Tim McGraw’s Tips for Being a Rock Star

Posted: July 23rd, 2007 at 12:12 pm  |  By: Lance Miller

Lance Miller with Tim McGrawIt is amazing how the time is flying by for this half of the tour. I just wrapped up another great week. Our show in Columbus, Ohio, was really the high point of the week for me. It started at lunchtime that day and went through the finale of the show. I sat down to have lunch with Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. Whenever I spend time with Faith, I always walk away some great advice.

Darran Smith, the band leader for Tim’s band, the Dance Hall Doctors, played with me that night on the MyGig Infotainment stage. Then Faith let me use her backup singers, Crystal T. and Monet, during my set at the pre-show party. Those women are the best singers I’ve ever heard — along with Faith, of course.

During the last song, “It’s Only Love,” Tim and Faith always invite me to come up and sing. It’s really fun — sometimes I play guitar, some nights it’s tambourine, and I even bang the cowbell on occasion. Well, in Columbus, when I was playing guitar, Tim pulled me up on the main part of the stage with him, then he started fixin’ my shirt like his and he whispered in my ear, “If you wanna be a rock star, you better start acting like one.”

The First time I heard Bucky Covington’s, “It’s Another World”, I was on my way home from work. His voice was so country to me and when listening to the lyrics of the song, it really hit home. I was determined to catch his name so I could look for his album. I was shocked to see he was so young with such a heart touching voice. I hope to see him go places because he sure made quite the impression on me and everyone I have talked to about his song loves it. Hats off to Bucky!

I remember the Good Ole days in Nashville,Tennessee, I was the staff Drummer at the Rose room, Tim worked at the Texana Grill, and Faith worked for Gary Morris,They had a contest every monday night, Tim, Tracy Lawrence,Deanna Carter and more, Chadd Brock etc. John Marcus was the Best Bass Guitar player on the block!!! Tim moved to Town May the 9th 1989 (the same day they found Keith Whitley
dead, and was at the all of fame bar and this song writer would get up and sing (Geig Wiseman) and Tims Drummer is Billy Mason, my first name is Mason so people were comming up to me and saying “I heard you were playing for Tim McGraw?” I would Just Laugh (wrong Mason)
a few years Later I was asking John Boy for passes!!! it’s funny how Tables turn in Life
PS. I hate Carrie Underhim! her Fanclub stoled money from me! nappy headed Ho!!!

Lance Miller is a whole lot of Talent and about time he is making it to the big time. I was lucky enough to catch his show at the Palace in Michigan. He is a true talent and funny one liners on stage adds to his show.
I love the Jesus and George Jones song. He is a honest hard working personable person, I am so glad I got the chance to meet him in person.
    Great job Lance.

it is garbage. Did you see the news and the gallant way Faith handled the fan who touched tim in the wrong way? They are too in to each other to consider breaking up. You know the gossip and how cheap it is when it comes to celebs.

What a tallent this man is. so many of his songs come from his life experiences. Not knowing who his dad was until he was 11 and then getting to know him helped shape him who he has become. There is no way he could write the sone Live Like You are Dieing as a tribute to his dad Tug if he did not Love him. Well I am lucky enough to know Tim’s 11 year old brother who is the greatest kid. Tug was his father too and much like Tim he will not and does not have his dad in his life now. Its too bad that Tim does not know his little brother…he is the same age that Tim was when he found his dad and he could really use a positive Male roll modle in his life at this time. Tim you are missing out on the most important thing in life, its not the songs, the fans, the money, the fame, one day all of that will be gone and all you really have is your family. You should get to know this very tallented and cool kid that is your brother.
