Can I Get an "Amen" for Kid Rock?
It's funny I find myself yet again writing about the kid -- Kid Rock, that is. I've covered one of his concerts (boy, was that an experience) and I've written a blog about his so-called "Cowboy" self-proclamations and persona. However, this time I'm writing about him in a different light. I have to say, and a bit reluctantly, he's impressed me this time. I think Kid Rock's really had a growing spurt.
I've always felt like somewhat of a closet-fan of Kid Rock because I've been a bit ashamed of his so-called "America Badass" image. I don't enjoy his vulgarity or his Waffle House antics, but I truly can appreciate his voice when he's actually singing. Aside from his past music filled with random screaming of his name or yelling obscenities simply for the sake of repeating profanities a bunch of times in a row, Kid Rock has a voice and a talent. Sometimes it's just hard to see through all the smoke. (He doesn't call himself a "stoned pimp" for nothing.)
But it has finally happened. It's like I always knew he had it in him. The beginning of the video conveys tragedy, catastrophe and death. However, these are eventually paralleled with fireworks, smiles, "Freedom," children and Kid Rock singing "Amen" with a gospel choir at the ending of the video. I truly find it touching. I can actually say that Kid Rock gave me chills, and not from embarrassment. You can feel his passion for what he's saying and can feel what he's singing.
My favorite line -
"Somewhere you got a brother, sister, friend, grandmother, niece or nephew
Just dying to be with you /
You know there's someone out there who unconditionally, religiously, loves you
So just hold on ‘cause you know it's true."
And it is true. Though he may still call himself a "Devil Without a Cause," he's made me proud on this one. Way to go, Kid. Can I get an "Amen?"

I’ve been a Kid Rock fan for years and have never been ashamed to say so. I love this man and his voice and songwriting has done nothing but IMPROVE every year. I love this album. If I had to choose a favorite of his it would be right up there. I just had the honor of yet again seeing him in concert and he not only met all my expectations…he surpassed them! No matter what style of music he is singing at the time, he can not be beat. The man just has an awesome voice and he’s very easy on the eyes as well.

I guess I’ll be the only one in the bunch to place an opposite view on Kid’s “Amen.” Specifically where in the lyric he claims he’s ashamed of his race.
I believe the author hit it on the head stating his music consisted of “his vulgarity, Waffle House antics, random screaming of his name, yelling obscenities simply for the sake of repeating profanities a bunch of times in a row.”
Apparantly the origin of such fine upstanding standards is the race that he’s truly proud of.
I can’t offer such an open door, welcoming Kid to country. The music industry is already filled with enough thugs. The “shame” is that Kid’s being a redneck thug with country friends is going to perpetuate our last stand for human responsibilty, family values and non-violent music - Country Music.
Looks like if we hold out long enough though, Kid can bring to country music, pride in murder, breaking, entering and cool pimpin’ the bitches. Apparantly THAT’s how one takes pride in their race. Check out the first single from this Amen record, “So Hott” It’s a beautiful lil diddy about the beauty of a woman. Far from Country.
Too bad. The review above actually lends itself to Kid acting more like the race he IS a part of.

I don’t personally care for Kid Rock, but I must say that while I was listening to the lyrics, I made a connection. He seems to be somewhat rough around the edges, but that is what makes the different artist stand out.
carie says:

Shanie says:
I’m sorry, but I will have to “DISAGREE” with the post that was written by “Really?” The Lord Works in Mysterious Ways. Since Our Nations great tragic loss of 9/11. Our soliders have been in a “Hell”. Fighting for what we, as the people fight for every day. Which is “Justice”. That can be sought for, in so many different ways. We have suffered some much loss, there isn’t enough tears to cry. The great artists of country music have given us “The People” a voice to be heard. Since that day of 9/11. From “Toby Keith”, “Alan Jackson”, “Willie Nelson”…etc.etc.etc. the list is endless & we’ve been Proud of each & everyone of those songs that fight for our RED-WHITE & BLUE. Then God sent another kind of Angel with the same fight. “THE KID”.. We are all “GUILTY” of expressing ourselves in a vulgar manner. So, to point a shaking finger at Kid Rock is wrong. If for one moment, the offical’s at CMT thought “KID ROCK” himself as a person. Was vulgar, rude & inconsiderate they wouldn’t allow him any rights. Or post his music video “AMEN”. I Myself, as an American am Proud of “KID ROCKS” out reach. “AMEN” to the Offical’s at CMT for showing us what Country Music People are really all about. “LOVING YOUR FELLOW MAN OR WOMAN” & for standing behind the “TRUE MEANING” of country music which is…”WORDS SPOKEN FROM THE HEART”…You did a GREAT JOB with the song “AMEN” Kid Rock…Keep holding your head up as you do & it’s nice for a change to see someone as yourself, never being afraid to be who you really are. Your Blessed. For the rest of us, take a lesson from “THE KID”. Be TRUE to YOURSELF NO MATTER the COST!!

Rhonda says:
Well, I am, to the bone, an old school rocker, and have been a fan of anything you do, and get it that you are a ROCKER…sometimes that means a little outlaw in there. Wouldn’t have it any other way.
BTW, I am a 57 year old grandma in SoCal.
This whole album rocks and has so much truth and heart. Love ya dude!
“ROCK AND ROLL JESUS” “AMEN” BROTHER!!!
