’s a shame that Dee is so insecure that he has to make up this BA persona to hide it. I wouldn’t be upset to see him go and it’s a shame that he has to be so nasty because he really could make it.
Shirley B says:
I watched your show today and John you are one class act. Those on the show are lucky to have you behind them as are others before them. Good Luck. I will be watching. Country girl from Ioway.
luci says:
John love the show. Love to see you.
Ingrid says:
John i am your number one fan. Me and my friend Rachel love you. We listen to your music all the time.
alex massey says:
man i guess i’m the only sisqo fan lol well go dragon. the dragon has gone country!!!!
klueluz says:
Love the show. And everyone on it.What a brilliant concept.I have to agree with mrsflash49. Dee needs to go.Or get over himself.I dont think he relizes his 15 minutes of fame is over.
I have one question. Is that Barbara Mandrel house?
Keep up the good work.
James says:
Love the show. What a concept! As a uk boy that went country a long time ago I no it’s a tough world to be accepted in if you don’t go 100% genuine and honest. Lot of respect to those who can do it, but Dee, do it for real. What was said at Johns table was seriously out of order. It’s not about scoring points it’s about living the life. Tell you what john casts a long shadow for the cast to ezcape! Bobby and Mo what a couple!! Live it love it always!
jody says:
great show john, it lets the stars show their real life side. it look like they had a ball riding the 4-wheelers up to the house. i love the song “loud”, i like pull up beside some young kids playing the bass cd, and taking my 1300 watt of power, and showing them that country can hit too.i only caught the one show, but looking to catch the rest.
west coast country fan says:
I don’t know JR personally though I think these days everything he touches turns PLATNIUM! I love this show! I watched the first episode and just told my daughter about it. She grew up in my house with primarily country music but my tastes are so eclectic that she was allowed to listen to pretty much what ever she wanted. I never let her ‘idolize’ the performers but she had her fav’s. When I told her about the show she wanted to see it for herself thank goodness CMT replayed that first show again and she loves it too! We watched the second episode together. I must say that I am disappointed that Bobby started out overindulging in alcohol! I know Maureen has had her own issues with it as well. I am glad to see that most the players are really trying and putting everything into each challenge. John has good instincts and I think most of these folks knew that so they trust him and his advise. I can’t wait to see these city folk cleanin’ stalls and workin’ hard earnin’ their dollar. I should be fun and Gretchen should be a blast.
west coast country fan says:
Yes that was Barbara Mandrel’s place when she got into that terrible accident! It is going to be the center piece of the upper class developement that John and his partners got approvals for.
Michael says:
What is wrong with Marcia Brady she acts like a little girl…I am wondering if she is on something…
Larry McGinty says:
I am tired of the re-runs of previous shows!!!! Make it real and don’t mess up a good thing, get rid of the re-runs!!
Marcia says:
John,
The show is great! I have to agree with Larry, get rid of the repeat shows.
And I am a granny in Texas who will cook and sew for you anytime your Granny is busy!
I hope all of you had a great time with the production of Gone Country!
rere says:
john, i’m a african american woman. who watches alot of BET (black entertainment television) and since this GONE COUNTRY on cmt. i watch alot of cmt. i love this show. i got my mom,my sisters, my husband, and anyone i can tell! lol!! i heard about the show when bobby brown came on one of bet top shows 106 and park. i probably would have never knew about it if bobby never made that appearance on BET. i’m a cmt fan now. i watched alot of cmt programs and videos. i cant wait for the next episode!!-rere -i’m a country fan now!!

If all you hick chicks think John Rich is the sexiest cowboy, go on over to countryweekly.com and cast your vote!! If you want more John Rich and Big Kenny go to bigandrich.com and for some great videos of John and Big and Rich go to You Tube. Just sharing the love!
kearls says:
love watchin the show and think it takes alot of guts and flexibility for these artists to try something this new. wish them all the best as i have loved the music of dee snider, bobby brown, and carnie wilson for years.
terry caulder says:
show was great, loved granny rich but you need to get rid of marcia brady shes to much of a crybaby. down here in north carolina we love yalls singing [big and rich,] yall are the bomb. great work.
Julie says:
Well, as far as Bobby Brown goes, whatever he’s done in his past personal life is his business…and I think he’s gonna give somebody a run for their money. Diana is kicking some major mature anus, Dee Snyder is a fricking Yankee, and John Rich can have some of my homemade shakey pudding anytime he comes to Virginia Beach.
tz1honey says:
I love the show. And the idea that your Grandma would write down her recipes is awesome. I lost my grandma and wish that I would have had the foresight to have her write them down, she did all her measurements by sight and by hand. I can’t wait to see each new show. I have my other medics watching the show too. Keep up the Great Show.
April Blimka says:
I have to say first of all that i’m not that huge of a fan of country music, but I must say that I really love this show! I look forward to watching the group progress in their singing and cant wait to see who actually walks away with the prize. Thank you so much for putting this show on the air.
Shirley Shepherd says:
Hey, is this a new “entertaining/enjoyable” show or what ?? LOVE IT !!
Besides the obvious fun-factor, the editing is fantastic !!
Good job. Please pass on my comments to the edit-ers.
Thanks.
Twin One Two says:
I’ve enjoyed all the comments on the show. Each star has just the unique personality to make the show a winner. Good business strategy for several showings a week for maximum exposure. Thanks!
BrianLee says:
Anyone who thinks this man is not the real deal, please check out the song
“Never mind Me” on “Comin’ to your City”. The sweet country soul is irresistable
very reminiscent of a John Oates composition, a peek inside the vision/life of a true artist.
Love that everyone!!!!!!!!!!
Lucky Cowboy says:
John Rich has a hit! I love the show and where it is headed. I think it’s one of the better shoes on TV. Leave it to John to make waves in Country Music Nashville. I can hardly wait for the next show. YEE HAW JOHN!
DHEATON says:
Okay, I don’t like “Save A Horse, Ride A Cowboy” but I do like some of B&R music and if JR is as nice in person as he was on this show that is pretty cool. Having Granny Rich on the show-A BIG PLUS. Being a child from the ’80s and one who likes all kinds of music I recognized most of the stars right away but Dee in country-FORGET IT! Oh, and sorry Granny Rich but I like garlic in mashed potatoes sometimes but I will admit creamy loaded with butter-AWESOME!
Tracey says:
I think the show is entertaining and enjoyable. I love watching JR and what he expects the others to do. Its intresting on who has been picked for the show. I enjoyed watching them having to cook. If you ever need southern cooking done JR that is my specialty! I can cook for any number of guest. I would love for you to come to my home for some good cooking and bring Granny Rich as well! Keep up the great work! Thanks
CG says:
>>>She told us, “I make these garlic mashed potatoes,” and my granny goes, “You put what in there? You don’t put garlic in my mashed potatoes.”
CG says:
oops. Dunno how that cut me off. Anyway, my 88-year-old Grandma says the same thing.
SC_Cowgirl says:
I love the show! My TiVo is set to automatically record every new episode so I am sure not to miss a second! I wasn’t too sure at first how the show was going to be, but it after all John is on the show! ;)
Tim says:
Great show! Entertaining show!
This show is a godsend for all the hardcore B@R fans.
Brillinat casting. One question. Is mentioning Big Kenny
and/or ignoring his existence( like calling B&R’ band “my
band” like John did on the show ) part of the John Rich
solo career campaign? Other than that, thanks John for keeping the B&R flame alive.
D.J. says:
Love the show, Love the characters, and of course love love the host… it’s awsome when city meets country…I had a Granny like Granny Rich, your very blessed John Rich…
Becky says:
Loved the show but was sad to see John show up in those fur coats. Unfortunately, the fur industry’s dirty little secret is the cruelty and often times torture these poor animals receive. I could never wear such cruelty on my back.
Patty says:
I very much enjoyed watching the first two episodes… Well thought out…Keeps you glued to the tv wanting more.
I can hardly wait to see what happens next.
cajunbelle says:
John,
I am really happy for you and your show….although i sure wish you are as nice to your fans as much as you are with the other celebs….we had bought vip passes for country jam in colorado and went to your meet and greet. to our suprise you were very rude for a southern boy…granny didn’t raise you like that and if she could have been beside you when you were so rude to us she would have fell off of her chair. I am very glad for your sucess. I hope if given the oppertunity to meet you again you will be a little ok a whole lot nicer…but as far as muzik goes you are very good..but never forget from where you come from.
Lisa says:
John,
I’m a new country music fan and have just started buying my fav cd’s (your was the second, after gretchen wilson of course) but let me tell you, if I would have seen you looking as good getting out of that helicopter before I bought hers I would have had you first. Great show!!!! Love the house!!!
Mystri says:
I love that song when John is getting off the helicopter!
Melanie says:
OH MY GOSH!! I always loved the sound of Big and RIch..John, your love for the new sounds in country music shows through and I love this show. You are talented and beautiful too. This Texas woman can’t wait to see what happens next!! Thanks
diane says:
Diana DeGarmo will go all of the way..I only wish you showed her belting out “Dreams” in its entirety..Loved the look on Carnies face when Diana opened her mouth to sing..What a trip!!!!
Mary in Pt Angeles says:
John- During the first episode while you were sitting at the table listening to Dee, I was so impressed by your class and composure. You, in turn, told each one of your guests something special about themselves– what a motivator you are! I look forward to future episodes and how each one of your guests develop into something more than even they believed they could be! I am personally rooting for Bobby Brown. He is so incredibly talented and people need to remember that about him–not all of the tabloid junk. I really hope he has success!!!
Kim says:
what a great show,Ive always been a fan of Diana DeGarmo and ive heard her sing country songs at some of her events, The Girl is OUTSTANDING! her version of Crazy is unbelievable.. roorting for her all the way… Thank you JOhn for giving her the opportunity to display her talented.
Cybill says:
I love this show, even been watching the reruns. But were is Big?
KellieGirl says:
Gone Country. Wow. What can I say. Just found it myself. Have always loved country music, but I also have a seriously eclectic stable of music in my collection ranging from Metallica to, of course, Big & Rich and Johnny Cash. And if Metallica can play with the San Francisco Symphony, Dee Snider can go country even if for a short adventure. Loved Twisted Sister in the 80s.
John, looking good in the shades brother! Met you in Mobile at Bayfest in ‘07. And briefly (actually not near long enough) again at the Silverstar casino show in Mississippi a few days later. Yes, we followed you guys around for awhile. Honestly, was relatively impressed with the willingness to hob knob with us lower lifeforms. Got some great pics to prove it! Would love to see you in Birmingham, Alabama soonest!
The B&R shows are like a three ring circus so it only makes sense that ‘Gone Country’ would be the same.
Oh, and for those of you B&R fans looking for some extra love, be sure out check out Big K’s ‘Live A Little’ CD and of course, JR’s ‘Underneath the Same Moon’. ‘Moon’ is a great example of the man’s talent. A little on the tradional side of country but an absolute showcase of a phenomenal voice - one sent straight from heaven in the hands of weeping angels. And, if anybody knows how I can get my hands on “Rescue Me’ , please let me know.
Good show John. And to the cast: Keep up the good work. I haven’t laughed this hard in ages and enjoy seeing where you guys have been all this time.
Much Love and luck!
K
Sonny-a-rita says:
What a fun show! I was excited to see Carnie Wilson and Maureen McCormick. I think they are a blast and would love to have them as girl friends!
I can’t wait for the next episode - this show is awesome!
Marcinda says:
Love the show! Now the “messed up mashed potatoes” makes sense. I saw the episode and could not figure out how it’s possible to mess up mashed potatoes!
Tina Ward says:
Hey John, if you’d let Granny Rich take this Northern girl under her wing, You won’t have to re-create these recipes when your sweet granny goes to Heaven…I’d promise her that I’d cook for you til death do us part! Will U marry me?
Amy Carter says:
I am enjoying this show! I think that people need to give these guys a chance and see what they can do with it. Don’t be so judgmental! Everyone has screwed up in life, one way or another. Everyone has different personalities and you just go with the flow. It makes life much easier for all involved.
Good Luck to all of the competitors and most of all…….HAVE FUN DOING THIS! Good Luck to John on everything he has going and will probably have going in the future.
Have Fun Guys and Enjoy Yourselves!

I enjoyed watching the first two episodes and look forward to the upcoming ones! Carnie, Maureen, Sisco, Julio, Diana, Dee and Bobby just in the two shows i’ve seen ya’ll rock! Keep making us laugh. God bless each one of ya’ll!
Michelle Jones says:
I think that it’s a great show and I think John’s doing a great job of hosting it. I have to agree with John’s Granny Rich “You put what in there”. I can’t wait to see what John has instore for them on the next show. I think it’s going to be very enteresting to see how this mix of artist come through this adventure and i also think everyone needs to give all these artist a chance and to let them reach their full potential because I think that each one of them can bring something different to the table. I have to say that if any one can motivate these artist it is John Rich.
Sharon says:
WOW! I LOVE THIS SHOW!! It was really funny to see Dee crawling around on the floor looking for coffee. I agree Bobby needs to lay off the booze and do what he went there for. I had never heard of Diana before as I do not watch American Idol, but wow, she was great! I loved Wilson Phillips and I think all Carnie needs is some self confidence. Being able to pull off the dinner should be a boost for her. They are all great in one way or another, but what’s up with Maureen? I saw the previews of the next show and she was saying how she is ‘totally attracted to Gretchen Wilson…she’s one hot little momma’. Better watch out, that country girl will kick her butt!
Keep up the good work John.
We love you and Kenny in NC.
Carol says:
I am enjoying the show so far. Can’t stand Dee and his “Alpha Male ” ego. That fit over coffee was stupid. Guess what Dee, you aren’t the big dog you think you are. Your attitude isn’t gonna make you a lot of “country” friends.
I was surprised by how really sweet Bobby Brown turned out to be, too bad he can’t overcome his problems. Mo is the “Mom” and they’d miss her if she was gone. I hope she gets over her case of nerves, I’d like to see her stay around. She’s gotta step up and perform though. And that house……..OMG. Amazing.
Doreen says:
What can I say! I’m not one to watch CMT, but while flicking channels Gone Country & My Redneck Wedding has indeed caught my attention. These shows are different from other reality shows. The people are real & authentic. Cudos to all of you who created, produced it down to the celebraties who participated in them. Thank you for sharing your real selves! Aloha from the islands!

HEY - YA ALL, (HI FRANCIS & DIANE)
GREAT GREAT SHOW !!!!
WE WERE ON VACATION IN NASHVILLE AND GOT TO PARTY WITH FRIENDS AND WATCH THE FIRST EPISODE IN A LOCAL BAR. AND OF COURSE WE CONTINUE TO WATCH IT BACK HERE IN IOWA. WISHED WE COULD OF BEEN THERE WHEN YOU WERE AT THE WILDHORSE SALOON.
ALWAYS HAVE HAD ALOT OF FUN COMING OUT TO NASHVILLE FOR OUR VACATIONS!
WE’RE ALWAYS LISTENING TO CMT AND 90% OF OUR CD’S ARE COUNTRY. MY HUSBAND WAS COUNTRY WHEN COUNTRY WASN’T KWEL. LOL
WE LIKE EVERYONE ON THE SHOW, EXCEPT FOR DEE. AND OUR PREDICTION IS DIANA DEGARMO WINNING…YOU GO GIRL !!!!!
(PS– LOVE THAT “THONG SONG”)
Geoff Taylor says:
I wasn’t really impressed with the show, actually. John Rich, whom I think isn’t really all that talented a performer in the first place, (singer, especially…)is trying to bring together a group of SEASONED artists, and he is going to “lead them into the ‘belly of the beast’” by having them perform onstage at Fuel in Nashville?
C’mon people…
“A jungle out there”? Dee Snyder can certainly attest to what a “Jungle” is out there. Metal shows are notorious for being wildly crazy events. A country venue? There is no comparison at all. Country music fans, for the most part, aren’t known for causing riots when an artist doesn’t “show”, or causing havoc on the streets as some Rap venus have been known to do.
There are a few exceptions to the rule, and I understand that. Hank Williams, Jr. (LOVE this guy!!!), Trent Tomlinson, Montgomery Gentry, Tim McGraw….these guys have a “rock” feel to their shows, and are good venues to attend.
John Rich would have the television audience to believe that a country music crowd would “tear up” his guests on his show…I don’t think so, John.
I can gaurantee that anyone….ANYONE… who has gotten on a Karaoke stage, and has sang a song in one of Nashville’s nightclubs, can handle a country music audience. Why? Because you have just come off the stage, and you had just DONE IT!!!!
Simple as that…
What the show Producers, writers, etc., etc., SHOULD have done is to bring aboard a select group of aspiring performers who LIVE for the dream of performing on stage, LIVE for the chance for fame, fortune, and everything that goes with it, and have them “tested” on the venues that Nashville has to offer.
John Rich has brought these veterans of the music industry to his gawdy, over the top log home in Nashville to “impress” them? THEM? Has anyone seen the home of Bobby Browne and his wife, Whitney Housten?
He then arrives in a Faux fur coat (floor length), on a helicopter at the estate…and doesn’t “spill a drop of his drink”…to impress these people? THESE people?
John, try that gawdy performance on “nobodies” who haven’t lived the lifestyle. Haven’t been there…done that….
You show an aspiring country music singer THAT kind of home, THAT kind of transportation, THAT kind of money, THEN you would have whatever kind of competition you you would wish for.
I would be honored for the chance to prove my point John….e-mail me.

John Rich you rock. You know your friand Brad the drummer you played with. Me and my dad know him and it’s so cool to know someone who know a celebrity. Any way I love that Gone Country show. show them what real Country is!
Cooper says:
I tried to watch this show but none of them are country and none of them will succeed in the country music business. I had to stop watching after they all had to smash the guitars. there is absolutly nothing country abouth smashing instruments! If you want to know country music go look at George Strait, and ask yourself, “would King George ever smash a perfectly good guitar?” NO Way!! smashing instruments is a crime and in no way is acceptable, Shame on you John and all the contestants. although Bobby was still passed out so he actually did not do it.
Shelley says:
This is a great show. John you are a very talented & good looking guy. I saw you and Big Kenny in concert in Vegas in Dec. what a great show you guys put on. Your Granny is a pretty awesome Lady. You are very lucky. I can’t wait until Fri. to see the next show.
guitarman says:
John, you all never should have destroyed all of those perfectly fine guitars. Because of that act alone I will not be watching your show again. That was not only a bad example, but just of all the organizations that really need equipment of that nature. This was the same response that I had when Pete Townsend and Garth Brooks would do this same thing. They are both are great performers however, they lost me as a fan to this day. Maybe if you were to appologize and donate the same number of Gibsons to a worthy cause I could probably forget that it ever happened.
kim southwick says:
i am southern hospitality…. my cooking would make you slap granny rich off her chair (no offense granny rich). not to be overconfident but…. every time i watch my stomach tingles at how perfect i am for this show.. i’ve grown up singing in church and school and weddings… i am not afraid. where can i send a demo tape John Rich or John Rich’s wife???

Maureen, stop trying to shake off Marsha Brady. Most people don’t ever get to touch so many peoples’ lives that way. Everyone wanted to be you. You were beautiful then and you are beautiful now. You have grown up to be a lovely women with a beautiful heart, and you seem like you would be so much fun to hang out with. So sing girl!!!! We have always been here and always will be here for you. You have more years of experience than all of these people put togethe. You have been in front of the camera your whole life. Come on Mo. I know you can do it. And Carne, give me some of that beautiful music you gave us when you were with Wilson Phyllips. Where is this insecurity coming from. We love you guys. Your fans have always been here for you. I am waiting for you to relize that. Don’t let me down sisters…

Let me just say that I love everyone in the house!!! each one adds so much to the show! But seriously someone has to get Dee some coffee!!! If I could, I would send him a thermos or two:) I’m a big coffeeaholic myself!

2nd, I don’t normally watch CMT or listen to country. But this shows has me and my wife both watching this show and some others, like crossroads.
What ever you are doing with these 7 people you are definately on the right track!
I think Big & Rich is also on the right track!
Keep pushing those boundries and keep up the good work.

But Dee Snider i think should go. i mean i like a few song of his but he`s got an additued! but good luck everyone! i`m really good at singing but i would never sing in front of a whole bunch of people! Rock On guys and Girls!
cypress says:
you know what i think Dee Snider should stay i`ve changed my mind but good luck anyways
tz1honey says:
John,
Love the show..I watch it every week. I do agree with lots of others on here, Dee is such a butt and needs to have it taken down a couple of notches. When he told you that he didn’t like country music, wow this coming from a guy that had his teeth filed down and make-up and he thinks that country musics bad. Don’t get me wrong I loved Twisted Sister, but I was raised Country, live it still. But, Dee needs to get over his self. Keep it country and keep it coming each week.
EwardBevis says:
I am really not too much of a country fan and started watching it last week however whoever created the concept should be praised. I couldn’t stop laughing everything Marcia Brady did she screamed Dee Snider the close up and he says “she should be nmedicated” great reality T.V. I think when John Rich came out of the heli and the black rapper went country pimp excellent its how the reactions are filmed my cudos to CMT.
Carla says:
I need to be on the show to show all them how to cook… your granny would be proud!
tabbykatt911 says:
As for you Geoff Taylor, John Rich is more talented than you could ever imagine…not only is he a great singer; he’s an entertainer. He DOES what you only dream about. And who are you to put down country music fans anyway?? How many country music concerts have you attended?? I could probably count them on one hand, as you are content with being a couch potato & daydreaming about how you are “gonna one day wow the crowd.” Face it honey, it’s never gonna happen because you are too busy mouthing to put pen to paper. Singing karaoke is a whole different ballgame than entertaining a country music crowd on a REAL stage!! Jeez!! All you’re trying to do is challenge John Rich so he’ll take notice of you. Trust me, it ain’t gonna work. He doesn’t have time to read this blog I’m sure.
Sooooooo…what I’m gonna do is put a challenge out there for you. You want that fame & fortune?? Then do what I told ya to…put pen to paper & get out there & prove yourself. You’re not getting any younger & karaoke is not gonna make it happen for you. I’m not saying you don’t have talent…you are talented…but just sitting & talking about it & dreaming about it is not getting you anywhere. Get up off the couch & do it!!
PATTY says:
THIS SHOW IS GREAT. WE WATCH IT MORE THAN ONCE A WEEK. JOHN RICH IS A GENIUS, AND AS IN COUNTRY WEEKLY, ONE HOT BACHOLER. HE KNOWS HOW TO DRESS, WRITE GREAT SONGS, GREAT SINGER AND ARTIST,AND A TRUE LARGE COUNTRY HEART.
HE AND THE MUZIC MAFIA HAVE ADDED ANOTHER FLAVOR TO COUNTRY MUSIC. I ALSO THINK IT WAS GOOD THAT SOMEONE LIKE JOHN AND HIS GROUP BOUGHT THAT HOME FROM BARBARA MANDRELL, AN ICON IN COUNTRY MUSIC. AND JOHN AND IS PARTNERS ARE ANOTHER ICON.
JOHN, JUST KEEP ON KEEPIN ON BECAUSE YOU ARE HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amy C says:
I have really enjoyed watching these folks but I think your hands are going to be full with Bobby and Dee. If you can keep Bobby out of the sauce he might have a chance. Plesae keep coffee on hand for DEE. I’m not sure which is worse listening to Dee wine about not having coffee or listening to a baby who is in need of a bottle. By the way John there are a few of us who have been raised in the north that know what hospitality is. Have fun with this group!
Carmella Vest says:
J.R.I know you love your house, and where it is.But how could you sell off of that land? You will lose your peace and quiet. Here in Texas we are losing all of our nature due to development.People move to the country for just that, peace and quiet.Well when someone sees that market, everyone else moves there too..Not just one by one but in mass…I could not do that…A big suburb out side of Dallas,on the major thoughfare,I saw 2 coyotes sitting, don’t know if they were waiting to cross 6 lanes of traffic,or what. What happens to all of the animals,in all of that land? They move to those homes, and eat peoples pets and such.If you would please rethink selling off all of your property….You have done such a good job so far. What does your Granny think about your decision? She remembers what it was like before money took over the country..I admire you,but think of your children someday..What a legacy you will leave them, when you could have made millions on selling, you left the outdoors alone…
danah says:
Hey guys, just a note when someone hands you a recipe get their approval before tweeking it. That is just down home country courtesy. J.R. I would never put garlic in your granny’s mashed potatoes, unless you wanted me to. Come on Mo find your backbone I know it’s there, have a little faith in yourself, I do.
sid53 says:
i am totally smitten with maureen. who wouldnt be affraid, intimidated by the rest of the cast? let me be there one time as a support team memeber, system. she is hot and a doll and can do the work she needs to do to pull off a perfomance. let me be there to back her!!!!!! to support her!!!!!!!!!
larry stewart says:
J.R. well you are supposed to be teaching the the city folks the ways of the country. I am not trying to be a wise guy.
Why were you wearing your hat at the dinner table?
I don’t allow my boys to wear there hat at the table and the cast is kind of disrespectful to each other.
J.R. set some ground rules and get them to act like respectful country folk. This world would be a lot better place if people would just slow down, relax and have good manners.
Southern Girl says:
John, You’re a precious guy and a great songwriter and entertainer and you probably don’t care to hear from a “Miss Manners,” but cowboys don’t wear ther hats at the table. Your Granny should have told you that - AND made you take that hat off at the big dinner you had the “Gone Country” stars host in her honor!!!
klueluz says:
I have changed my mind about Dee Snider after watching the show .He really seems to be embracing the whole Country thing.I didnt care for him after the first show. But now I am actually hoping he pulls this off.Keep up the good work Dee.
Doug Texas says:
John,
It was great to see the cross section of folks you picked for the show. It is evident you did your homework on each of them and the whole show itself. You are proving to those NOT in country, that you are an intelligent hardworking individual taht loves his work. My hat’s off to you brother.
Heather says:
Being from East Texas, growing up in a musical family(my grandmother could play a 12 string, aunts and uncles pianos/guitars,everyone can sing), I must say that country music is truly part of the very fabric of my being. But as I got older, I enjoyed both country with some “club” music intertwined. I think what your doing is amazing. Every music genre seems to have a “cookie cutter mold” and I must say, you surely are spicing up country music. Love the show……..
Brandie says:
I have to say that I have at least 1 cassett or CD by each artist, except Julio.(sorry). But Diana is my favorite to win. She is already country and has a beautiful voice.
tootsie says:
OMG!!!!JOHN RICH…….YOU ARE ONE SEXY MAN!!I LOVE YOUR SHOW, AND, ALL THE ARTISTS ARE WONDERFUL!!I WAS SO DISSAPOINTED IN MAUREEN FOR NOT SINGING!!!KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK.AND JOHN, SOME PEOPLE ARE RAGGING ON YOU FOR WEARING THE HAT AT THE DINNERTABLE, WELL,IT IS PERFECTLY ALLRIGHT WITH ME IF THAT IS ALL YOU WEAR TO THE DINNERTABLE!!!!LOVE YOUR SHOW!!
Lynn Border says:
Attention: John Rich, I would like for you too know that I am working for the lady that you went too the prom with, and her name is Melissa. She now is running the Rainbow Skating Center, and she is very fun too work for. My question and i know it is alot too ask, but Could you and would you try too come too Clarksville Tennessee, and come too the Rainbow Skate Center, and surprise her, and John I know you are big on doing things as well for the troops and my husband is in Iraq as we speak now, and I also told Melissa that if we had too raise Money too get you too come that we could have an all night skate and raise the money that way. Please try too find time too do this we would all love too see you there. We do play your song there: Save A Horse Ride A Cowboy, and you yourself would have fun skating with all the people there.
THANKS A BUNCH, LYNN BORDER!!!
Traci says:
I love the show and I was wondering How you would ever change Dee Snider and Bobby Brown from their type of music to country. I have to admit that you do look good in those clothes you were JR!! NUMMY :)~
Bobbi says:
JR, Im from Idaho….and trust me, your Granny Rich is right…you DONT put garlic in mashed potatos…lol.
kelby says:
This show is about a freakin joke this is suppose to be music tv not all this reallity show BS I want the music videos back not these stupid shows like this and redneck wedding, trick my trucker, any more of your gay crap. O and COUNTRY MUSIC no more of your POP crap and you all mit outa check out the red dirt scene Like Jason Boland I can not believe youll dont have a Jason Boland video witch is country but you have the eagles and bon jovi witch isnt even country in my book.I can’t not believe what country music has came to. All the great heros of country music would ben ashamed to been considered country music if this is what you say country music is. All these wantabe country music stars are not country they are pop music.
Jason says:
Gone Country is a great show and loved all of the episodes especially this one where the cast cooks a great southern meal. John Rich’s grandma should definitely put a cookbook on all of these great recipes. The whole cast of the show was so funny at the supermarket.
Diana Degarmo will be on American Idol Extra on May 1, 2008 on the Fox Reality Channel. She will be interviewed and perform her new single Right Back Where We Ended. Diana has been signed to John Rich’s production company.
Way to go again to the cast of Gone Country, episode 2 of the show was especially fun for everyone watching.

Phyllis Justice says:
I watched a cooking show a couple of years ago where one of the country music stars made an enchilada casserole using Doritos. I made the dish many times, but failed to write it down. It has been a long time since I made the dish and now my kids ask for it, but I forgot how to make it and would like to have the recipe. Where can I find the recipes from this show?
Please let me know as there were many that I wish I had written down. I did make many and thought I would remember them, but old age is a terrible thing.
Thanks
