Trace Adkins Suggests a New Kind of Rehab

Posted: January 15th, 2008 at 3:55 pm  |  By: Chet Flippo

Trace AdkinsI was paging idly through Trace Adkins’ book, A Personal Stand, and ran a across a little passage I had missed reading when the book came out a few months ago. I like Trace and -- although I don’t always agree with everything he says -- he educates himself on issues and speaks his mind and I admire him for that. Anyhow, here’s the passage I missed:

Here’s a bit of sage advice. Don’t say nothin’ you can’t take back. I read that they’ve expanded drug and alcohol rehab for celebrities to include sensitivity rehab. How about Asshole Rehab? We all heard about the TV stars that used offensive slurs in public, and the drunken movie star who made anti-Semitic remarks to the cops. Haven’t we all done or said something at one time or another that we regret, that we don’t have any excuse for? With Asshole Rehab, we can say whatever we want to say; say it in a way that’s going to make a headline, and then it’s off to Asshole Rehab you go.

This would be just so much empty posturing if Adkins had not gone through a legal baptism by fire himself. When he was arrested for DUI, he didn’t say anything. He didn’t try to pussyfoot his way out of his mess. He owned up in court, pled guilty, did his time in jail and kept his mouth shut.

I still can’t understand why celebrities have a mind to be regular non-celebrity status drunk-ass people after they get to be the celebrity they desired to be. Being a drunk is something regular people should be responsible for being. In other words, why can’t they just stand there and pose until we’re done with them…and then when we get tired of looking at them and toss them in the bone pile…they can get drunk and drive and beat up their husbands and wives and kids and not wear underwear in public all they want.

Trace is also my 2nd favorite country singer. He represents
us, the people who work and have everyday lives. I have a lot of respect for him. I have followed his career and he has worked hard and paid his dues. So what if he still makes a mistake or two. He is one of us. No one is perfect.

Keep the honesty and great songs coming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a recovering Meth addict. I think celebrities should be treated just like everyday people when it comes to drug addict. They think since they are celebrities they are better then us. If they are busted put them in jail with the rest. Do not give them special treatment. They are no better then us. They just have more money. I have been clean for 4 years now. If I can get clean and stay clean after using a 8- ball of Meth a day so can celebrities. They think they are better then us because they have money. But Trace is nothin like all the other celebrities. Thats what makes him so great. Keep up the good work Trace. We can wait for the to come back to SW. Virginia. We love you Trace.

I think Trace is the Real American kind he is the “pull no punches” type! He feels is just like we are, a human being with the same problems to deal with everyday! In reading his book I got a better insight on what kind of person he really is as a rule! Just a regular but extremely smart
person! He is “what you see is what you get” type! That is why his fans LOVE HIM SO MUCH, including myself!

Trace is #1 !! Will he be at Country Thunder Arizona this
April? His show got rained out last year and I was SOOO disappointed. My husband and I got to see a lot of great
country artists over our 4 days there but it was still a
real disappointment. Hope he will be in the lineup this year. There’s a little gap in his schedule in April - does
anyone know if he will be there or not?

Trace is the BOMB!!! Saw him last year in Atlantic City and he tore up the house. Last night I caught him on that crazy Late Late Show w/ that crazy Craig Ferguson who I can’t understand to save my life. Trace looked hot…black, tight jeans and a black t-shirt & hoodie… He was quite the entertainer last night. Wish I could go to AC tomorrow where he’ll be performing. Good luck to you in the future…try to come to Philadelphia’s Wachovia Center…we can fill it for you!!!

I first saw Trace in ‘96 I think on an awards show, possibly The Academy of Country Music Awards, and he sang either “Thinkin’ Thing” or “Lonely Won’t Leave Me Alone” and I was hooked. He also received an award that year….or in his words, a door stop or boat anchor. I just finished his book and it was very entertaining. I was laughing outloud with the real life stories, feeling sad with others, saying “right on” about some opinions and then totally disagreeing with a few too. Trace is the complete package, and seeing his live performances are just awesome…3 times for me and my family.

You and your music are a favorite around our house! I’m pleased to see my teenage daughter listening to your CDs rather than a lot of the other garbage out there today! I, her 46 year old “mama”, have your music on my laptop as well! The hearts of average, hard working Americans are touched by the thread of “common life” that permeates your music. Keep up the great work, and please come to Minnesota soon–though you might want to do it when it’s not 20 below zero like it is today! God Bless You!

Trace should keep on keeping on but tame the lingo a bit..

Love his songs and he is a very intelligent man, noted after having seen him and hear him speak. Good Luck To Trace. He just makes me laugh with his ways & he is country! Intelligent and funny, what a mix!
I think the celebs would far benefit more to be required after a while, to seek therapy. Rehab seems to be just a spa treatment for the rich and regulars go to jail. They obviously need some counseling big time! Driving when drunk
you should be ( after that first time) tried as a killer. In fact, I know people who were killed by drunk drivers. Get a Limo to the Stars, my advice. To common people, like me, give your friend your keys upon entering bars, the one who doesn’t drink. Good Luck to Trace!

It is strange how the comments have nothing really to do with the blog. The blog was written by Chet Flippo, and yet the comments are directed to the artist as if it were a fan site and not a commentary.

For me, there is too much focus on what you do after you have done something wrong. How about getting it right in the first place? BTW, I think his book is rather negative.

I totally agree with the “asshole rehab” But I think the media is to blame for alot of it. How often do you hear about the preformers that go overseas & entertain & support our tropps, how often do you hear about the charity work they do, etc? But let them get drunk and OMG that’s all we hear. I’d much rather hear about the 100’s of good things that they do. I think some stars only misbehave to stay in the spot light.

I admire Trace, he’s kinda been there done that. No whining, no complaining just fess us and deal with it.

I enjoyed it so much I got up at 6am my time, too watch it again, there should be more shows like this, at least one a Month for the puplic to hear,Thank you it had me remembering some old times when I went to church as a young girl. I am 67 now. I loved hearing all those old hymns again, and surprized that I rem all the words still. Carrie Underwood did a wonderful job off singing How Great Thou Art. TY again & God Bless. Lola

I agree with Trace. There should be a @#$%&*# rehab. I can tell you this, it would be packed and maybe not enough to hold all the @#@#$%&# out there. I respect the man for taking his punishment like a man when he was stopped for drunk driving. He didn’t hide behind his celebrity. He owned up and paid his dues. I truly respect him for that. He is what I call a REAL MAN. I wish more men were like him. In his younger days he was a little on the wild side, but he has make a complete turn around. I just pray he always stays on the right track. He is a great entertainer. My best wishes to him, his wife, children and now his new grandbaby. She must be gorgeous. Her mama is a beautiful young lady.

Love the deep voice…a real pleasure to hear, and the Celebrity Apprentice
I just had to watch because he is on it. So far he is in the last 5. I hope
he made it. He has to have proven to many that you can be on that program and be a gentleman and it isn’t a “girly” thing.

BTW you young ladies with the hormones flowing freely…have you ever seen his wife?? She is a beauty…….she not letting Him go! I think he is pretty special too, but I have to resist drooling so much…Makes for too much laundry.

well, i predicted wrong! Trace didn’t win “celebrity apprentice” but, i am proud of the way he carried himself thru the whole show! he is a tru southern gentleman! everyone in the south should be proud of him!!!as i’m sure they are! i was hoping he would win but he did his best and stayed respectful thru the show! i’m sure his family is very proud of him as we all are in the country music world! he did a great job with the situation with the “back street boys” they put him thru hell but he handled it with grace and dignity and it was with it! his team did a great job putting the show together! “KUDOS” to you TRACE ADKINS good luck to you and your family i have worked in a “daycare” where we had children with food allergies and it is scary to think you might give a child something they are allergic to. i was the cook in the daycare so i watched carefully what i did. if we had peanut butter sandwhiches that day i would make theirs bfore anyone elses was made! so good luck with your daughter you have beautiful family

Trace is right on with what he thinks……Celebs go on and treat life like an unwanted penny..Always in rehab and we as a fan base are supposed to feel sorry for them I THINK NOT…After their rehab we are subjected to hearing more about them and how sucessful they are. Keep your Keith Urbans and others who whine. Trace will become an outcast to the establishment for his opinion…Thats right “HIS” opinion, if you don’t like it don’t read it. I personally respect the man for what he has done with his life. Like it or not world, folks like me are out here and will always support guys like Trace

I’m from Maine and I am having trouble finding your music videos. I emailed itunes telling them I wasn’t impressed,so I did get some of older albums however I cannot get the videos shown on this site i.e. chrome, etc. So can you help out the fans in Maine?
