Sizing Up the Competition on Clash of the Choirs
Hey, this is Blake. I'm sitting here on my tour bus with my mom and sister who just flew in this afternoon. It's their first time in NYC. We just finished our last dress rehearsal. We have an hour before we go live on NBC. I was able to shape up the competition and I know we got Nick Lachey's boy band -- I mean choir -- beat. Patti LaBelle is a doll. She loves my song, "Drink Until You Die." I didn't have the heart to tell her it's "The More I Drink." We talked about going drinking sometime after the show.
Earlier today Miranda and I went shopping. She was looking for something green to wear tonight since my choir, Team Shelton, will be dressed in green. She took me to the meat-packing district and lured me into Bloomingdales promising that there would be a Bass Pro Shop. I saw some camo, but it wasn't exactly what I was looking for.
I am really excited about tonight, and I need to go grab a drink so I will be ready to go ... if you know what I mean. Be looking for me. I think they might let me be on camera. And remember to vote.

You and the choir were great. You looked great, always very handsome, perfect hair, but I did not love the shiny black jacket. Your choir did the best, then Michael Bolton’s, even though I cannot imagine who his voters are. The biggest surprise was Patti LaBelles’s choir. Not to be a so critical, but they were unremarkable and disappointing.
lj says:
You sound pretty arrogant. I thought your choir could have done better and you should have sung “Home” which is a much better song. I have never heard of the song you performed. Sounds like you’re too much into drinking.
Kim says:
Just reading the above comment. Never hear “Life is a Highway”. What’s up? Great job Blake. I thought they did great. I wasn’t impressed at all with Patti Labelle’s group. Good luck! I didn’t forget to vote!
Kim says:
Okay, “never heard”. Sorry for the typo.
Jana says:
Hello, Mr. Shelton and friends-
Saw that premiere of “Choirs..” and thought your part in it was the usual funny banter…
Especially the parts where the auditioners didn’t have any “choir experience” and you say “Me neither!”
LOL!
Cool cool cool that those army guys got to be a part of this too!
But I do have to wonder why the songs that are rehearsed aren’t the same ones performed on the show? That Marc Broussard song “Home” is so great! Not that Rascal Flatt’s remake of Tommy Cochran’s “Life is a Highway” isn’t, but a couple of your team members were a bit off-key there for a second-

Frankly, I liked all the choirs. Top to bottom but man! your choir ROCKED THE HOUSE! Well done! Got my ten votes! What is it y’all put in the water in OK anyway?
My favorite part was watching your two Doggies try to dance. Try giving them a cadence next time and they’ll nail it! Huah! :-o (juuuust teasin’!)
“Sounds like you’re too much into drinking.” Huh? Is there even such a thing? ;-)
Have a good time in NYC and good luck keeping Miranda outa’ your wallet (ain’t gonna’ happen so you might as well accept it or you will be assimilated. heh!). ‘Tis the season…….. for new duck decoys, 4-wheelers, and maybe a new 7mm08!
Great job!
Laurie says:
Team Shelton rocked. Way to go Blake. Don’t ya just love NYC.
Laurie says:
Oh yea I voted too.
Susan Upchurch says:
Hey Blake! Team Shelton got my ten votes last night and Team Shelton will get my ten votes tonight! I hope Team Shelton wins the competition! Team Shelton is the greatest!
Yvonne says:
You are so damn funny. If the awesome choir you’re putting together doesn’t bring in the votes, you will. You’re personality is great, and what a sense of humor! I’m an even bigger fan.
Linda says:
Great choir - but you make the show. I never realized how funny you are, and how good looking! I love, love, love Miranda. She is awesome. Great couple.
becky says:

Linda says:

[...] Blake Shelton had time for some good natured ribbing on the CMT Blog before his Clash of the Choirs TV shows a couple of nights ago and threw in some news for you Miranda buffs. Earlier today Miranda and I went shopping. She was looking for something green to wear tonight since my choir, Team Shelton, will be dressed in green. She took me to the meat-packing district and lured me into Bloomingdales promising that there would be a Bass Pro Shop. I saw some camo, but it wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. [...]
Beth says:
No surprise that your team came in first the first night (is that too many firsts? naw, never too many firsts!)
Anyway, you got 70 votes from my husband, Tim, and me (10 on the phone, 10 on each of our cell phones [and we bought them JUST to vote for you on this show ... heh] and 10 each from each of our email accounts.
Seriously, you were the best. At first I felt ashamed that I would be voting because I love ya’, (but I got over that real quick like), and then I saw you actually deserved to win! Will wonders ever cease?
So, did you get Miranda those $10,000 … I mean $5,000 [not!] earrings? When’s the wedding? Your Christmas plans with both your and Miranda’s families sounds like there might be a wedding in 2008 … hmmmmmmmmmmmmm?
Meanwhile, back to the subject at hand: you looked gorgeous; I’m afraid some of the people on the show didn’t ‘get’ your humor (but that’s their loss; you were hilarious as usual … please do an hour with Nan; you and she are great together!), but when they showed you giving your team the rhythm it was easy to see that you know what you’re doing; I can’t stand the Flat Rascals’ version of ‘Life Is A Highway’, but loved it by Team Shelton!
Your team WILL win and you will get your own show on NBC, so say I.
Barb says:
All I can say is GO TEAM SHELTON GO!!!! I can’t go a day without music, it’s a basic, essential part of my life. When you told the choir that they had to feel it and believe what they were singing in order for the fans to believe, well I totally agree! Good job Blake and Good Luck with the rest of the competition!!!! I’ll be watching.
Jennifer says:
Blake,
Your choir is doing a GREAT job, it says a lot about the man directing them and the energy he brings to them when you see the enthusiasm they put into each performance. Maybe it’s because I’m a BSer but I have full confidence that your choir will destroy your only competition which I see as patti Labelles. Personally I thought their 2nd performance wasn’t so good so, keep rallying that choir of yours and we’ll keep voting our fingers off! PS…Without your personality and charisma that show would be dead when the choirs are not performing. As always thank you for entertaining us Blake!!!
Macioge Family says:
We in Ponca City vote for your team…..too. Good luck….have memories of childhood in Ada, Oklahoma

Virginia says:
Blake you are awesome! What you have done with your choir is amazing. I was holding my breath when you were in the bottom 2 tonight, I am glad I can breath again. Your new fan from Connecticut! CT wants Team Shelton to WIN!
Cindy says:
Blake- I think you have done an awesome job and are a great representative of Oklahoma spirit!! I love the songs and the choir is awesome. I think you are at a disadvantage since Patti seems to be using her staff, musical director and anyone else to help and it seems to be just you and your choir. You have gotten all of my votes and I hope the rest of Oklahoma votes as well. Good Luck and GO TEAM SHELTON.
Tony says:
Blake, all of the choirs are really great, but the rendition of “Joy To The World” performed by Team Shelton tonight was truly awesome!! The blend of harmonies and voices sent chills up my spine. Please, PLEASE follow up with what you have started and use these guys and girls in the studio!
Deborah says:
Dear Blake, You ROCK!! I’m from the Northeast, I never listen to country music and I had no idea who you were until watching this show, but DAMN, you have that somethin’ somethin’ and have completely won me over!! Funny, smart, tall and handsome, and I can see in your eyes that you have heart. I just voted for your choir 6 times and I think the last time I voted for anything or anybody was Season One of American Idol. I hope you win it all the way.
