New Friends and New Music

Adam HoodI was thinking about this the other day: You know when you just “click” with someone musically or friendship-wise or whatever, right when you meet them? Well, I look at my closest relationships and a lot of them I would consider “new” friendships because they have been growing over the course of the last three years since I’ve been doing this music thing. Often you will hear me talk about Brennen Leigh, my best friend in the world. I met her at a show I was doing where her boyfriend was on the bill with us. Anyway, I was starving and I see this chick across the bar that had just gotten a pizza delivered. So my hunger walked me over there and asked for a piece. She and I have been inseparable since then. All these friends “get” what I’m doing musically. Most of them are country singers and play in bars like I do. It’s not that I don’t wanna hang out with other people, it’s just that I have so much in common with these people that like and enjoy the same things I enjoy (hence, the friendship).

I often wondered there for a while what was wrong with me because I didn’t wanna branch out with what I listened to. I kept getting the old “Girl, don’t you listen to ANYTHING besides old country?” Well, the answer is, “NO, I DON’T” … until recently. This Adam Hood guy hit me like a brick. His voice is seriously sexy and he’s a hell of a songwriter. He has a song called “Varnado” about a little town that he has to go to and leave his girl. It is catchy, catchy, catchy, catchy. Don’t be surprised if you start hearing me singing it at my shows. But my point is this: IT’S NOT OLD-SCHOOL COUNTRY! (You can pat me on the back anytime now - HA!) But it’s very Delbert. You know that song “Two More Bottles of Wine” that Emmylou sings? It’s along those veins. I actually don’t know what kind of music it is or what it should be labeled but I like it. If this guy isn’t the next big star, there is something wrong with this picture.

He’s got music myspace.com/adamhood and adamhood.com. Pete Anderson, who produced all those classic Dwight Yoakam records, produced Adam’s new CD. It’s amazing!
