Dolly Parton’s Angelic Video
I remember the first time I saw her. I was just a little girl watching television with my mother when I became instantly captivated by this presence in front of me. She was wearing a long white sequined dress and had the most beautiful voice I’d ever heard. I looked up from the screen and said, “Mommy, is she an angel?” Finding this rather comical, my mother chuckled back, “Oh no hunny, that’s Dolly Parton.” To this day, I still get that same feeling each time I see her video, “Eagle When She Flies.”
The strong women that make up this video are not limited to images of Mother Teresa, Amelia Earhart or Oprah Winfrey, but also women like me, women like you. “She hurts deep and when she weeps / She’s just as fragile as a child / And she’s a sparrow when she’s broken / But she’s an eagle when she flies.” None of us are angels, including Dolly Parton, and at times we may seem more like an ordinary sparrow. Yet every woman, though weak at times, can still be as strong as an eagle.

Whitney, Dolly is an inspiration to all of us. The video you reviewed is wonderful. I didn’t realize that there was a video with this song. Women have made a huge impact on our society and this is exactly what Dolly is singing about. You have brought a new light to this song. Great Job!

What a beautiful video! I had never seen this video before but it is amazing. I love that like you with your childhood story, we can all relate to Dolly’s song and message. This was a great way to start your CMT blogs!

Whitney,
This is a great perspective on the Dolly video. She sings like an angel and her voice soars like an eagle. I think it’s great that you went back and reminded us about such a powerful and moving song. Great job.

There is no one in this world quite like her. She is pretty close to a true angel in voice, deed and beauty in and out (with just a couple of horns thrown in to remind us she’s got a little devil in her too!)
